Time was running out, Christmas Eve was drawing nigh.
The elves had worked day and night since early in July!
To meet Santa's toy-making schedule there must be no slack,
To ensure there were lots of goodies for Santa's toy sack!
Elfie was a mischievous but hard-working little spritel
He was the littlest elf of all, alas, this added to his plight!
It seemed that the harder he worked and try as he might,
The hapless little fellow just could not do anything right!
For example, he put Jills in boxes labled 'Jacks in the Box',
And placed chirping chickadees in all the cuckoo clocks!
As he daydreamed he painted the fire trucks aquamarine,
And put wheels and wings on every toy submarine!
Talking dolls counted cadence, "Hup, two, three, four";
Toy soldiers cried, "I want my mama!" as they marched to war!
He placed Lincoln Logs in boxes labeled 'Tinker Toys'!
Oh! What a Christmas 'twould be for little girls and boys!
Santa mused, "It seems that every job I put him on he mars;
So I'll put him to work pulling levers making Christmas stars!"
He did so well Santa said, "Won't you come along with me,
And place a brilliant star atop every child's Christmas Tree?"

Jill’s wedding cake reflected her eclectic personality
Perky, pretty with prominent polka dots
It included stripes and flowers
Jill is an artist the groom’s side explained to each other
No one had to explain anything to Jill’s side. They are all artists.
Her wedding dress was an ombre of spring colors.
She was as fresh and dainty and lovely as her cake.
Jill is going to shake up that other family her friends said.
She was full of giggly delight when she arrived in front of her groom.
Ready to shake him up first.

Hung up my saddle and its reins
Now I'll count the losses and gains
My reputation's got some stains
I've still got Texas in my veins
I got old with some aches and pains
My knees creak whenever it rains
I know horses from tails to manes
I know each brand upon the plains
I know nothin' of Jills and Janes
It seems too much for one man's brains
Don't mean to be one who complains
Wish I'd married and wore the chains
Now my life's goin' down the drains
Thinkin' on it gives me the strains
But honky-tonks still play refrains
They still make whisky from the grains

Jackolantern
Jaws she blows tricks and treats
just the sweetest pumpkin,
jamming to candle light,
jaspers and goblins flight.
Jumping Jack's and Jills find,
jeweled cutouts divine,
jostling for lantern's glow.

We all know the story about
Little Miss Muffet,
but did she ever get over
being arachnophobic,
and Jack and Jills little
hike up the hill,
did they ever recover
from their nasty spill,
and poor Humpty Dumpty
with his tragic plummet,
were all the kings men using
his remains to make an omelette,
and Rock-a-Bye Babys cradle
being placed on a treetop,
were the babys parents
ever apprehended,
and the London Bridge
which is falling down,
why is the infrastructure
so shoddy, was it designed
by some clown,
and last but not least,
when playing
Ring around the Rosie,
does poor Rosie ever
get to survive,
these are the cliffhanging
nursery rhymes we
grew up singing with fun,
but like an inquisitive detective
want to re-open each case
and solve each and every one!

A warning to all Jacks and Jills,
"The world is full of manmade ills
that can't be cured by manmade pills."

The boxing, leaping mad March hares
That chase and dash in umpteen pairs,
That tear through fields, and hare up hills -
All jealous Jacks, or Jacks and Jills
(The femme fatales, the luckless beaus)?
But are they crazy? No one knows…
