The Voice In His Head, Part II

...It was maybe ten years later,
as I slept in my bed,
that all sorts of infernal things
seemed to possess my head.
A procession of cruel demons
that long ago had fell,
and above them, the Morningstar,
damnable price of Hell.
They taunted me with cries that pierced,
burned me with fetid breath,
portrayed my sins before my eyes,
said, “You deserve but death!”
There was no escaping that fact,
so much had I done wrong,
the Devil said, “This is my world,
and with me you belong.”
But then I heard the Voice again,
“Ignore what he may say,
this fool challenged the Throne before,
his fall was child’s play.”
His voice sent demons scattering,
His words were holy writ.
“I paid your debts up on that cross,
fear not, ’cause I’ve got this…”

" When the Soul wants to experience
something she throws out an image
in front of her and then steps into it."
Meister Eckhart

Little bits
spin off like sparks
from a grinding wheel,
as if you are
being honed to fit
the dimentions of
an ideal, the template
of a saved soul.

Sometimes too much
is taken off, ground down
to where the will
is compromised into
a compliant automaton,
flesh stripped back
to gears.

And the lie is sanctified
as holy writ,
god becoming little more
than a product
pumped out of the factories
of earthly prophets.

Premium MemberGetting Familiar With Divine Treasure

How does one get to know the Bible?
the same you get to know friends
by spending real time with them
so you become the real spiritual blend

No matter the years you've lived
you can't sit back being complacent
for the scriptures will find you out
leaving you down in the basement

Like a herb when it's in full flavour
God provides enlightenment of light
making the clarity of scripture so real
discipleship takes you in full flight

When you become more familiar
with holy writ, there's a new dimension
for this divine word reveals a treasure
to you far hidden never a mention

But now God reveals in His word
His purpose to push your sanctification
gifting His treasure to you a sinner
transforms you with real ramifications

("To get the full flavour of an herb, it must be pressed between the fingers, so it is the same with scriptures, the more familiar they become, the more they reveal their hidden treasures and yield their indescribable riches.")
John Chrysostom (A.D. 347-407)

Premium MemberThe Lord Is My Portion - Psalm 119: 57-64

What a blessed privilege to know
that I have a portion which is the Lord
the best part I could ever truly have
for He gives me His mighty strong sword

This sword is His mighty inerrant word
my life is secure when I keep it
Lord, with my whole heart, seek thy favour
keep your promise to me so I don't quit

My mind thinks often of your testimonies
for my ways need be as your way
immediately hearing from you I obey
knowing your blessing comes without delay

The wicked seek to draw me in
help me never to forget your law
rise early to bring praise to you
for your righteousness will so draw

My companions are filled with godly fear
in your word, they dwell day and night
look out and see God's perfect love
be taught in holy writ for it's divinely right

(This is my " Psalm 119 project" which I began to write a couple of years ago, so this is the eighth poem of twenty-two poems I've written over that time to cover all of Psalm 119.)

Premium MemberScared No More

Fearfully scared of truth on bottomless pit
awaiting me with its enclosing darkness, forever unlit ---
my soul succumbed to confession of nervousness whit
especially that I was guilty of iniquity’s blowing hit…
grateful to God for His compassion declared by holy writ
I clung to Him by faith; cleaved to His offered grace to make me spiritually fit.

Horrified by frightening wrath of terrifying hell*
along awful worms that die not in the lake of fire as well
surpassing eerie Halloween shows with unnerving bell ---
my heart, at first skeptic, admitted shock for eternal torment’s swell
I trusted the Lord for reaching me so in heaven I can dwell…
now, His love I gladly share; His warning, I’m not scared to tell.

*Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Manifesto, the Real

Break away,
If your leg is drawing you back
From moving forward,
Cut it off, says the Holy Writ.
Your guts will be your support!

The relationship you have
With your yourself is complicated;
It's complex, you can't ignore it,
You can't run away:
It's stuck with you!

The horizon is set and clear,
Life has a chain tied to your leg,
Cut it if you must,
The blood becomes your ink
That trails you, leaving prints
On the cracked road of time...
...and after you are gone,
It keeps drawing you back
Echoing your name forever!

Follow the enlightened sun to its home,
Art is life, life is art...
Like fate, you can't outrun your leg!

He who must reap, must sow!
Look beyond the sunset ahead,
After it comes dawn...
Let your ink flow, leaving marks
On your patched pathway...

In the Bible On My Shelf

They say that in the Holy Land so very far away
there really are SAMARITANS, who to the present day
at Eastertide or then abouts ..but wait! Who comes our way?
Some long-haired Wanderer, I've guessed,
but let US listen for a JESt to what HE has to say!

