Premium Member The Alphabet Game

As we prepare to leave the mountains…I admit…I have no shame
for I’ve also been preparing…to play the alphabet game.

It’s a game we’ve played since our children were little…
on our trips from the mountains to the sea…
One person names something we’ve done that starts with the letter A…
and we keep going until we reach the letter Z.

It’s a wonderful family game…as anyone whose ever played it knows
and to get an edge for when we leave tomorrow…Alphabet game…here goes.

Asheville, Arrow, Birds, Bonnie, Bryan, Cherokee, Deer, Elk, a Freeze
(You see by getting this head start…I’m going to win this game with ease).

Games played in the cabin on a picnic or on the porch in the afternoon.
Hikes, Indigenous, Jelly from Momma’s Boy, Killers of the Flower Moon.

Leaves of many colors, the Moon, the Mountains,
Nantahala, the Oconaluftee River all aglow
Poplar trees, a Quart of cider, Raccoons,
a Steam engine, playing in the Snow..

Turkeys in the yard, Umbrella’s in the rain, Vegan fest
Waterrock Knob with sunsets that astound
X…a letter we ignore….Yellow colors all all around.

Z is another letter that is difficult but I have this one in the bag…
in the mountains we traveled on many roads with curves that zig and zag.

There you have it I am ready for out 2 day trip back home…
I only hope that Deborah…doesn’t take the time to read this poem.

(Of course there are no winners or losers…that is just a myth…
The real treasure of this game….is having someone to play it with.)

The Rugged Rocky Robertson Hill : 2012

Looking skywards, the Alsatian’s eyes glinted for a split second, connecting to a piercing sun ray.
The ray beamed onto dried semen ammonia. Hot dog breath puffed from his nostrils, onto my bare arm.
He sprung next to a sweating succulent, where a tiny kruisbessie leaf quivered human sperm cell display, in a whimpering breeze.
This was a filigree second, in a day of twenty-four hours times twenty-four hours.

Next the Alsatian’s back muscles rippled.
Coarsely-soft black-brown hair along his spine needled up. Four other police dogs whelped in frenzy. He gave a whip snort-sniff, then one sharp bark of achievement.
Wolf ancestry pupils dilated, penetrating that of his handler.

Time, matrixed into bruised, scratched body was a figment, my cells metabolising light and raw earth like the fragrant koppie bushes. Detective voices sliding sediment rock were parachutes opening, falling, dissipating __the helicopter an incessant mozzie.*

“Hy’t dit gekry.” **

The Alsatian with his helper dogs found the evidence of a brutal ripping of my young teen daughter’s virginity, by an impoverished farm worker, on a rugged hill in the Little Karoo.
THE ALL partnered with dogs for humans.

                    from my loins, a jewel
            God connected sun with earth
                    violence, a teacher

This lifetime’s moment is etched into my evolving DNA as experience. The power of seeing an Alsatian’s eyes connect in radar, with the heavenly Sun, directing him to dried semen on a delicate fynbos* leaf was astounding. Instant perception was one specific gift during great trauma. I chose this unrepeatable moment as it emerged from memory when I read the contest details.

No line was hard to write, though I shed a couple of stagnant tears.

I deleted how I was able to access the best sniffer dogs in the country, the Alsatian and his handler being flown in from another city. I deleted contextual details about the time.

*fynbos : fine sweet smelling bushes, some producing small flowers, indigenous to South Africa. Rocky koppies are often covered with them, making this type of hill challenging to climb.

A natural/spiritual,

develops a healthy cognitive/affective individual,

So too,
development of a metaphysical system,
is, through diverse seasons,
creative

whereby resilient networks of communication

Like a democratic intended constitution,

Any polyphonically resonant thought/felt system

Primal Beat

merciless genocide
     slaughter of native peoples
     wrought with (super) wanton zeal
feeble ability to thwart

     "discoverers" rapine wicked onslaught
     merely ratcheted wrecked webbing
wrenched tribal unity,
     violently rent asunder

     vibrant indigenous linkedin weave
rendered sacred weltanschauung
     decimated "noble savage"
     woke wretched nightmare,

     sans pock marked worsted weal
the Native American holocaust

tragedy trampled truces

scoped scattered remnant
     snuffed out via surveil
futile sympathetic remonstrances,

     viz rant and rail
hermetically sealed
     dirty deeds done dirt
     blunted, cheapened,

     and deadened

most definitely coloring faces

     American Indians deathly pale
into figurative coffin
     got hammered

subpar critical population mass
for survival, plus storied "red man"
     bereft of ample potent male
off limits to original proprietors

     forced to hightail
happy hunting grounds o'er hill and dale
becoming desiccated bleached bones
     devoid of awful, pitiful,

     and sorrowful fait accompli
and roaming spirits
     like banshees bewail
grievous shadow a blot doth cause me to ail!

