Metaverse Crush

Through your avatar I knew how you would look
Time has taken the memories from our created book
As long as it's been - from where we began
I wish we would've kept together like gamers we always did
Lost as a child - and slowly losing resilience
Not a millisecond where I regret your metaverse existence
As kids we had big plans - my super•duper•best•friend•man
My hacker, my Tron, my metaverse crush, king of the clan - as well as each other's age
You'd always be my diary on the other side of this digitized page
My pen-pal from forever, my should•not•have•been•ex-lover, my best friend, my solitude, & my peace
Forever I was in your metaverse, and you in mine
But I didn't think much of that at the time
My metaverse crush would always be there & caught my pixelated tears before they'd even fall
Finally years later I reached out to my metaverse crush
Upon seeing you, the memories flooded back with a rush
All of a sudden, it then occurred to me -
It was still only you I could trust
They arose & surged through my veins
I've finally put your face to a name
So ever so often I would write a page in the diary of us
While most of our childhood memories were lost in the dust
A breath of fresh air, a non-judgmental affair
A normal dude there & a witch over here
From two separate sides of this corrupt country we're in
I'm just devastated that it ended before it really began
Still in my fading memories I see that even then you wanted to believe
Pouring into our memories, I'd cry, I'd sweat, & I'd bleed
'Cause this metaverse crush - turned real life - in my heart
I don't think at the time we even gave it long enough to see...

The Old Old-West Town

Weeds and grass grow in the cracks
of sun-faded, crumbling pavement,
a parking lot that once was full
of stressed parents and cowboys nascent.
A grand sign over the entry
now is rotted two-thirds away,
this old piece of my childhood
truly has seen better days.

It was an old-west town once,
where we learned of the frontier,
now the totem pole is fallen down,
brings to my eye a sad tear.
The old Indian village, long gone,
is now just some concrete pads,
not the grand teepees I explored
back when I was just a lad.

The cavalry fort once rose proud,
a solid wall of rough-hewn logs,
now one rampart remains, broken,
sinking into a nearby bog.
It’s old flagpole still stands tall,
but Old Glory no longer flutters,
trash and graffiti lie about,
the whole place looks like a gutter.

And up at the bank where long ago
the ‘bandits’ always struck ad two,
I can recall how kids with cap guns
always ‘made’ them drop their loot.
Nearby is the big stable
where families could take trial rides,
the roof is gone, it’s been ten years
since any horse was inside.

Finally I see the arena
where rodeo riders ran wild,
wrestling steers, breaking a bronc,
clinging to a bull with style.
The old stands are half-collapsed,
the corral is full of small trees,
hard to believe it ever enrapt
young children in such revelry.

Some say it was P.C. parents
afraid of imaginary strife,
some say the Hollywood now
can’t make a western to save their life.
Others say that the owners died,
and their kids didn’t want to load,
whatever the reason, it was sad
the day the old-west town closed.

I hear that there are now big plans
to turn it all into a park,
a taxpayer-funded state debacle,
as such projects usually are.
They have their designs but we all
know what should really be done,
it should be rebuilt so that our kids
have a place to run ’round with cap guns.

Michell'e

Written By: D. Collins 8/24/12

I've witnessed what a strong, black woman should be.
The core root within the mesh of the family tree.
She puts stuff in perspective through an educated view.
Or, get down and dirty to turn the tide on you.
No one is allowed anywhere near her kids.
Try it! And, you will forever live in fear.
She's very sophisticated when she has to be.
And, also hands-on when bringing in the sheaves.

Achievements mean nothing although there are many.
If worse came to worse, she'd squeeze blood from a penny.
She wears the crown like it is supposed to be done.
Michell'e has qualities that stand second to none.
Anyone taking notice can see she's from a different breed.
The confidence she exudes just comes so naturally.
That's something embedded deep within her inner-core.
Which shows what we admire came a long, time before.

