Elspeth returned home early from the party.
Kept her fancy earrings and her slip on.
They made her feel jazzy

Sat on the floor to get cool
Ran her fingers up the frosted glass of the window
Began to write

Was not satisfied, so turned her words into an airplane.
Wondered why she is always the first one home
Is it because she is hard to please?

Or because she knows she would rather be alone
Than spend time with a date who is banal and boring?
Maybe a little bit of both

Her fingers drummed on the cold glass
She felt herself humming. her spirits lifted a bit
Proud she was not willing to waste time with Mr. Wrong

First Date
Blind Date

Should I stay or should I go?
Time is running out to choose
Which Scent or Shoes
To use
Or if its worth the Blues?

Another fail , another tale
No second date she will make
And interest fake

Home alone nice and early
Without the Girly
What's the point really ?

But I will never know if i don't go
So off to meet I search my mate

I hope to God
Our First Date
Lead's to more
I hope I am not a bore
As I am out the door

Wish me luck
I am so uneasy
Feeling queasy

May Cupid's arrow pierce her heart
I am simply not cut out to date

But I am endless romantic who believes in fate
Better to have loved and lost
So here i go

You will be the first to know.

If Only I Could Hibernate

If only I could hibernate
To awaken in the spring
To see sweet swathes of snowdrops
A welcome sign as spring begins
With daffodils and hyacinths
And tulips on their way
And pretty blue forget me nots
In gentle breeze shall dance and sway
The sun she rises higher in the cloudless bluest sky
Great feelings of expectation with every passing day

If only I could hibernate
Just like my tortoise Alfred the Great
For Alfie has the best idea
Snuggling down this time of year
Tummy full
And time to sleep
Not missing winter chills
Or other seasonal ills

I will awaken to spring sunshine
When all around is sparkling
Birdsong t'will infuse the air
There will be green shoots everywhere
Melodious love songs birds shall sing
To celebrate first day of spring

So now as I retire to bed
Snuggling ‘neath my duvet
Time for me to hibernate
And sleep until that special date
When sunshine takes the chill away
I’ll open up my eyes and say
hip hip hurray ~ it's spring today
‘tis time for me to celebrate
my happy springtime birthday date

If only you were

That summer night air forgot to
breathe, I forgot something too.
Not sure what, but I remember:

a star landed in the curved moon
—I saw it in the reflection
of my steaming apple tea

I remember wanting to
tell you, I witnessed a celestial love:
A lone star found her place
rested in the crescent’s embrace
I thought you’d love the story, a love
defying geography. I wondered
if you were seeing what I was, if
our gazes collided

above the thin cotton clouds. I giggled
thinking perhaps it’d count
as a date. I remember

I heard you, in the barely
flowing air, your voice a hushed ghost
I tried to keep you, so
I put light between my fingers
In the wispy gray, you sounded
a little more present, defying
our past and our future—

The stale smoke
smelt nothing like you, but I
remember how it loomed around me
that night, and we watched
In the reflection,
moon and star, until
ripples swallow them into dark auburn

Premium Member My Impromptu Picnic

[Written during a twelve hour power cut caused by
Storms this past winter]

The storm that arrived in the depth of the night
Got even worse with the new morning’s light
Although I presumed that they’d already know
I contacted the electricity co

I asked if they knew the whole town had gone dark
Are you fixing it or just having a lark
I think that I upset the man on the phone
He told me to wear a coat inside my home

Just listen to me, I said to the geezer
I think you should know I’ve got a dead freezer
Without any leccy it’s gonna defrost
And all of its contents are gonna be lost

We’re trying to sort it all out said the man
But I would suggest that you eat what you can
So I checked the freezer to sort out my tea
My cooker is gas which is lucky for me

I made my selection from my warming freezer
Fish fingers and chips… and ice cream and pizza
Sausages, drumsticks, a tasty rib-eye
Two rocket lollies, a steak and ale pie
Some prawns that I think have defrosted before
(I’m still gonna eat them because I’m not sure)
Some old sausage rolls from Christmas last year
A fisherman’s pie I’d forgotten was here
Another small pizza with awful fake cheese
An out of date bag full of freezer burned peas
Four quarter pounders and thinly sliced beans

I think I might loosen the belt of my jeans

CHOREOGRAPHY of LIFE and DEATH
(Four times I have crossed swords with death up to now!)

