Premium Member Mind Versus Heart

My mind and heart will never be friends.
Sworn enemies, they wrestle and box
for control of me, the battle never ends
like the tick tocking pendulums of clocks

I ask my mind when it keeps me awake,
"Tell me, what do you think I should do?"
It growls and huffs, "Oh, for goodness' sake.
If you heed your heart, it will lead you askew!"

It went on to tell me to slow down to a crawl,
and I shouldn't hurry to make a quick decision.
It compared me to Humpty Dumpty on the wall,
headed for a fall and on course for a collision.

I'm weary of refereeing their constant scuffle,
especially when it concerns falling in love or not.
I keep smoothing the crumpled feathers they ruffle.
When they argue I'm the one put on the hot spot!

When I ask my heart, " Will you lead me astray?"
I can feel it ache as though it's crying deep inside.
It replied, "My emotions are not easy to convey,
but from love's fervor you should not choose to hide.

Falling in love is a risk and a big decision to make.
Your mind may be a sage with words and thought,
but there's much to lose if real affection you forsake.
No mind can feel the love that lives in your heart."

An unresolved dilemma, so I petitioned my soul,
but it remained mute, mind nor heart did it refute.
"Which one of you should I trust with control?"
That became the cornerstone for another dispute.

Mind: "Heart, I knew to your whim she'd concede."
Heart: "She chose to love and fulfill her great need."

Bracing For Angels

Aways beaming our light like a flashlight in the dark we are like the angels
of heaven, always keeping pace with slow steady light.
We are a beam, a new born child, and we long to reunite with our creator,
and his great vision and truth. (breathe)
We cling to the stars and rock like a luminous basket of effervescent beauty.
We hug the moon and glow with it as if it were a floating device
taking us over mountains and boulders. (breathe)
Place your weary head on a puffy cloud and listen to the soft
sound of the wind as it whistles through the trees asking permission
to ruffle the leaves and run through your eaves.
We are the light of the world, and we hunger for more knowledge
mostly we hunger for sincerity of spirit and true relationship
with each other. (breathe)
We live with an open heart and hungry soul. Always searching for
true communion with ourselves and other.
Whether we believe in one God or many, we are just beginning
To embrace the universe as one.
We know that we are truly home when we can feel the love
We create in our hearts for others. (breathe)

NAMASTE, PEACE BE WITH YOU.

Glad God Showed Favor

I'm thankful and I'm just grateful that
God found favor in me
See for a while seem like the
Demands controlled me
Had to walk the the dark in order
To get back into the light
Everyone has to take their on journey
To find out what's best for them in
Life
What works for you might not work for
Me
But one things sure nothing in the world is free
Once was in love with the root of all evil money
Just recently thought about and maybe figured out
That's why I had so many demands
It's probably not unusual for someone doing so much evil
Example went to school together played on the same team
Just because we don't wear the same color we at war with each other
I understand the black lives matter movement but that only
For others killing brother's
But what about the last twenty years of brothers killing brothers
Worried about another race hating us
But the truth is we hate each other in the struggle
Not trying to ruffle any feathers
And if I did I apologize
See I'm just glad god showed me favor
Had so many demands had no choice but to call on the
Savior

A constant race to keep each other in the struggle

Tagore Translation: Come As You Are

Come As You Are
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Come as you are, forget appearances!
Is your hair untamable, your part uneven, your bodice unfastened? Never mind.
Come as you are, forget appearances!

Skip with quicksilver steps across the grass.
If your feet glisten with dew, if your anklets slip, if your beaded necklace slides off? Never mind.
Skip with quicksilver steps across the grass.

Do you see the clouds enveloping the sky?
Flocks of cranes erupt from the riverbank, fitful gusts ruffle the fields, anxious cattle tremble in their stalls.
Do you see the clouds enveloping the sky?

You loiter in vain over your toilet lamp; it flickers and dies in the wind.
Who will care that your eyelids have not been painted with lamp-black, when your pupils are darker than thunderstorms?
You loiter in vain over your toilet lamp; it flickers and dies in the wind.

Come as you are, forget appearances!
If the wreath lies unwoven, who cares? If the bracelet is unfastened, let it fall. The sky grows dark; it is late.
Come as you are, forget appearances!

Only Let Me Love You
by Michael R. Burch

after Rabindranath Tagore

Only let me love you, and the pain
of living will be easier to bear.
Only let me love you. Nay, refrain
from pinning up your hair!

Only let me love you. Stay, remain.
A face so lovely never needs repair!
Only let me love you to the strains
of Rabindranath on a soft sitar.

Only let me love you, while the rain
makes music: gentle, eloquent, sincere.
Only let me love you. Don’t complain
you need more time to make yourself more fair!

Only let me love you. Stay, remain.
No need for rouge or lipstick! Only share
your tender body swiftly ...