Premium Member Avoiding Peer Pressure

blazing hot like cayenne pepper,
especially in adolescent years,
malleable youths
bend and capitulate
to peer pressure;
grown folks take the bait, too.
it could be a simple
"try this like the rest of us cool kids!"
or just an effortless nudge of
"you're missing out!"
to descend
an impressionable youngster

down
          down
                     down

the rabbit hole
of insidious seduction.
the benefits of peer pressure are there,
though few and far between.
It's challenging for a lone hold-out
to resist the temptation
of wading in deep into
the muddy waters of coercion
when all his "cool kids" buddies
have crossed over
to the dark side.
no matter your relationship
with anyone forcing you to try
or do anything that goes against
your belief system,
your moral code, say no
if you feel even a tad uncomfortable!
refuse to go down
the primrose path of uncertainty.
don't allow yourself to be
handcuffed, or guilt-tripped
into walking down the road to regret.
It's best to abandon ship,
or better yet, don't board
if any proposition feels false.

Deja-Vu

I hear the ticking of the clock
I don’t know how much longer I can face this walk
I hear the sirens flaring in my ears
I look way back a couple of years
I see childhood faces of kids growing up
I see the first time ever I got my very own pup
I hear all the words kids used to tell me
I’m completely chained down without being free
I hear the evil laughs echoing in my ears
I see the frustration, pain, and fright from all these years
I slowly seep in this everlasting lie
I pray to roll over and just die
The footsteps they creep up and down the hall
While my disfigured body crumbles against the wall
The black and blue slowly climb over my face
Beaten alive by my very own race
Blacken tears crawl desperately down my cheeks
I feel like I haven’t slept for weeks
My soul’s been stolen and there’s nowhere to run
I can’t believe how I could have been so dumb
He’s in my face screaming as loud as his lungs allow
Wearing nothing around my body but a bloody bath towel
I listen to his degrading words echoing in my mind
I’ve gotten myself in this eternal bind
When he raised his hand the first time, I should have been gone
But he told me he’d change--I guess he was wrong
Almost four years now and I realize
If I stayed longer, I could have been dead or paralyzed
So I sit here and think about what happened then
I sit here and realize I finally did win
I got away alive and well
From my forsaken, stalking, hell
I’ve moved on now and I’m stronger
I’m glad this test wasn’t any longer
Surrounding myself with opened eyes
No more asking myself all the why’s
Understanding now that there were no intentions of change
So blind then--body derailed and deranged
Self-esteem still extremely low
But now I’ve experienced it and now I know
So almost four years later and sit and rethink
About the times when my pirate ship did sink
But I’m still not the only one
So many battered women under our sun
Every now and then the Deja-vu slips in
But I simply remember the one time I did win

Love Lives Simple

i may not have fame or gold, or have earthly riches that i could give,
i do not own a fancy home, and you may not prefer just where i live,
you set your standards high on what your earthly eyes can see,
while in the comfort of my little shack, my father still meets me,
the storage of my riches lives within my heart,
and what i have with him no one can take, it's impossible to tear us apart,
while your putting judgements on every person that walks in your direction,
you had better take a closer look at yourself, and what your heart may be rejecting,
i'm tired of the judgements that swarm, my small and simple life,
the remarks and comments to make me feel less important, cause me pain and
strife,
when all the people fade away, and i'm sitting all alone,
my god reminds me how rich i am in the comfort of my own home,
my nights consist of laundry and dishes, and all the children's books i've read,
from brushing teeth,, and giving baths, and then tucking my kids into bed,
after vacuuming rugs and picking up toys, and mopping all my hardwood floors,
i sit back on the couch when the house gets quiet, and then spend my time with
the lord,
the kisses and hugs, and the snuggles at night, that brighten my everyday,
how precious these moments, they come and they go, when we constintly want
them to stay,
i've come to see with most of the world it's all about what they can gain,
never putting others hearts or needs before theirs, even if it means putting others
through pain,
all the money in the world could never replace this love that's been given to me,
i would rather live a simple life of love worth more than all the money the world
could ever offer me,