The cheerful trumpet of
Miraculous life,
Imperatively sounded in
My mother’s life-giving womb,
Heralding with its melodic tune
Another animation:
MINE!
And as my innocent
Infantile heart, provoked by
The challenging divine call,
Started beating tenderly in
The rhythm of the never-dying cosmos
Thus making me
ALIVE!

The promising sound was
Still ringing in my delicate
Ears
Singing the marvelously hopeful song of life,
When the sound of a second trumpet, similar to the first,
Filled with its melancholic tune my tiny world,
Announcing the coming of calamitous death
Thus
Condemning me to die.

LIFE and DEATH beside me they stood,
Facing each other,
Tenderly, holding my hands
And claiming me as their child.

Life was the first to whisper into my ears,
Promises so many.
She talked to me about joy, happiness, love and
Procreation,
About thousands of other things that
She would like to offer.
Only a favor she asked in return;
To be hers and only hers forever!
-
When death heard all this, didn’t make any sound,
Only sardonically smiled at life first,
And then to me emphatically declared:
“The cup of joy you can never drink before you empty
that of sorrow, and no matter what life says to you, in the end,
you will be my very own.”
-
That’s the way my trip in this ephemeral world began,
With vigorous life, leading and tracing the promising way,
And death kept following her, just a few steps behind
Patiently, was waiting to catch up with her pace,
But,
As years, were passing fast one after the other,
Death was approaching rapidly each, and every day.
So the fight they had begun so many years ago,
Relentless war now becomes, with life still the
Winner.

Yet, the ill-fated date, unexpectedly, came to my great surprise,
When the cold hands of death I felt around my skeleton waist,
Squeezing the life out of me with all their force and main.
Eager to extinguish in me wished, the very last spark of life,
And as the shrilling wind of death was howling throughout
My body, I fell at once breathless, dead and
Still over the ground remained!

Infliction - Violence On Children

Please let me out, I will not do it again, please, please, I am scared, I am scared, please, sorry, sorry, sorry, there are demons, rats, cockroaches, ghosts, I will not do it again, I am really scared,Bang, bang, thud, thud...

They locked me up in attic without light. I kept banging the door really scared but no one came...

Punishment for mistake I had done.
they were heartless ; my parents.

My mother took a safety pin and pricked me again and again...

My hands held tightly, she burnt it with hot spatula straight from gas!

I was beaten with iron rod, whipped with belt!

One of these repeated for every mistake done!

I hated my parents was perpectually scared...

One day I ran away
someone promised me a job
relative saw me
back home they beat me black and blue

After that I gave up I accepted my fate
"what is the maximum anybody can do? beating? After few days pain will go away."

I stole money from my house drank liquor, smoked, had girlfriends.
I was sad, depressed
All I wanted was some love and praise and happiness!

They told me it is for your good. We want you to be perfect.
Perfection at what cost?
For ego gratification and future money?
What about my feelings? My happiness?

One day after I grew up, I did ask them

Why you hurt me again and again?
Are you really my parents?
How can parents inflict pain their own blood?
Where was the love care and compassion gone?

Parents are to be epitome of love and guidance,
solace for mind,
one who ease away childs worries and tensions
You never did that for me.
You only gave me pain.

Now that you are weak and old, shall I give the same treatment to you?
I can also find many clumsy reasons like you.
Shall I do it?
Answer me?
ANSWER ME!

They were speechless! Didn't know what to say.
How can anyone justify such acts.?
That day they cried like small babies.