Maybe It Is Nonsense

My thoughts seek companionship in substance
Substance of the five senses, yes
But mostly of conscience

Isn’t it torture to go on and on, days across
Pasting social norms over truth
Constantly barely pulling order out of chaos

Can we be serious and real
Or is it just me, or circumstance
To want to not try to feel
Fake

I witness so many shallow laughs
Thinking, save your breath, what’s so funny
Your miraculous brain isn’t such a dummy

I struggle to gasp
When the situation calls for it
but really I’m stronger and would need more of a rasp

Don’t want to seem numbed and awkward
But lately thinking it’s okay, even Zen
To not have to be another clucking hen,
trying for the “don’t ruffle my feathers” award

Joy Out of a Stone

You may not be able to get blood out of a stone,
But if you can remember back to your childhood,
Chances are you will know to get joy out of one.

Remember the different sound different stones brought,
As you listened expectantly for the plop,
While trying to keep just far enough away,
To avoid getting wet,
And getting on the wrong side of Mum,
Yet still managing a giggle if you or your playmate get surprised by a stone Making a bigger splash and an even bigger wet patch,
On a new suit clothes.

Remember too trying to count the ripples from the plonk of the stone,
To see if your stone got more ripples
Than your playmate got.

Or you may remember when you found a good patch of flat stones,
And skipped them across the water,
Which was more of a challenge,
Than just plonking or bombing,
With the most skips giving better bragging rights,
And something you could whisper to Dad about,
When Mum was out of the room,
You have even enticed Mum to join in when camping by the river,
If the rest of the family were all skimming stones together

If you have not forgotten the simple joys from simple toys,
Chances are your credit card will be free of blood,
And reading the balance owing in the new year,
Should not ruffle any feathers,
Or disturb the sounds of joy that is abundant within the household.

Oh how I wish I didn't suffer from temporary amnesia,
But thank god it is only temporary,
And I have not lost my common sense.

Premium Member The Not so Great Debate

We had a debate where the candidate
Was supposed to communicate
The direction in which the united state
Yes, state how we can become back united
Yet however, more lies than truth were cited
Remove the blindfold so you can see
All that is hidden under the oval tree
There were lies told with little truth to unfold
Low and behold, they both awkward and old

But how can we relate
When the great grandfathers are not so great
Trying to tear each other down when both have flaws
Yes we definitely need changes, time to change these laws
Will an age limit make a difference in the performance, I guess
But right now we are dealing with one big, hot mess

The country is doomed, or so I assume
But what are we to do when our only choices are these two
It’s like the blind leading the blind
When the ages combined together is one hundred fifty nine

Oh what a truffle, this country we ruffle
Sounded like an old bickering married couple
Doesn't say a lot if this all we got

It’s like we have to decide who we gon marry
Cause on their back, this country they carry
Because when we vote, we are saying, “I do”
Meaning, you do believe in your choice
Yet by not voting, are you silencing your voice?

Dear God,
We have a problem!

Cat Love ©

Don't ruffle my fur that direction! I've got it looking just the way I want.

I love you but I'm very busy today.

Don't move, this is my lap time and I'm very comfy.

Scratch right there, no a little more to the left, a little higher, to the right.

Look what I've brought you--isn't it beautiful? I killed it in the garden.

That's what we're having for dinner?

You need to work on how you pick your friends. I don't like that one and besides he had the nerve to sit in my chair!

I could find a better human, you know, if I put in some effort….
But I guess you'll do…for now.

Dog Love

Pet me, pet me, pet me! Oh boy! A butt rub!

I love you to the ends of the earth and beyond!

I'll just lay here quietly, I won't bother you, as long as I can touch you.

Throw the ball! Throw the ball! Again! Again!

I love my dinner, you're such a good mommy!
'Walkie', 'go outside', 'go for a walk', 'let's go pee-pee'. Yippee! Where's my leash?

I love your friends. That one scratched my ears and told me I was a good dog.

You're home! You're home! Why were you gone so long….it doesn't matter now…You're home!

You're the best human ever….I love you!

Premium Member To My Darling

You are the sun, the moon, and the stars,
the very breath of the universe.
Everywhere I go,
the thought of you accompanies me.

The flame of the candle
the ruffle of the Springtime breeze,
the smell of the freshly cut flower--
Yes, they are wonderful, my darling,
  but you surpass them all.

O, Ecstasy!
When your gaze meets mine,
The angels of heaven sing in full-throated chorus,
The oceans give forth their mighty roar,
And the very Universe trembles in dumbstruck awe.

If ever you would leave me, my darling,
The sun would be blotted from the sky,
My world would collapse in upon itself,
Turning into a deadly black hole--
  I into a silence-singed dwarf star.

Premium Member Wind Lover

You kiss my face and I turn to trace
the tracks you left on the ground;
where have you walked and with whom have you talked
in all of your traveling round?

You utter a sigh and I am wondering why
you just cannot slow down and stay;
capricious you are like a burnt, falling star,
fickle, and quick to betray.

One day you are kind, your fury confined,
the next, you are hostile and wild;
today a soft breeze, lightly brushing the trees,
tomorrow, an unbroken child.

I open my arms to welcome your charms,
but like a ghost you vanish and go;
my emotions are torn by the strength of your storm,
your inexhaustible, volatile show.

I release you! Go scream and follow mad dreams,
go blow to the east and the west;
you try to impress then insanely digress
your plan to pursue an irrational quest.

The day you are through, tame the tempestuous shrew,
come back to my warm, loving heart;
ruffle my hair with the breath of a prayer,
until them, my dear, just depart.
