Premium MemberWhen She Smiles

She is sweet as a jujube that one
doling out Christmas cards by the ton
Her colorful clothes are like banners
and she reminds me of a sparkly elf

Wearing cute bows in her hair
she tells ding dong stories of old
A jolly girl that is as bright as can be
I love it when she sits by the Xmas tree

I call her my doppelganger my mini-me
her hair was once gold and now its gray
of those lovely cards, she owns a stack!
when she smiles she doesn't hold back.

Premium MemberJujube Tree

Ziziphus Jujuba tree:
Australia's where they be.
Why all the fuss?
Well, let’s discuss;
We'll do so amicably!

Somewhat tangentially,
Known as a Jujube tree.
Ziziphus fruit
Sounds pretty cute;
I hope you will agree.

H/T to Jack Ellison's Goofus... wondered what rhymed with 'goofus', and next thing I know, I'm looking at these weird red fruit...

Premium MemberI Am Danu

In the Irish mountain "Breasts of Anu" I reside.
I am mother goddess, the spirit essence of nature.
Anu or Danu my worshipers call me with pride.
Dana or Ana my believers apply their nomenclature.
I am the female principle, primal vessel for all things.
I birthed the people of Dana, the Celtic race of gods.
As enchantress, my incantations are said by kings.
As avatar of river and land, I appear on many facades.
Revered over Europe, I grant my name to River Danube.
I even appear in Sanskrit as the spirit of the aquatic.
You will celebrate the fruity flavors of the jujube,
as I am prosperity and food provider dramatic.

I am Danu, goddess of Earth and river fecund.
I am Anu, mother of wealth to many I have beckoned.

Gnarled Branches of a Jujube Tree

A debauchery seed into an arid soil was the start of you.
Although your roots spread deep and wide in this uninspiring
patch of earth.
The growth of your trunk is stunted by a loveless life.
The sap of you is diseased with obsession and narcissism.
Your thorny branches are gnarled and grow many thorny gnarled branches
that bear small hard bitter fruit that falls to the ground and feeds the worms.
In your dotage years, the earth and the sun and the way things went
rotted you completely.
The memory of you is afflicting, yet heartening.

Premium MemberGarden Scented Poetry

you looked directly at me with
bright blueberry blue eyes
adorned with a sincere singular smile

freshly planted baby droplets of dew bloomed
filling the air in a most unique bouquet

your elegance scented the sprawling outdoors
in a spring flower eau de cologne
i exhaled a happy sigh
proclaiming 'i have arrived'

shy as i am...i blushed

my face went from a velvet peach tone
to a childlike jujube red

i knew i was in love
not another flower would i ever pick

still
all that is you
lines our bed
each and every petal