I told them,
"Don't worry I won't do it.
I know how much suffering it brings.
I am human and I don't want to sin."

Even now all alone, I often cry from inside thinking of helpless kids like me.

Premium Member Summers Heat

Mid, summer months of nineteen-fifty five-
I met my sweetheart on a rare blind date.
A mere sixteen- for me, love came alive;
the moment we locked eyes- it was too late.

Too late to ever give my heart away
to any other man from that day on!
It beat so hard within my chest to say-
our summers heat, forever-love was spawn.

So young we were- most thought it just a fling.
However, after high school and beyond-
when he became a fine Marine- we'd cling
to his next leave- reheat, keep warm our bond.

We wed in summer, 'fifty-eight! So sweet!
Now- sixty-five years since that- summers heat.

The Tulips Curtain Call

The ground was dark and still in the farmers meadow,
The wind lay still, against the ground, silent and low.
He held his breath, tapping the ground, he waited, knowing,
something new was soon to grow.

The soil turned inside out, grumpy at the turmoil,
inside it now, new seeds did lay, would they be
both boy and girl?
The garden bed, lay long and proud in row's,
he knew what was to come, his wisdom knew the truth,
it would take all to work together, rain, wind and sun!

The sun he rose, day in and out, as the wind mourned a gentle sad song.
The rain did softly pitter patter, every evening, on and on.
The wind took his place as the ground grew warm, she would greet them soon.
Days into weeks, the soil did shiver and excitement mounted,
The wind, threw off his mournful cloak, intrigued by what he saw,
he played with little shoots, that showed, by the lighting of the moon.

As weeks grew on, the sun soon started to turn,
the wind anxious at the chill,
they needed to come, quickly now,
before the ground grew cold.
Tough little green stems beating their way,
pushing hard against the stone, finally breaking
at the light of the day.
Hooray, such cheer, to see the little green troops
the bed so proud at the work he had done.

The ground whispered to the wind, the creatures they did chatter,
the announcement of their glorious bloom, was the subject of the matter.
Eventually the day, the sun did smile,
the wind raced to and fro,
up and up the shoots strong and proud,
to announce the Tulips show.

One, two, three and four,
a hush came over the garden once more.
Silence as once again breathe was held,
she lifted her bulb and opened her petals
announcing she was born.

Our Tulip laughed as she sang out loud
her wonderful morning song.
She woke the others, and they too greeted the wind and sun.
The meadow alive and washed in colour, Tulips as jewels of red, blue, yellow and more.
What a sight, what a sound, what a delight to see, the Trumpets curtain call.

Premium Member Regina's Blind Date

In today’s society, as each man lives his life,
he is entitled by law to have only one wife.
The sweetest question to my future bride Stephanie
would be my own words, “Stephanie, will you marry me?”
Of course, she replied with a very elated “yes”.
She promised me to provide a life of happiness.
However, one problem showed from the euphoria.
This move would break the heart of her best friend Regina.
Although Regina wished us all the best with her heart,
Stephanie and I knew inside she was torn apart.

Although Regina was Stephanie’s best life-long friend,
Regina probably felt her world was at an end.
This made me feel some guilt with a bit of sympathy.
After all, through Regina, I first met Stephanie.
I came up with something that seemed satisfactory.
“We should set up Regina with a blind date some night.
I have a cousin named Joe that appears to be right.
In almost every way, my cousin Joe looks like me.
I’m sure Joe and Regina can both be quite happy.”
We had planned for the next weekend when those two should meet.
Over the phone, I described Regina as too sweet.
Joe was happy to hear, and could not wait for that night.
Everything seemed to be going as planned, and just right.

Regina arrived at my house on Saturday night.
She was dressed in silk with her appearance a delight.
Regina wanted to make a great first impression
This lady thought green was appealing for the session.
Joe was downstairs in the den watching television.
I called him up right after Regina’s arrival.
Joe’s looks impressed Regina. She rendered a big smile.
