My story need not involve a person’s glory
though I hope it will be interestingly oratory
and preferably self-explanatory
rather than overly expository.
To titillate my readers, I could even make it just a wee bit gory.

Books

Interestingly, on the train books attract books
Just imagine it. The entire train is single-decked
There are so many passengers, life travelers
The readers often sit close to each other. Why?
They don’t know each other. Their hearts are one
Today night on a train I saw a lady again
Beautiful, young, headphones on her head again
She smiled at me. I smiled at her. We continued reading
Our books

God Bless You!

Finished shift at eleven o’clock in the night
and go to the underground station, the train flying
to the next stop, changed the line here, at Baker Street
Get on the first carriage, I am always sitting here, the best place
My bag dropped on the seat, I sat down, I love the train window
Movie of the passing night view of the city, and views. I said, ‘Finish today.’

A man sat across from me. He was dressed interestingly, like an
anachronist artist, with long hair. He said, ‘ Yes, finish my shift too, twelve hours.’
He asked my destination, ‘It’s not too far’, I replied, ‘two stops, fortunately, that’s it.’
‘Good for you. I am going to the final stop, then change to the bus,
which is thirty minutes more.’ He said and looked ahead of him, drowsily, and rested.
I watched for a while. He looked for a good man, like a teacher or an actor; a gentle, friendly
My stop arrived, and my book closing in my hand, I went to the door and watched back
‘Have a good journey and night.’ I said to him. ‘You too my friend, and God bless you.’
He answered and smiled in a friendly. From the window he watched me. He was a rare soul.
God Bless You!

Where the Sea Curves

The ocean
caresses her hips.
The sea loves her shape,
her curves are its curves.

Sipping a cold coke
watching a gang
of ogling young men.

A flowing tide
slips from her brown skin
almost reluctantly.

The boys are waving,
the sea is waving,

inwardly,
interestingly,
(at my age),
I am surfing a high crest,
and easily riding above
her incoming hips.

CUP OF TEA

You like being about the business of others,
Some don't.
You don't like good music,
Some do, just like me.
You don't spending time with nature,
Some do just as much as I love to.
You like clubbing and partying,
Well, some don't.
You like eating this,
Some don't.
You don't like eating that,
Interestingly, some do.
You like your tea hot,
Some don't.
You don't like your tea cold
Well, some do.
You like this,
Some don't.
You don't like that
Some do.
We all have our preferences in life.
I might take your cup of cold tea and spew it,
You might take my cup of hot tea and get your tongue burnt.
So as you go about your everyday life, I hope you enjoy your cup of tea,
As I seat here sipping my own cup of tea.

Premium MemberThe Outsiders

In a world that rushes,
we step back,
disengaging from the flow
to observe, to reflect,
often choosing not to engage,
but to understand.

We, the outsiders,
interestingly disinterested,
bring a different lens,
a quiet strength,
contributing in ways unseen,
yet profoundly felt.

For the world needs us,
those who walk alone,
to bridge the gaps,
to offer new perspectives,
to remind the world
of the beauty in stepping back.

The renowned Columbia professor, Edward Sa’id
influenced many thousands in thought and in deed

Pre-1970, Edward told us he was Lebanese Christian, interestingly
Post-1970, he was suddenly a Palestinian Arab refugee

From my Dartmouth days, 1968 - 72, I remember how prominent
and revered a figure Prof. Sa'id was in both academia and on the
   international political scene... Infuriating!

Premium MemberSee Me

See Me
I want, desperately, to Impress
Why
I don't know why
Hmm
I just, despairingly, want to Impress
I, sincerely, wish you knew why
Why, pray tell
So, interestingly, I may want to Impress too
Oh, my dear friend...
Yes, buddy
It, unfeigned, has to come from within
That, undoubtedly, makes sense
Sure, unequivocally, it does
If not, unwavering, from within
It, unmistakably, doesn't matter
Yes, but...
But what
But, dear confidant, if I don't...
Yes, you're on to something
Feel it from within...
Yes
And I, forlorn, strive to Impress anyway...
Yes, almost there...
Then, sadly, I'm not happy...
Yes, say it goddamn it
With who I am
Yes, I'm Impressed

Avatar in Stone

Set in stone,
yet eyes watered.
The green face
looks through a small window
of time and art.

It was a slow process, a natural one,
the carved features, once handsome,
had been weathered and worn.

Patina had painted, moss molded,
rain and sun,
and the artful strokes
of ever-changing seasons
had wrought a deeper character

He remains,
not ruined, more interestingly odd,
enigmatic
the way most living statues are.

Social critic and novelist Charles Dickens -
The plot of his every book so interestingly thickens!
Not only the creator of Scrooge was he;
He revived the Christmas spirit for you and for me.

Premium MemberOn Armchair Politicians

Armchair politicians always provoke a laugh
Spouting what they would do if they could,
I’m supposing they’d never make a bad gaffe
The world would go as they think it should.
They have the answer to every bad situation
Many years of practicing amateur diplomacy,
Interestingly, they have little valid information
Yet, are sure they could make better history.

I tend to leave affairs in the hands of experts
Who have the real scoop and lots of advising,
Day by day handling things, not in little spurts
Not on questionable rumors plans devising.
This isn’t to say I believe they’re never wrong
But admitting they know far better than me,
I hum tunes, but they know lyrics to the song
So, as best as I can, I avoid criticizing, you see.

A Place To Relive

A Place To Relive

Spaces are berated
People are finders and keepers
Interestingly there is always a place to relive
Whether in your heart or the memories
Just make them count
For you are the maker of what makes you feel free
A place to relive is where we all find solace
And I find it in the times of everyday inspiration

Premium MemberOn Writing Poetry

If I but had the basic raw nerve and wit
I would show a few folks how to do it:
“Write a line or two with good rhythm and rhyme”
On Poetry Soup, however, that would be a crime!
We have some folks who write marvelous gibberish
If I may say, but, of course, I’m being somewhat devilish;
On the other hand, I have tried to understand their verse
Reading them frequently, they’ve gotten worse and worse!
Interestingly, they are convinced they write like William Shakespeare,
But truth is, nothing about their poorly-written, so-called, poetry is clear,
Misspellings, poor syntax, and lack of a discernible theme
Well, now, they make me throw up my hands and scream!
May I suggest, if you are remotely caring, get up to speed
Please, take time to read some great master poets, indeed!
This is a poetry site, or so I have been led to believe
And, with effort, writing good lines is easy to achieve.
Tossing random words onto a page willy-nilly
And calling it poetry, is simply plain silly!
