Just me and my granddaughters, two sweet cute tweens
eating up pizza. It’s “No-night” for greens!
I tell them old stories about family.
Their own funny stories they tell back to me.
They’ve brought a nail file. One files my nails
while I tell more stories with juicy details!
We play on the internet for a short while
then chat about things like our favorite hair style.
It’s now after ten, but tonight is for fun.
No going to bed till well after one!
We pick out a series on Netflix to watch.
At last we discover one that is top-notch.
I with my popcorn and they with ice-cream -
we’re living it up while living the dream!

“Hamilton’s” the show to watch
On Independence Day.
If you’ve not seen it, find out if
You can concoct a way.
On Broadway, it was magical –
No one would disagree –
But what appealed to me the most
Was, oh, the poetry!
The acting, music, costumes, sets
Were all top-notch, indeed,
Yet all those rhyming lyrics must be
Brilliant to succeed.
And that they are! Rewatching, I
Remembered the advice –
Have by your side the written words,
On paper or device.
Or memorize them, like my son,
So you’ll appreciate
The fact that they are super-mega-
Ultra flat-out great!
July the 4th ‘s for barbecue
And fireworks and such.
Still, if you can, catch “Hamilton” –
You’ll like it oh, so much!
Fast as an atomic banshee, he roils sacred halls
of White House clutches levers with brass balls
American powers remain unrestrained when he calls
Armada to exorcise imagine aery dragons,
he inarticulately falls
non-communicative, faux eruditely generative,
and heartily galls
toward this introspective kickstarter male,
and most likely others he appalls.

My inner guru hankers to share voice
amidst increasing din
and clamors in reaction to insidious machinations fin
hushed via Machiavellian offal prince,
who unleashes clout with Cheshire grin
unconcerned about population, chaste,
from their wells Fargo wing.

Most every citizen banker, and kin
stared down vis a vis fierce-some intimations
catapult escalating, spin
laughing at rigged voting outlook
gratefully inflicts populace with monstrous win
doomsday soldiers -
art of the deal book not writ by said urchin.

Though regularly affiliated with top notch
kudos to virtual soapbox platform
re: all poetry to express Bing averse
toward ill feted Barron settlement
of United States government tossed like scotch
on thar hocks, thus an uneasy angst
also invisibly grabs me by the crotch
cuz das Trump power monger,
I fear rubric of democracy, he will botch!

This poem alternately titled -
harbinger of political debacle wolf find antipode
where toxic brew at crack of 12 a.m.
January 20th 2017 doth bode
doctored pregnant swollen tidal anarchistic military toad
deeds sheepishly shape into battalions
in tandem - fraternal order of police erode
Civilian protesters unite with ordinary citizen bankers
crowdsource sing metallic ca clash to goad

I've poured over books of science
Studied hard the ancient arts
Even spoke with bearded Guru's
On the peak of mountain tops
Taken classes from learned professors
At top notch universities
But if Jesus isn't brought up
What good are they to me
I've rubbed elbows with Hollywood Stars
As they've rehearsed their lines
Had discussions with dignitaries
With Presidents I've wined and dined
I have watched the worlds top athletes
Some of whom I'm their biggest fan
But if Jesus isn't in the process
It doesn't make any sense
I've seen a man walk on the moon
Plant a flag beneath the stars
Heard men give the greatest speeches
Watched men drive the fastest cars
You could say I've about done it all
And in that you would be right
But without Jesus in the mix
There's not much good to life

