Reading In Bed

Parody of Crocodile Rock/an Elton John/Bernie Taupin song (some of the lines may seem strange, but I truly tried to imitate the exact syllable count of the song Crocodile rock, and in some lines you have to sing the words extra fast!) Reading in Bed Long ago before VCR, The internet and DVR, I’d hang out with family ‘cause there were only four stations on the TV. With my records playing, I would get A little crazy dancing; then in my bed While my sisters played, I lay and fed my head. I was cozy with my nose-y in a book, in my bed. Chorus: While in my bed reading, I sure was feeding my small head with fantasy! And when my Mama called out for me, in my bed is where I would be! Oh, how I just loved my Stephen King, romance novels, Lord of the Rings.. .. Yeah, that reading in bed was a cool thing! Wow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow Well, the years have flown , and now I’m all grown but I hardly know how to work my cell phone. All night commenting to friends on the net. Reading their poems is all the reading I get! I’m so busy, by midnight I’m dead. Can’t imagine my reading in bed. It’s a cure same as counting sheep. ‘Cause now when I try it, I just fall to sleep! Chorus (Repeat first stanza and Chorus one last time!) For John Heck's "Dear John" contest

Very creative, Andrea. Congratulations on your win in John's contest. We should send all the lyrics to Elton John. I know he has a sense of humor; got to see him perform and he was like a wild man! Love, Carolyn

I can hear it. Not sure I sped up the right words, but I kind of made it fit the beat. You are right about Pinball Wizard being a Who song, written for the Rock Opera "Tommy". EJ sang it for the movie version and made it a hit. Maybe it doesn't qualify because it's not a BT song, but, what the heck. Good luck in the contest and... GET OUT OF BED! Joe

This contest sure seemed like a challenge and wow for you for writing this! I am drawing a blank right now though how Crocodile rock sounds? for some reason I am on Christmas mode and thinking of Jingle bell rock-- haha crazy me-- nonetheless I can so relate to not being able to read any book these days-- seems like forever since I last finished a novel-- so strange for me!! ;) hugs-- I hope this gets into the winner's circle :)

I hear ya. I was watching the national championship football game last night - fell asleep during the games big plays. Getting old. Hey! Bed is for sleeping. Shed not a tear, dear. your poetry is more important than reading in bed. Love, Dave

There's a lot of truth behind this witty write, Andrea. Soup members don't have time to read books anymore. The Internet is controling our lives. Best wishes in John's contest, Carolyn

Great, Andrea! Your lines reminded me of the start of at that time yet black&white TV. We used to go to pubs etc. where they had a TV-set at that time. But in the later 1950ies we had our own one. At that time there were only two stations mainly showing shows etc. So I can say I grwe up with TV. Well written! Love, Gert

lol. Bet you reaqlly enjoyed writing this, it certainly sounds like you did and so does the reader with its upbeat rhythm and lyrical flow. Loved it and I guess as in respect of picking up a book these days is rare for me too it is probably the same for many poets and authors. Sorry I don't get to more more often as I love to read so many here! Great write Andrea, glat you enjoyed "Its your attention to detail", it is one of my favorites... Thanks for coming by again. xAnna-Mariex

Hey again Andrea, that "letters from heaven" is a different friend, he passed away in 1993 and we never met.. We were both in High School at the time our final year. I remember looking for his name in the paper when our results were posted and found it strange that his name wasn't there.. Only to find out that he never wrote his finals cause he passed away in October.. Love Wilma
