Small Acts

a little sun through window
a whisper as the house
takes a breath and I’m
a moment older lost in reflection
about how the ones I loved
come back to me each time
I get out of bed remembering
how someone who worked
with me stood near me
as I cleaned up a spill
a small act but it was
a big thing at the time
I ponder a crack in the highway
that was patched and that little things
lead to something greater as they
always have and when I was in grade
school I walked across the Mississippi
when it a stream flowing from a lake
while my father stood by and watched
and now the river carries the weight
of our weary lives and this morning
in a moment of silence
conversations once lost come back to me

Fun times when we’re together
Freaky Friday switching partners
First person to know our thoughts
Faith in each other when times get tough
Forever on our minds
Fearless when the other one needs help
From another mother my sister or brother

Premium MemberThe List

My wife gave me a list,

off I went, shopping --
not my style, a list,
myself a freelance
enthusiast by nature --
Inspiration of the moment!
(already one can tell, that
this would not end well)

Where are the eggs?

There was this street vendor
I passed, selling chickens --
cackling coming from the
backseat of the van, should have
been an immediate give-away. They grew
quickly:

Of course, any fool knows that,
if you have chickens, eventually
you will have eggs…but not if they
are all roasters!

My wife said, we should eat them.

Mathew, Mark, Luke and John
looked up at me,
with the most cherub eyes:

Well, my wife, not nearly
as normal as I, was not the
type to let things settle, once
her taste-buds were defined

I hid the ax in the basement,

behind a glass tank, where my

pet cobra, Cuddles, resides --

knowing the chickens would be safe

till Costco opened the following
morning --

on her new list, eggs again, roasted
chicken

or Ax….

Premium MemberThe Heart Knows What The Mind Doesn't

Believing in you is
Being just you, the simplicity of you
Embracing each twist and turn
Stepping outside the confines of your mind
Revealing truths and bringing clarity in chaos
Engaging in the art of the here and now
Changing dark unnecessary innateness
Diving into each brushstroke, swaths of colorways
Letting the moment paint a masterpiece uniquely yours
Freeing up the shackles of the mind
Feeling compassion of heart and soul
Taking a voyage to the center of universal reality~
Shedding many prejudices indelibly embedded in thought
Unmasking anxieties that do not change the world,
serving only to distract causing mental coil
Trusting your instincts is your compass
Off putting, although valuable truth may be
a diamond amidst pebbles
Experiencing every morsel of life’s banquette

Premium MemberValentine List

Of love's joy, and
fond mystery, too much
can never be said,

nor tenderly written
poetically read~

lavishly spread!

Let poet's all proclaim
in unison, another day
of oceans, teeming with
chocolate hearts --

rose scent Everest' tall

a mass of gems gifted
that would even dwarf
those guarded towers
of the bejeweled royal! --

Throw kisses plenty, enough to melt and heat
a world of frigid Arctic seas. Let all, who have
not yet, add their hopeful names
to Valentines tenderly evolving bliss-list --

Let even, us, well seasoned participants celebrate
again with the young on this blessed, sacred eve --

again my love

imprint our names, sealed
forever~ with True Love's, indelible kiss.

A List Exists

A record exist,

Way beyond this,

It's very to miss.

Desires try to hide this,

Distracted by bliss,

we create a longer list.

Unaware it exists,

We repeat The twist,

Round and round,

Up and down,

Marking it off the list.

Premium MemberPutting my own twist on Psalm 23's List

If the LORD is my Lamb
I'll shepherd Him back

To a world that has lost Him from their sight
as we've often sunbathed and sailed without giving Him a thought

He streams Mercy into our souls
taking away the sins of the world
for He's the Lamb of God

I walk with Him through the valley of the shadow of death
journeying with His Way of the Cross, same difference
His Cross comforts me because He takes our place to redeem us

He instituted the Last Supper table for all generations
hidden in a world that finds His "Real Presence" hard to accept
another healing Presence is felt through anointing our heads with oil
even little St. Therese knew any sized cup will overflow abundantly, like a soul

God is so good and merciful and His Divine rays chase me
I witness to His Light, penetrating my heart on my darkest days
even though I was never accepted into convent residency
I seek a lifelong good standing with the Church, united to Him beyond the end

Premium MemberApocalypse Survival Guide

Never look at social media,
never live vicariously;
Never feed any drama,
never apologize needlessly;
Never give in to the status quo,
never say ‘Yes’ if the heart says ‘No’;

Never dance to someone else’s rhythm,
never think that yours isn’t enough;
Never turn your back on your gut,
never betray it for destructive poison;
Never think that logic makes no sense,
never ignore your intuition;

Never become complacent,
never become docile;
Never doubt you’re a survivor,
never stop saying ‘I’ve got this.’
Never think you’ve outgrown change,
never think it can’t be achieved;

Never stop sharpening your dreams,
never file down your claws.