"My names are one and many,to some I was JIM CROW.
'GOOD AFRICAN" is what you'll write if you should choose to know."
"My name was Sean O'Hara, your NEIGHBOR from the FALLs.
GOOD MAN, put down that rifle before the thing reCOILS."
"My name is Isaac Mandelbaum, your face I mark it true.
It is most clear that you should write quite simply ''THE GOOD JEW'."

You are an actor, I perceive, but me you'll not take in.
To change the words of Holy Writ would be a grievous sin.
I'm sure it says SAMARITAN in the bible on my shelf,
but if you do not believe me Sir, go read the text yourself.

Premium MemberFever Dream

One nation under all
founded for a single cause
this is the mantra that resides
in the minds of simple folk

this passion above all else
so say the pundits to themselves
the holy writ applied across
imaginations in the now

this becomes the fervent lie
by the ones who reside
in the boxes built with walls
from the delusion of the mind

uniformity becomes the joke
denying nature of its course
reality will have a say
disallowing the fever dream.

Premium MemberIncels Cult

Pardon me if I disbelieve
that bumping ugly is still a thing
even though the evidence
states quite the opposite
the fair practices once pursued
enjoyment of the lovely views
are now lost to distant days
spawned from acts that cured malaise

purity is circumscribed
by a god in holy writ
even as adherents longed
for the same as lust implores
indulgence taken in the flesh
look to the testament that came before
there the needs were clearly met
taunting me as consequence

to consider religion’s rules
this slows few with dire decrees
company found without clothes
for the sake of coitus’ charm
a convent would be the home
suited for my dearth of joy
there the belief would support
the nothingness of incel’s cult.

Succor

Each galling ache with steadied prayer dispel.
Let that bland hour bleak with chilling thought
Glow with indelible joys of a yet hoping heart,
And knit such merry smiles as cute angels got.

Hold onto that time-tested unswerving dream
That martyrs' sorrows will just retribution find,
That her sweat and blood and echoed scream,
Shall not unavenged in giddied labyrinths wind.

Often hit by a gloating stare and its acid taints,
Hum within a great carol by famed fallen saints.
In your mean travails attended with dizzying pains,
Trust the holy writ that man’s sorrowing soul trains.

Even as false signs dupe that relief roams far,
May your woe-stoutened faith persist unshorn.
If the only light offs into the lowest horizon-line,
Remember the darkest hour is closest to dawn.

Soon shall the mourning soul’s sobbings cease,
For deepest angst precedes profoundest peace.

Premium MemberConvicted Heart

My heart*, wholly convicted by God’s holy writ
Earnestly confesses its stubborn arrogance
Humbly acknowledging haughtiness’ engagements
Abased against futile glory-seeking pursuits.

This heart is now open to the Lord’s scrutiny
Surrendered for His gracious sanctification
Believing that nothing is hidden from His eye
Since He alone discerns the minutest intents.

With my cleansed, pardoned heart, I worship my Saviour
Esteeming Him with gratitude’s joyful praises
By His tender mercy and gracious compassion
Here’s my yielded heart, willing to serve with faith’s might.

*Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Premium MemberLucky Me, I'M Free

For three days, Pentecost weekend, no bells will ring
For seventy-two hours, no devices will ping
No TV's blaring, no family member daring
to tinker with electricity, neither adjusting nor repairing

No Facebook, No Linked-in, No Instagram
No Texts, No Snapchat -- No What's App, Ma'am
No driving, no riding, neither train, bus, or plane
No elevator, no escalator, no hot water down the drain

No oven, no stove, no light in the refrigerator
No strenuous activity, no wrestling green gators
For three days, I'll be with my family and friends
In synagogue and at home is where time I will spend

Three glorious days, free of distractions
  with tried-and-true friends the attraction
Delving into the Holy Writ Moses penned
~ My eternal soul shall I labor to mend

Premium MemberHeavenly Wisdom

Godly wisdom working my spirit…
Such I need to glorify the Saviour with grace
While He molds me by His holy writ
Toward fruitful stewardship of faithfulness’ brace.

Heavenly wisdom* propelling my devotion…
Such I thank God for with praise-filled worship
While He guides me according to His instruction
Toward compassionate ministry-deeds midst His fellowship.

*James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Premium MemberThe Sin of Unbelief

There was a time when I disbelieved
in the true sense of what it's to believe
I knew not of the true living God
in this state, my soul could only grieve

But God was faithful never giving up
revealing himself in the person of His Son
this son of God is revealed in holy writ
the Lord Jesus Christ the saviour bar none

I thank God for the conviction of my sin
in my heart thinking what can I do?
the gospel which I never had heard
then in the mid-20s I heard this is true

This was such a revelation to receive
realising to not believe brings death
needing spiritual birth to truly believe
God is sovereign even to our very breath

Now for 37 years, I've followed Jesus
the one who loves me fully without measure
He went to Calvary's cross paid for my sins
setting me free to believe on my treasure
