Parody of Crocodile Rock/an Elton John/Bernie Taupin song
(some of the lines may seem strange, but I truly tried to imitate the exact syllable
count of the song Crocodile rock, and in some lines you have to sing the words
extra fast!)
Reading in Bed
Long ago before VCR,
The internet and DVR,
I’d hang out with family
‘cause there were only four stations on the TV.
With my records playing, I would get
A little crazy dancing; then in my bed
While my sisters played, I lay and fed my head.
I was cozy with my nose-y in a book, in my bed.
Chorus:
While in my bed reading, I sure was feeding
my small head with fantasy!
And when my Mama called out for me,
in my bed is where I would be!
Oh, how I just loved my Stephen King,
romance novels, Lord of the Rings.. ..
Yeah, that reading in bed was a cool thing!
Wow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow
Well, the years have flown , and now I’m all grown
but I hardly know how to work my cell phone.
All night commenting to friends on the net.
Reading their poems is all the reading I get!
I’m so busy, by midnight I’m dead.
Can’t imagine my reading in bed.
It’s a cure same as counting sheep.
‘Cause now when I try it, I just fall to sleep!
Chorus
(Repeat first stanza and Chorus one last time!)
For John Heck's "Dear John" contest
“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it…” Psalm 127 of the King James Bible
God’s love props home where we belong
There we hear Mom’s sweet caring song
As kindness secures joy of heart
Braced upon Dad’s fortress-rampart.
Christ's peace reigns above dearest home
Under mutual respect dome
Exuding warm forgiveness-bliss
Ending conflicts of Brod and Sis.
The Saviour guards our home so well
Cheering souls inside prayer-cell
Soaring freely toward faith flight
While reaching-out, bearing hope’s light.
Our grace-anchored home is so blest
Where members share with all their best
Since the Lord builds relationship
Midst compassion-filled fellowship.

Sleep wraps my brain like a pink present
Dreams fly around like a purple pheasant
Not always red realistic nor always pleasant
Perhaps affected when moon is a crescent
Watching dreams as if view yellow star
Wondering if they teal tell who you are
Will life be blessed or a messy sour tart
Whether good or bad messaging heart
Sometimes I wake up to cranberry confess
Hoping to grasp power of dream at best
Inspired to change a view or revisit test
Like it throws candy clue that I must digest
Picking up pen or paper or using cell phone
Sewing together chocolate conscious poem
Needling nagging neon thoughts so strong
Ideas thrill like lavender lullaby silky song
Satisfied with words that tap dance on air
Flying as blue birds from my kinky hair
Soothing my mind able to relax cherry care
Back to sleep I go hosting rem dream’s dare
In a time before the Eukaryote cell
Simple cells floated, and all was well
A garden of Eden in blissful flotation
Then innocence lost, onset of predation.
Big Bacteria attacked the small who were closest
Protists engulfed prey with phagocytosis.
Then plants arose, and to eat them, herbivores
Those herbivores got as big as a Brachiosaur.
Dinosaurs became birds by evolution
Hawks and Eagles were nature's solution.
They ate small mammals, natural balance.
No garden of Eden for a squirrel in the talons.
Herbivorous wombats became Marsupial lions.
A wolf marsupial evolved, such weirdness in science:
Looked just like one, evolved in same way
We think that in packs it ran down its prey.
Why can't nature leave its offspring alone?
Why endless fear, a danger zone?
Why must the predator evolve from the prey?
Can't we all get along, before judgement day?
In predation at least, there's no ill will
Some predator is hungry, wants to eat his fill
Intraspecies is where most evil arises
Home Sapiens specifically give us surprises.
Look at the nastiness once out of the garden
Nature should beg us for pardon.
What's it like to get what makes you feel whole, not even whole jus gives you a reason to live? Gives you a season to look forward to. No expectations held at all. That door was closed at the beginning. No way I could find a person who has as much as me to give.
Simple communication token as pressure or prying that only starts confusion and anxiety. Presence meant as affection not knowing what to say or do to not trigger something I had nothing to do with, really makes me question sobriety.
Hiding emotions, forced to believe words over actions, pouring until I'm empty, and only receiving confirmation when given first. Battles fought, scares remembered, hell is found when the peace you seek demands obedience and silence to the point you want to burst.
I'm an example of a bad example. I'm nobody that you wanna be, cause the world is afraid of me. I never rely on my sanity, I threw it away and created the monster that has your attention today. I'm so hidden and you're never gonna see.
"Don't overthink so much!" "If there is a problem I will say something!" "Stop asking me so many questions!" "Every guy I have been with hit or yelled at me." "I'm not use to being treated so well." You are perfect the way you are. I will treat you as my Queen the way you deserve.
