The Rugged Rocky Robertson Hill : 2012

Looking skywards, the Alsatian’s eyes glinted for a split second, connecting to a piercing sun ray.
The ray beamed onto dried semen ammonia. Hot dog breath puffed from his nostrils, onto my bare arm.
He sprung next to a sweating succulent, where a tiny kruisbessie leaf quivered human sperm cell display, in a whimpering breeze.
This was a filigree second, in a day of twenty-four hours times twenty-four hours.

Next the Alsatian’s back muscles rippled.
Coarsely-soft black-brown hair along his spine needled up. Four other police dogs whelped in frenzy. He gave a whip snort-sniff, then one sharp bark of achievement.
Wolf ancestry pupils dilated, penetrating that of his handler.

Time, matrixed into bruised, scratched body was a figment, my cells metabolising light and raw earth like the fragrant koppie bushes. Detective voices sliding sediment rock were parachutes opening, falling, dissipating __the helicopter an incessant mozzie.*

“Hy’t dit gekry.” **

The Alsatian with his helper dogs found the evidence of a brutal ripping of my young teen daughter’s virginity, by an impoverished farm worker, on a rugged hill in the Little Karoo.
THE ALL partnered with dogs for humans.

                    from my loins, a jewel
            God connected sun with earth
                    violence, a teacher

This lifetime’s moment is etched into my evolving DNA as experience. The power of seeing an Alsatian’s eyes connect in radar, with the heavenly Sun, directing him to dried semen on a delicate fynbos* leaf was astounding. Instant perception was one specific gift during great trauma. I chose this unrepeatable moment as it emerged from memory when I read the contest details.

No line was hard to write, though I shed a couple of stagnant tears.

I deleted how I was able to access the best sniffer dogs in the country, the Alsatian and his handler being flown in from another city. I deleted contextual details about the time.

*fynbos : fine sweet smelling bushes, some producing small flowers, indigenous to South Africa. Rocky koppies are often covered with them, making this type of hill challenging to climb.

I am so sorry for your daughter. God be with you both. I am amazed at the dogs' reactions, and how they knew like their own sixth sense. I said a little prayer for you and her. Love.

ThkU for your read & prayers, Paige. It happened some time ago, so we have healed at the conscious level. I missed your poems & presence. Trust you had a good break. Love vibes your way.

Gracious Ghairo, Your poem refuses abstraction and stands in raw exactitude—sun, leaf, ammonia, breath—nothing softened, nothing performed. The Alsatian’s gaze aligning with the sun felt almost liturgical: instinct becoming revelation, truth found through earth itself. Your restraint—choosing one filigree second over spectacle—gave it irreversible gravity. The closing triad consecrates without sentimentality; it trusts the reader to endure it. Verily so, methink, your poem deserved to be placed beyond mine. It carries a lived, unrepeatable weight that transcends competition.

Mohit, your comments are filled with love as are your poems. I’m happy to know that you see that spirituality must be grounded in Third Dimensional reality or it becomes farce. I have some way to go before my craft becomes as subtle as yours. Though subtlety depends very much on how sharp the mind is ~ this comes with meditative experience which I perceive you have more than me. It’s not so much about where we are placed by sponsors bound by allegiance to membership type, based on monetary investment to a site and the need to keep the algorithm’s ranking system in tact. It’s whether we accurately word what Pure Consciousness instructs us to articulate. Reading your offerings, I’m sure you know this. For this reason Lightworkers who use poetry to advance the cause of a New World Order need to post on other sites too. It seems to me this is a work imperative. Have a blessed day., Dear Poet.

This could be read a few times. Amazement at the dogs and handler, extreme sadness at your daughter’s rape. Too many…too many. Congrats on your win.

Powerful write, Ghairo. There is no excuse for sexual abuse or rape. This is wonderfully written! But, on the flip side, you have also brought out one of the most amazing abilities of dogs - to be loving detectives and true helpmates. I am so sorry your family went this this terrible ordeal. Know you remain in my prayers. Thank you for sharing this painful story. I wrote on child sexual abuse in my poem Seed of Fear. Blessings!

ThkU for read and comment, Sam. And for prayers. I appreciate. It happened some time ago, so on a conscious level, we have healed. It is one of the scourges our society has to grapple with ~ will have a look at Seed of Fear. Xx.

Quite common these days. I despise men who abuse young women. They leave indelible scars.
