Kansas Poem #4
Hey Hoss, slow down there!
No need to go so fast. Besides,
I don’t want to go
to where you’re going, and
I don’t want to be seen
to where you’re heading.
Hey Hoss, please turn this
furious black thing around!
Kindly get me the hell out of here
before it’s too late!
No, I don’t wish to see
this row of blighted Chinese elms and dead leaves.
Nor hear the badly-sung songs
of lost love and wild regret.
And, I refuse to see
the bloody scratches of truth and beauty,
so scrumptiously etched
with long blades on those splattered bricks;
Embedded there for the duration,
like the gum under your table;
Enmeshed there as the garnished gemstones
of the myriad fountains in Kansas City,
Polished with grit, staid tenacity, and
the time-shorn murders in the wheat lands,
underground in the broad basements
of purple smoke and black blood,
of silent stealth movements
under bending eaves, and a watching moon.
No Hoss!, I don’t want to go
to where you’re going.
Sorry, but we seem
ineffably lost and sadly wandering,
like a couple of dusty dudes
groveling for the keys that match nothing.
No, I don’t want to go
down that long Chinese lane. No!
Turn this furious thing around!
Here the people sit on long verandas and
watch the strangers come and go.
They might notice two dudes like us and
wonder what we’re doing there.
Sometimes I can hear
a loud shrieking funeral going by on Highway 50.
And those same people are staring
at the two caskets, and recognizing us inside!
Hey Hoss, slow down there!
No need to go so fast! Besides,
Time is not naïve, and Its retching Uncle
has left many a lover in the shuttered room,
up there on the 2nd floor,
has poured many a shimmering glass,
and licked many a teeming spoon.
Hey Hoss, ever take a morning break
at Hartman’s Café back in the day?
When the Clutters would drive by waving,
from inside their blue chevy impala, heading
to silent Garden City, and
the cold wind blowing unheard there.
If you drive this black furious thing
down that lane there,
you will see it.
It sits like an old cat in the sun,
going nowhere fast from its sealed post,
high upon these expansive wheat plains,
under this dark, brooding, blood-thirsty sun, and
an unforgiving watching moon.
The door to my hope
Is opening wide, alive with desire
A passion, a fire
The door to my faith
Is open to prayer, lasting praise
Worship that will amaze
The door to my love
Is open to affection, adoration
It will last the duration
The door to my grace
Is opening, a silent breath
It will grow beyond death
The door to my peace
Is open to serenity, quiet
It will never cause a riot
The door to my heart
Opens when you knock
It listens when you talk
The door to my soul
Opens wider when you show
It is a light, fully aglow
The door to my love
Opens from up above
Because you’re my one truelove
Open every door and know
You are dancing through my life
Comforting all worry and strife
With you, my darling
I know the door to my heart
Opens so we’ll never part

Being God's Pen
Written: by Tom Wright
2006
Thoughts Promenade inside my head
Absent of composition or direction,
As water dollops on a heated griddle.
I pass time exhuming notions
Thought long ago perished.
From night filled crevices of my mother wit,
I examine ideas whose propellant
is as monster bat wings darting to and fro.
Free flying, suddenly vanishing,
As if having been exiled from my psyche.
Their duration, analogous to griddle dollops;
Once vaporization has occurred,
I'm left to contemplate these mental aerobics,
In selfish tones, while examining my worthiness
As God's humble quill this day.
Conceivably, those concepts I've pursued,
Will birth in ink another time.
A time of God's convenience and choosing.
I Love You Endlessly
By Lori Steindorf August 6, 2026
I'll never condemn you
or put constraints on us
For I love you with all my heart,
soul and mind
We forget and forgive of past pain
And pray it won't well up again
We fight, we argue, we call each other out
But we emerge stronger
The Good Lord has always
guided us through troubling
times - there can never be a doubt.
Our family is interwoven intricately
We're built to withstand the test of time
Eternally - for eternity - like it or not, you're stuck with me.
Through space and time, I'm so grateful you're mine.
I love you unconditionally
I love you before, during and after
heartache, heartbreak and strife
Since the day I was born
for the duration of my life
even when times of duress -
Remember - we are blessed.
I abhor when I cause you grief or stress
For you afford me forever comfort and love
that'll never fade
You possess the power
to heal my heart after it breaks.
And ease my aching head
after making countless mistakes.
I'm firmly blessed.
I'm firmly blessed.
I'm firmly blessed.
For You Two.
I can't live without your boundless
love, energy and humor you infuse
in my world. Without you, I am lost
and lonely - stranded in the cold.
I know this - it's happened.
For you two - my dynamic duo -
are meaningful and everything to me.
Vital in all facets in life.
With you on my side
I can never be steered
in the wrong direction
I love you endlessly - ceaselessly - endlessly.
Continually craving your love and attention.
Itinerant mercenary shrouded with penitent robe
Shining beacon for terrorists around the globe
Hermetic curmudgeon; gun-toting xenophobe
Zealous provacateur who for ardent jihadists did probe
Material wealth a means; establishing a caliphate the end
Seeking Arab-royalty's, sovereign-sheikdoms to rend
Scourge of terror to blight all that western values defend
Sharia law to govern Middle East; Allah's dividend
Great Satan's engine to throttle
Region's fealty to bottle
Suicide pilots struck the monuments we coddle
Gratuitious shards and blood stains did the landscape mottle
President Bush promised swift revenge
Ordered Taliban to stop Osama's bloody binge
Mullah Omar reneged; Bushes' saber rattling had a malodorous tinge
U.S forces did the Taliban's quarters singe
Alquaida's overseas operations are diminished
But Alquaida's mission not finished
Alquaida cells in Iraq, Afghanistan bravely battle, mettle distinguished
Nevertheless, the infidel forces not extinguished
Gitmo detainees probed for information
Trite torture brought about stunning reformation
Stressed warrior's fealty to leader declined in isolated station
Under duration, divulged details about Bin Laden's method of operation
Osama's couriers cover blown
Seeds for fruitful harvest are sown
Courier's redoubt canvassed with satellite, drone
Intelligence on compound, residents CIA did hone
Calculated risk; Navy Seals in choppers did alight
Flying quietly with fiery portents into the calm night
Hoping the briny tentacles of terror to blight
Cresting over the shadowy compound; objective in sight
Down the dangling ladders vigilant Seals did repel
Into the throes of darkness descending into the mouth of hell
Perimeter defense, early warning signals were of no avail
Osama's stunned tenants could only stand fast or bail
Each obstacle, human shield the Seals did meticulously fell
Carefully following the trail to the Holy Grail
Entering Osama's room, rending the sacral veil
The caged warrior with precision did shell
Osama's dead body packed in a unmarked crate
Transported vicariously to lab, identity to equate
Identity confirmed; vigilant menace had met his fate
Un-consecrated remains tossed into sea; watery tomb his final estate
Life extension and rejuvenation
a process aimed at stretching life on earth;
It could become the foremost quest from birth.
But, when age succumbs to curbed duration
concepts tested by acute frustration...
then fragile straws are clutched for all they’re worth
as long as in this world one finds a berth.
Thus, plan ‘B’ is launched: reincarnation.
Is life perpetual fruit of false desire,
such as finding the philosopher’s stone,
latched to the wild allure of wind and fire?
An afterlife assures a lasting zone
where faithful ones eternal joy acquire
beside the Lord on His celestial throne.