My mind is a cell. No one to talk to, no way to vent with constructive criticism. My thoughts run and the voices tell ghost stories they convince me are real. My personality is lacking. My attitude reflects my internal conflicts. It's either the best possible way or the world is gonna end and we are all gonna die. I can't find a middle, I can't find a way out of my self-built prison.
You don't know my story. No one knows my story. I'm in this life by myself full of worry. You think you know about me. people think they know about me. Everyone assumes. They ask no questions; they conduct no investigations. Going nowhere in a hurry.
What's it like to be wanted? To be chosen and showed. What's it like to not guess what you mean to others? I thought I knew at one time. I thought I found it this time. Found out I'm playing tetris with a losing code.
My pure heart and,
The kindness in my soul,
It has been destroyed, and it's broken.
You took that from me.
One fleeting moment in history,
One glimpse of time,
Like a ripple in the ocean,
Causing a tsunami that you started.
You took everything from me,
Destroying my whole world.
My heart has turned to stone.
It is now in the blackness of my soul.
The person that I was is gone.
The words Coward, Narcissistic, and Evil,
Describe the person that you are.
You did give me one thing,
You fueled the anger in my heart,
Now I have a burning inside my soul,
That will not rest.
I am no longer a victim.
I want justice and,
The Lady in white with a swift sword and,
The scales of justice will ensure that happens.
I will not rest until that cell door slams.
This is for me and all the people,
Who trusted someone not realizing,
They are nothing but a monster.
One day the light will shine in,
The black darkness of my heart and soul,
Then I will begin to live again.
We’ve changed, so much
have we lost that soft touch?
when the wind blows through the leaves
do we hear the music, as she grieves?
We’ve changed, it happened when?
I’m not sure, but if feels like sin
when the music of God’s grace
listens to the voices – the human race.
We’ve changed, lost our gift for giving
is this the answer? Have we stopped living?
Did it happen when cell phones awoke
a feeling inside – like another world spoke?
We’ve changed, but it isn’t the end
we can return to being a true friend
give from our heart, our light and love
with kindness stirred by God above!
We’ve changed and I believe we all know it
if we will simply look inside ourself and admit
when all is said and done, we’ve lost our concern
will we let go of our pride and finally learn?
When it comes down to it, we only need one thing
the love and hope and faith inspired by our King
the peace that comes to us, because He gave it all
His life a sacrifice, guiding us so we’ll never fall
We’ve changed quite a bit, but the truth shall tell
He saved us from the darkest place called hell
He saved us from these fears and tears, all the worst
Reassuring our souls that our lives He reversed.
We’ve changed and sometimes I know it seems strange
to let God take control, our lives, our hearts, to rearrange
but I know, when He takes control – love has its way
and all I need to do is open my heart and pray…
wherever I’m weak, He’ll be my strength
and I know He will go to the greatest length
to give me a second chance to live altruistically
life with Jesus is a life lived optimistically
with hope, I offer Him my life
with faith, I believe in His sacrifice
with love, the way looks so bright
with Him, I know it’s going to be alright!
On a summer break from college,
When I traveled ‘cross the sea,
My new Instamatic camera
Made the trip (plus film) with me.
Later on, I graduated
To a camera with a case
And the kind of film you had to wind,
Much harder to replace.
Thus, for parties or vacations,
I would always be prepared
To snap pictures then make copies
So the images were shared.
That was all before our cell phones
Came with cameras installed.
Now I’m always at the ready
If a photo moment’s called.
When technology’s updated,
I am mostly quite inept,
But I so prefer my iPhone
To the cameras I once schlepped.
A black bear climbed a tree.
The tree
was not in a suburb,
more an un-walled hiking space.
A concerned cell phone monitor
caught the bear up a tree
while it was being a bear up a tree.
This cannot stand.
A bear up a tree,
almost near to us,
we who jog, walk, or off-road
near the very same kind of tree!
The press are alerted.
News trucks race to see
a bear up a tree.
Pundits posit humane euthanasia,
some favor dope-filled blow guns,
poles and nets.
The bear cannot hear the news,
for it is up a tree.
An outraged dawn breaks.
The bear is no longer up a tree,
it has been spotted
as definitely not up a tree!
For days no black bear is seen
climbing a tree,
or even a nearby tree.
News trucks race to be
somewhere else.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between finding a soul mate,
And having a cell mate.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between mates' rates,
And paying the rates.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between not being late,
And a broken dinner plate.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between staying up late,
And the boss having no need to berate.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between Marrying Kate,
And staying in a single state.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between tempting fate,
And having something better to celebrate.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between having time to create,
And having time to hate.
The choices we make,
Can be the difference between being in a positive state,
And worrying about your heart rate.