What I Learned From Chronic Pain

1. know your limits
-don't exceed them when you know it will only cause you more pain
-push past them every day and embrace the sting

2. you aren't alone
-not only this, but you alone are not enough
        -don't let them tell you that you are
-you will only get through this with help

3. don't be afraid to cry
-you will hate yourself, your life, your circumstances
       -basically, everything you are and have and do and...
-but you are not defined by the times you trip, stumble, fall down, or crash and burn
-you are defined by the times you rise from the ashes, wipe off your bloody and scraped palms, and fight again

4. vulnerability is ok
-even if it's just you and your cat

5. tomorrow will be better than today
-life is what you choose to make it
       -if you believe that tomorrow will be better, it will be
       -if you tell yourself you'll get through this, you will
-even when it's not

6. you are stronger than you know
-that body of yours can take a whole lot more punishment than you could ever believe
-your mind is even stronger than your body
-you are beautiful and powerful
       -the struggle is what makes everything worth it

Premium MemberSharing My List

Shared my list with God today

the pros and cons of the season:

how fond I am of blossoms, despite
all the sneezing – how showers cleanse
the air, refreshment of a spring drenching;
how orchids abundance bear, how perfect
nights are for strolling, loving couples
hands assuring – puckering in leafy shadows,
beneath endearing folds of canopies, stars all a-blush,
beaming deeply brighter
from such intimate exchange –

Shared my list with God today – more
pros than cons; not grading His Season,
nor His Methods nor Reason...just wanting
to say about this one, of Rebirth and
tasteful Sharing, I find no other, delightful
enough for affectionate comparing....

Premium MemberSupport

Support is not enabling,
support is not giving in;
Support is not giving up;

Support is so damn hard,
support  is tough love;
Support is knowing
when to say ‘Enough’;

Support is sharing a cup,
support is ignoring static;
Support is healthy boundaries;

Support of this mindset
does not give you a villain’s heart;
Support is not becoming
laziness’s counterpart.

Premium MemberFleshy Body Rots and Dies As My Spirit Soul Soars and Flies

FLESHY BODY ROTS AND DIES AS MY SPIRIT SOUL SOARS AND FLIES
What's in the heart
Somewhat fleshy, beating, contracting
My mind churns wrinkled like a raisin
My eyes visualize thing I shouldn’t spy
As my feet take me on a journey not safe
My legs cramp up as I strain to sit
My back aches because of my mistakes I’ve made
As my stomach hungers my soul reflects
You see All of this my filthy flesh will rot
Only thing that matters is that my soul and spirit returns to heaven

Spend time in prayer, in scripture, in God’s presence – every day, rain or shine, because this is the time I shall forever treasure!

Plant a flower, a tree, a smile… a seed of hope, faith or love – nourish it with kindness, compassion and light from the One who created us all!

Lift a heart, a burden or darkness – with a song, a poem, a heartfelt thanks for the one who knows that the best gifts come from above and are brought alive by the power of love!

Wish on a star or throw a penny into a fountain overflowing with the wishes of those gone on before you, little reminders that we all take pleasure in the dreams that inspire our hearts to believe!

Share a silent moment, a gesture of charity, a feeling or word or deed, intended to give the recipient a sincere feeling of joy and wonder that shine from the soul who knows that God is the giver of every good and perfect gift, especially those given from the spirit of love that abides on hearts who sincerely deliver the brilliance of compassionate grace!

Premium MemberIt's Magical

It’s magical
     --the glint in a two-year-old’s eyes
     as she stands very quietly in front of you,
     and you know exactly what she is doing.
It’s magical
     --when a grown man takes pieces of
    toilet tissue and makes an origami bird
    out of them.
It’s magical
     --when an old man drops his cane
     and does a quick skip on the pavement.
It’s magical
     --the look of shame on a puppy’s face
    when he has peed on the carpet because
    he couldn’t hold it any longer, knowing he
    is going to get scolded.
It’s magical
     --when the magician shuffles a deck of
    cards from one hand to another twelve
    inches apart and not one card drops!
It’s magical
     --the poet writes an exquisite verse and
    has absolutely no idea where it came from.