Each chapter of the night tells a story,
Each moment it arrives offers insight,
Each time it prevails brings out the light within us,
Its duration unravels mysteries.
The night closes the door to daylight,
Which transforms us into fighters and gladiators.
We emerge from obscurity,
Harnessing the fading light.
The night makes us creative tools;
Its challenges encourage us to seek the True Light.
It provides us with depth,
Allowing us to see both sides of a coin.
The night is beautiful;
Its turbulence enables us to peer into the chamber,
We emerge stronger than when we began our journey,
Unperturbed by the shadows in the meadow.
August 11, 2025.
Just a few will act divine
Not everyone is nice and kind
But everyone will get hurt sometimes
Occasionally, someone will cross the line
Some will even become insensitive at times
But we all have mountains that we must climb
So often life is like being whipped by a raging storm
Or like being lashed by the winds
Or like an angry and troubled sea
Winds, like unbearable people
Storms, like unrelenting circumstances
Troubled seas, ripping away the peace and control
All are fierce and forceful, hurting badly sometimes
You may have heard the story of the old seaman.
He said, “In fierce storms there’s only one thing to do;
There’s only one way. You must set the ship in a certain
Position and leave it there”.
Though everything around me be altered and troublesome,
May I set my position, stay the course for the duration, and sail on
Some hurts are quick, visible, and anyone can know
Others are subtle, sharp and pointed, so deep and will not easily show
Some hurts are hidden, and tears are held back that otherwise would flow
Others are not so hidden, but let us know when they are feeling really low
Not all hurts and ills are cause for alarm, because some people learn to cope
Some of us will golf, or run marathons, and others will float away on a big sail boat
They will easily adjust and move on, and never be found hanging at the end of a rope
This is my plea, my prayer, for you dear one: Sail on! Sail on my friend, and never lose hope

I curse with all vengeance
the undeserved desperation
that fate chose me to bear;
and I've asked myself
if ever there would be a sudden death
to this so-called affliction and fear...
Will I endure this unneeded pain furthermore
and suffer uselessly in discontent,
not to have accomplished more
or been restrained by any event
throughtout the duration
of my consuming contention?
I swayed from all gladness
with doubt and uncertainty,
gratifying myself with little or nothing;
all thoughts were constringent,
clinging to hopeless consolations:
I lived in sadness...unsavoring life
in all its wonderful and blissful ways,
not conjoining them to a congruous laugh!
Did it save these dark thoughts from dying,
when I could have been living?
Up to now,I had strongly believed
I would have seen a light
glimmering, where darkness gathered,
or an anticipated delight
awaiting to quench my thirst;
uneasiness and distrust don't conciliate...
Swelled clouds bring rain and sobriety,
reality brings out conscious regrets
that conjure up a past worthiness;
a struggle measured by audacity...
Prodigious words rejected by intruders,
true words prohibited to be spoken by me;
I was given lips to fling them...
not to fearfully oppress them,
but to be present in image and dexterity:
unlikely soggy flowers drenched by storms...
lacking the stamina to stand on their feeble stems,
I must stand up to my creed and truthfulness!
Twenty five years
Of togetherness
A pretty long duration
Doesn’t it call for some celebration?”
She looks at him for approval
“Of course, it does
But there’s the eclipse
Demanding austerity
You see.
Can’t do anything
Otherwise I too
Wanted to raise a din”
He responds
She smiles....
Both looking in different ways
At Fate's guile
Celestial happening
Or a terrestrial shadow
Lurking in the background?
Twenty five eclipsed
With a dot in between
A mere two and a half years
Of knowing
Can it really bring
So much happiness
Outweighing 25 years
Of togetherness?
She gets busy
In household chores
He too turns around
Yearning for more.....
Marital bliss intact
After all
Who knows the secrecy pact
There’s the missing point
Between two and five
A beautiful joint.
