Premium MemberQuiet

Quiet juxtaposes sound;
a time when mute thoughts abound.
And though quiet may seem rare,
it can be found anywhere.

Quiet resides in stillness,
a respite from life's shrillness.
From cell phones to children's toys;
we get bombarded by noise.

Quiet's a sanctuary;
when chaos becomes scary.
And quiet's a peaceful state;
that regulates your heart rate.

Quiet is a time of bliss;
comparable to a kiss.
It's a feeling of calmness;
you've garnered from aloneness.

Quiet's that extended hush
when your mind tells you to shush.
And morphs into a gateway;
when you need to get away.

September Spring

Tui birdsong starts again, melodious warbling
              bitter southerly wind still bites
sleet, horizontal and cold, flattens the daffodils
sudden rays of bright warm sunshine
race over paddocks
vivid green grass juxtaposes clear blue sky
Earth warms

Janus

Just like humans, Janus
Juxtaposes two sides
Jared in the same vessel,
Just the name, “gatekeeper”,
Jettisons his salient
Justly potent power,
Janus is lord of time.

Super Duper

they put us
side by side
on a shelf

turning our
keys at the
same time

but we each
have different
tempos as we

motionlessly
pose in stance
atop our music

boxes and turn
merry go round
as if to dance

you a ballerina
me a frog with
tux and tails

top hat cane
complete
Puttin' on the

Ritz which
juxtaposes
though we're

both on one
leg your form
is balanced

on one toe in
that of sacred
geometry

so as our music
slowly slows
yours shows

still melodic
lines symmetrically
infinitesimal eternal

my song has stopped
but in the faintest quiet
yours will always be heard

Writing It Right

No matter how or what you write:
A myth, a melodrama or a mystery,
About your life or a dreadful night
In a poem, a song or a short story;

Write in a manner to evoke pathos,
And in matter to mirror a tragedy,
Establish a sincere sense of ethos
Whether you write a satire or a comedy.

Either try to provoke a hearty laughter
Or to elicit a feeling of warm sorrow,
Steer them stealthily to a myth buster
Or promise them a better tomorrow.

Write an epic, an elegy or a pastoral
With a sublime, visionary imagination,
A ballad, an ode or even a doggerel
of a dramatic event or a silly situation.

Perceive the pulse and tone of the people,
The image, the rhythm and the sound,
The habit, custom, creed and the foible,
Develop the theme with metaphors abound.

The essence of life belongs to poetry,
It is an ever enriching avocation,
Where purity of love overcomes bigotry,
Where reality juxtaposes with imagination!

Down where the Rain Lilies blossom
Rain drops drip from roses
Spider Lilies dance to rain's song
Color juxtaposes

Spider Lilies of deep orange
Spider Lilies of white
Delicate petals curled upward
Morning beauty delight

Within Senses

Cool liquid drizzles down from the skies
upon the riot of hues and tints
that stretch forth from verdant fields
I see crimson colored rhodos,
crepe paper orange poppies, and
sunshine daffodils
each distinct in it's own form and fashion
decorated to grace the backdrop of my mind-

such a beautiful and lovely day
perfect for lazing around and soaking up the sun
counting clouds as they melt by
until the afternoon
juxtaposes itself against the blanket of the evening

This evening finds me wrapped in the comfort of your smile
holding memories of the day's wondrous sights and smells
it's so good to be alive
as I make the transition from day to night
I've fallen for the luminescence that I find in your eyes
as it follows me now
wherever I go
so that I am never alone
anymore.

T. C. Canon: Woman With Umbrella

In today's sunlight bleached ... The woman sit
Covered by modernity in a complex view -
Of purple printed dress exhaling his wit:
A purple bag juxtaposes the old with new
She seems to sit on the lowest green rows
Of hill, her mocassin boots in a blue shade
All her mystic Indianess about her flows
Like sunlight through the childlike glade.
And I before him stood a child amazed still
With the uncorrupted pastoral of his world
The unblemished lines of a rolling hill
Stretched like a strand of fencing his love unfurled
Denying the eyes temptation to things
Grander than a pink sky above it all, one
White cloud of memory like a tear brings
The absent buffalo hunters from lost horizon

Missive To Rg

Reason bare of structure like a storm
Ovulating in an angry sea
Stir sedition and juxtaposes its norm
Ego-wise against a season's glee
Latent turbulence primed with insecurity
Drizzled from a tempestuous sun
Altar of a sadist's alternating history

Gulp your blustering track to the mark
Rendered as God's boundary
Exert not your vain effort to spark
Excitement of lightening in the air
Never more your rage shall cloy my heart with fear.