My Words

So you want me to tell you my story
it's a long one, you'd better take a seat
It's not meant for all ears and hearts
Bad people are who you are going to meet

I had a rough time of it growing up
I write about it quite a bit
I feel it helps me to heal and grow
And when I write it's a place where I fit

Let me tell you some bad thing happened
things you could not think up in your head
these things were conjured by very sick people
I can write of it now that they are dead

I've always felt obligated to keep it secret
I'm not sure why but it was a fact
Like they knew I would and didn't worry
about me spilling the beans on their act

My parents were the monsters in this story
they said they loved me but that was a lie
They hurt me over and over again
It never even occured to me to ask them why

It was every kind of abuse you've heard of
and a couple more that you'll never have to know
When I say it out loud I get sick inside myself
you can't see the scars, they don't show

I didn't get to learn as most kids do
I didn't get the luxury of play
I figured a new way to survive and heal
As I barely made it from day to day

They liked to cause me the utmost pain
and suffering that they could possibly do
I was an infant when all of it started
stopping only when a neighbor in my teens somehow knew

My parents were very prominent people
we were rich by anyone's view
I wanted for nothing but regular things
like love, attention and stability to name a few

Life went along as it usually does
I learned the hard way to say the least
I didn't have a childhood to draw from
and inside my head was a beast

My personality split into dozens back then
and whittled down through the years
To where now there's on only me and two others
One for anger, me for life and one for tears.

I've bared a lot in these words I've wrote
I hope you can make sense of them
My only hope is to help someone
and maybe from here healing will stem

Prisoner

Prisoner

Please do not look at me
Do not wipe away my tears
I am so pathetic
Tied and chained
Held as a pet by man
But, I am not a pet
I am a father
Two kids and a mate
Now, they are just a memory
Living in a forest so far away
We climbed and swung together
Ran across the jungle floor
We are always together
We were always a family
I was born to live free
In the world where God placed me
Others are still being trapped
Sold and traded as pets
Slaves to men who really don’t care
Tortured and chained for amusement
Someday someone will learn
They will free us
We will be allowed once again
To live, play and raise our young
The way we were meant to

Premium Member Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas- we heard not a peep
for our three little kids were in bed fast asleep.
We looked up at each other and knew it was time
to wrap bundles of gifts before midnight's last chime.

We then stacked all the paper and bows tucked away
and the presents for them we bought for Christmas day;
made ourselves nice and comfy on our playroom floor-
but then, all of a sudden- a knock at the door!

Running fast to the window, there was no one there-
just some branches from limbs that fell down in the air.
The wind fiercely sped up with a storm coming through;
At once, all the street lights disappeared from our view!

Now, our whole house turned dark- no lit tree to be seen.
This big power shutdown was bad news- unforeseen.
Our tall stack of nice presents still waiting for wrap;
Perhaps lanterns with candles could help fill the gap.

And yet, try as we may, wrapping presents? Not good!
Scotch tape's missing from the shelf where it always stood.
With these presents so large, it was needed for sure;
there is no other way to keep wrapping, secure.

Closed our eyes and we thought- what else now could we do?
We're so tired, we can't see, now without scotch tape too!
"Oh, I got it, I said, a new no-wrap technique!
In dark nooks plant these gifts- we can play hide and seek!"

Premium Member After I am Gone

When I am gone my house will lose her color.
kids will back up a huge dumpster and let anyone “have at it”.
Main goal will be to sell the house.
They will not mess around with the contents.

Maybe they will take one painting each.
There are over a thousand paintings, painted by me.
My grandchildren will not have a choice if they are little.
The paintings will probably go into a burn pile.

I picture myself watching from a high seat in an oak tree.
Fascinated that my children wanted nothing of mine.
I cannot help wondering if they will stumble upon my poems.
They have never read a single poem of mine.

Will they eagerly devour my poems upon my demise?
Should I be putting sound to my poems?
Would that be creepy? Or a comfort?
I do not plan to be gone long. I plan to haunt my kin.
