Mother
My mother you were always there for me.
Giving advice, always listening I remember very fondly.
When my heart was filled with saddness and hurt.
You gave me a hug and I felt your comfort.
When I was in trouble in many different ways.
The reasons of punishment you tried to convey.
I would rebel and wouldn't listen..
It caused unhappiness and a lot of friction.
You always gave of yourself to others that needed you.
Above your own feelings you gave through and through.
Mother what I am trying to say is I love you and your inner beauty.
You will always be in my heart here and in Heaven eternally.
Rarely have I made a resolution at the strike of twelve
Even if I should a resolution rarely does me good
So instead of resolutions at the start of each New Year
Only to have broken them before the sunset fades I fear
Living, loving life each day is what I strive for, that’s for sure
Unhappiness can bring you down, so smile don’t ever show a frown
To share this with my fellow man through actions I'll do all I can
If only homo-sapiens would stop and take a look they'd see
Our planet has such beauty though not many lift their eyes like me
Nature is the gift we have ~ so cherish and enjoy it
Sadly through our carelessness our actions could destroy it

HONORABLE MENTION
Music is space between vibrations.
Dance is space between movements.
Beauty is space between arts.
Time is space between transformations.
Life is space between souls.
Stillness is space between thoughts.
Humanity is space between integrities.
Wisdom is space between trial and error.
Mistakes well learned
Ego is space between must-win and always-right.
No room for kindness or compassion
Freedom is space between choices.
Stop saying “I have no choice”
Uncertainty is space between transitions.
Broken crystal ball
Blame is space between irresponsibility.
Including self-blame
Unhappiness is space between entitlements.
World owes you nothing
Silence is space between turbulence.
Fiercely muted
Belief is space between dreams.
Cargo of fulfillment
Stuff on my mind has been puzzling me
Like why have I been one of the lucky ones
When they were handing out the happy stuff
Was I at the head of the line
Was it my enthusiasm that made the difference
For most of my life I've been this fortunate dude
But for one exception the passing of my first wife
Who was such a loving soul
A truly unique lady with a heart of gold
She finally succumbed after a long battle
With that dreaded scourge breast cancer
But then I realized life goes on even though at the time
I really didn't care one way or the other
But the human spirit is very resilient
And we move on
Aside from that very sad time my life has been amazing
Laughter has always been key
There is so much unhappiness and tragedy in life
To survive we must take a “c'est la vie” attitude
I guess the bottom line to all of this is
Live for today and tomorrow will take care of itself
Now that surely makes sense to this old dude
Four little girls in second grade
Each carrying a backpack of pure unhappiness
Not willing to be friends on their own
So I started a friendship club
They had fun together
Until one pointed to another and said
I cannot get along with her
That’s too bad, I said. I guess you cannot be in the friendship club.
SHE CAN’T GET ALONG WITH ME EITHER!
She did not say that, I told her. We will miss you.
No, I think I can get along with her, she said.
I rolled my eyes silently, inside my head where she could not see me.
Girls choose to like or not like at an early age.
No rhyme or reason to it.
A box of crayons new and ready waits
to block the yelling sounds outside the door.
The dreams a hundred color box creates
erase those sounds while I draw on the floor.
The shouting disappears, replaced by peace
when I draw a new dress for my poor doll.
Carefully, I choose a hue of cerise.
She'll feel so much better after her fall,
but I won't use dark red that makes me think
about dreadful unhappiness and fears,
when my dad has had way too much to drink.
I'm six and I have cried too many tears.
It's all these colors that give life to dreams
that drown out all the scary shouts and screams.
Its a long while since I've been
Wearing a very happy grin
I can not even believe
You would ever really leave
We were going to grow old
Together we would always hold
One another many years
Without sorrow or sad tears
Sweet times were supposed to be
Part of our whole destiny
No unhappiness for us
We'd never argue fight or fuss
Living without fear or pain
Every day we would begin
The same way with no regret
We would never have to fret
Anything would bring us loss
We would never turn and toss
At night snuggled in our bed
Sweet dreams running in our head
But those dreams have brought me fear
I'm now living a nightmare
Since the day blood tests showed
All our dreams of turning old
together is now no more
My hearts shattered on the floor
Into pieces I can't mend
Ever since heaven has sent
Angels down to take you home
Leaving me hurt and alone
The doctors couldn't find a cure
To save my love so sweet and pure
Now your in a better place
No more pain shown on your face
All I can do now is look
Up to the sky hoping to book
A ride soon to see my love
Who is waiting up above
Your love cuts through me, this power controlling me is surreal
not realizing the buttons you push, and how you make me feel
an inner beauty unmarred, like a magnet, you drew me so close
mere sight of you was my healing, like vitamin C, my double dose
Take my hand and I'll show you, a world where you've never been
it is a perfect world, a world no one has ever seen, absent of sin
eyes to glimpse pure angels of light, as bright as the sun at midday
above space and beyond time, where unhappiness has no sway
Then I awoke and came to find, behold, it has all been but a dream
misled thinking we were in that realm, the realm of the supreme
reminded once again, with a heavy heart, that to love it takes two
but all I have found is a temporary escape, a lost love I once knew
remembering the tenderness of your voice, fond memories I did recall
running barefoot that night, hand in hand, with your rain soaked shawl
as the sun rose it revealed the beauty in your eyes, and then I could see
how captivated I was by your smile, waiting for your lips to set me free
I'm a prisoner of your love, a love that has me bound, it was meant to be
trying to free myself, chained by this sole desire, if you would now see
a chance to pledge my love, a love that only now made me understand
a way to become your soul partner, and enabling me to finally withstand
Release me from the confines of a lonely heart, and let those memories renew
days of the past give new life and meaning, with my love, for no one but you
so let the stars and moon be witnesses, for this pact that we will now forever make
and then once again I will close my eyes and dream, my love to never again forsake

A cousin and a friend both lived to witness an unpleasant surprise.
They loved life but wanted their money to live longer than them.
My cousin hit the jackpot in gambling and decided to delay
or avoid paying the income tax thinking that he would be
Dead before the IRS discovered his plan. Well, he was surprised
When he realized that he was blessed with longevity that allowed him to live longer than his winnings. His luck and his fortune ran Out, resulting in him paying the tax.
My friend acquired wealth over time but ran short on money as his
Life was being blessed with longevity. Standing alone one day and
Looking sad, I inquired of the source of his unhappiness whereupon
He informed me that he was living too long because his money was
Running out. I concluded that he would rather be dead than poor.
I also concluded that Life is indeed a splendor thing, but it can also be
A very surprising thing as attested by my cousin and my friend.