Premium Member DID I PICK THE STONE

How many of us have been walking along the shore of a river, a stream or a lake
by ourself or with our partner, our son…our daughter…
and randomly picked up a stone…carried it for a while, took it home
or skipped it across the water.

If, as indigenous people believe, everything on Earth is connected…
every thing…one and all…
then perhaps you picking that particular stone…
wasn’t so random after all.

Perhaps there are time in nature…for reasons we’re not sure why
we feel more connected to the earth, the sea, the sky.

Perhaps there are times we are more attuned when out in nature walking
When we feel more attached to our surroundings..
when we can hear Mother Nature talking.

Perhaps what we think is a random stone…
actually is not!
What if that stone is telling us
he or she is tired of staying in one spot…

What if that particular stone wants us to understand….
It feels like going for a ride…or being held within our hand.

And if that stone asks to be skipped across the water…
if we listen…we just might
hear that skipping stone…squeal with delight.

So the next time you pick up a random stone…
remember this indigenous people’s philosophy…
and ask yourself…did I pick this stone…
or was this stone picking me.

Premium Member - Listen To The Wind -

~ The weather has many faces ~ whistling in the headwind ~ quote by poet

  Natural and repetitive elements
in the sound of the wind slow down restless thoughts
Observe the thoughts without judging or interpret
avoid depressive rumination just let go
A breath of wind touched your cheek so gently
Happiness is fleeting not a cliché
a lovely feeling, dancing as a whirlwind
The constant wind which makes the strings tinkle
It blows wherever it wants, strong or weak

The gentle wind reminds me of relaxing
pan flute music, sensitively without words
Indigenous music did not die out
it is carried by the wind all over the globe
Can neither be controlled, planned nor ordered
With invisible bows the wind carries away
Progress require you to loosen the moorings
The wind ruffles your hair and the waves sing
It's wonderful to feel the forces of nature
Listen carefully – it's full of presence

Premium Member Fight For Pandora

The mining company
Has confirmed of a place
Its in the Alpha Centauri
Deep out into space

Their provisional scouts
Miners and Geologists
Declare seams of Unobtanium
In a jungle greened mist

Expedition and workforce
With their military men
Set of to this planet
To mine this precious gem

The day arrives
As their equipment scores
Months now having passed
Leaving incredible sores

Their expansion of greed
On this planet so green
Turns the indigenous Na'vi
Against man and machine

With their ingenious science
Of Na'vi-human hybrid
They create avatars
Entering their mental state grid

Infiltrating this species
To gain them on their side
So that mans greed can prosper
Whilst another culture slides

The inevitability of conflict
Indigenous against modern man
Bows and arrows against bullets
The fighting has just began

This species on this far distant planet
Who are in tune with their natures surrounds
Watch on in horror as mans flying machines
Bring their Hometree to the ground

This stirs up this indigenous nation
To rise up against mans greed
With their harmony with nature
Unites all the planets breeds

The might of modern man
Has met their match this day
And sent them back where they came from
For once a planet saved from decay

THE PRESENT JUNETEENTH: A 2025 Juneteenth Flashback

Beginning with the celebration
Of our Juneteenth,
We prepare a new perspective
For the 4th of July:-
Though this nation now stands stalled
On the brink, she remains our nation
That she is also our nation too, there
Can be no lie!

What a uniqueness her oppressed people
Now share?
Two juxtaposed emancipation celebrations
Back-to-back:
Going from these times, only the future knows
To where:-
Oh what an interesting time it is for those of us
Born black,
And indigenous ones contemplating it all in utter
Amazement!
As for us, our eyes on the prize focus, must remain
In the present;
No more standing around in a sad dismayed whine:-
It’s celebration Time!

P.S.: Remember this, my Brothers and Sisters:-
               “…We may not be
	        Where we want to be;
                 We may not be
	        Where we ought to be;
	             We may not be
	          Where we gonna be;
	        But praise God! We ain’t
                Where we once were!”