No more am I your sweet little girl...
I am far past, brown braids and curls.
No shopping now for dolls and toys,
Remember when I first liked boys?
You drove me to and from school each day.
It was not close but a distance away.
You made sure my Mary Janes were clean.
I wear gold ones now, that happily gleam.
Daddy, you sent me to top schools only.
I learned God’s law, to never be phony.
You taught me top notch manners ,too.
We had raucous fun at Brookfield Zoo.
You also presented me as a debutante.
In your tails, Daddy you were so gallant!
In long sequined gown, and white gloves.
You and I waltzed as most graceful doves.
You later, fell in love with my baby girl.
Cradling her in your arms. like a precious pearl.
Your grandson, Edward, you never met.
But he is named after, you, true kismet.
My friends and I you treated like petite queens.
Presents were a welcomed, year-round happening.
And now, Daddy, I find myself as old as you.
But ‘tis not a thing that I rue but just verily true.
I will drive to meet you at the Pearly Gates.
In your gift, the red convertible, what a fate!
A girl could not have had a better Dad!
One who loved her, with all in his heart, he had.
Merrty Christmas, Daddy, you raised me ridgt.
I wish I were in you lap, this very, wintry night!
This is a different time, a new season
These days, crimes seem to pay
For a multitude of obvious reasons
As we all know by now, this is another day
Full of surprises, felons don’t go to prisons
They have top-notch official protection
Twenty four hours a day, this is truly insane
It won’t be easy for the prosecutor to nail
This perpetrator who is as slick as a sultry snail
He knows how to accelerate like a thief in the fast lane
The prosecutor has his work cut out for him. Gender
Does not matter, since justice has no boundaries
We simply have to watch carefully the technicalities
Stand by to follow the next move or the next procedure
This is a new season; this is obviously a different time
Let’s wait and see what happens in primetime; a crime
Is taking place somewhere. I hope that the criminal is caught
Red-handed in the jelly jar. This dude has done plenty, a lot
Of transgressions to sail him off to jail for the rest of his life
All the evidence suggests he’s guilty. We hope that his wife
Will appear in court this time. Prosecutors don’t lose easily
Let’s stay tuned for another episode, another day of comedy.

A tiny yellow capsule
A powder, if you will
Syrup in a bottle
A perforated pill
But this is all a dream
This pill isn't real
like a jumping bean
Perform, it never will
But if it did exist
I would keep steady hands
Remain focused
Remember dates and plans
I would be in control
On the top of my game
Always on a roll
Feeding my brain
A top notch problem solver
Climbing the ladder
An equation dissolver
Blocking out the chatter
Motivated patience
To undivide my attention
Function by a list
And not forget to mention
Wake me up on time
To my alarm clock ringing
I wouldn't get behind
From excessive dreaming
I would live for the moment
Finally, I would thrive
I'd take my life and own it
And, for once, I'd feel alive
In all parts of the world your greatness dwelt,
In all your speeches great wisdom is felt,
Your intelligence is just top-notch
Your haters are subdued under your watch.
Your good deeds are just extremely unique,
You have abundance of what others seek,
Your goodness open you doors of favours,
God's blessings, your life easily savours,
Your smiles send warmth to comfort troubled hearts,
Your beauty sits well on top of the charts
Your well shaped body is one of a kind,
Your friendship stays pure for long in the mind.
Your work is well rewarded with success,
God's favours shine in your life beyond guess,
Hence, God's blessings in your life is plenty,
And God's glory on your life is many.
And suddenly I realized I was the small fish in the wide sea
Nobody knew what I achieved
Yeah I was among the ones who shone bright
Rather I was among the group
As their individuality got recognized I got pushed aside
I thought I was top notch
But maybe I was the invisible nerd
The one who worked hard
The one who got good grades
The one who always took part
But I lacked the essence the society needs
The pretty privilege give to those beauties
Oh look she's the beauty with brain
But when my turn came oh look at that nerd who doesn't enjoy her life
I tried my whole life to get recognized
But instead I was just pushed aside
Maybe I was desperate but at least I didn't flirt
Always got attention from the wrong people
As I saw them earn the things I longed to achieve
My heart shattered like scattered bees
Was it my wish to get recognized that kept me from achieving it?
Was it my face that wasn't ugly but not pretty enough?
Or was it my lame personality?
But I also watched those famous movies
I also listened to those popular beats
I was also gifted with a big brain
I also did not study everyday
I also worked hard
I also dreamed
I also earned to be
Just a little recognition was all I need
Because I also know how to feel
I was like the actuator who served a purpose but was always unseen
However even the actuator got seen
The truth was nobody ever asked what I wanted to be
And soon it all collapsed in the search off recognition I lost my talent
Running around like a thirsty frog
Just trying to grab attention
But oh it didn't end like that
Reality did hit me hard
But it hit when I got torn apart
When I lost what I only had
When all my emotions just faded away
When all the birds flew away
And tick tock tick tock
As I looked up stood over me a monster
The monster who turned my into another monster
Oh how neglect made me an attention hungry monster
Chemistry, a labyrinthine topic-cum-tantalising potent cryptic art,
bane of eager scientist with half a top-notch mind and ample heart
Teachers in this field strain every muscle but knowledge has its
phoenix like bugs.
bungled shots at mastery whet an inborn urge for random hugs
At twenty two a third year paper found me in this vicious circle dumbstruck,
my blank expression shook with disbelief as I sought a golden wink from Lady Luck
Nervous giggles, comic errors, bold retrieval seldom count as fun,
but never fear, triumphant marks, percentage wise a glowing grade A one!
