It was not so
It was not so
Before the invasion of the vultures
In those days
When being black makes us thick
When our communion whispers across oceans
When our ties thrust distrust
When our dreams were dreams
When our groans frighten their gods
When our cowries outweigh their currencies
But now,
The invasion of the vultures
Mocked our mores
Crucified our tradition with their crusades
Barter our black gem for arms
Conscript our angels into prostitution
Littering our minds with the doctrines of servitude
It was not so
With their holy writ they stabbed us
It was not so
Before the invasion of the Vultures.

So let me tell you somethin',
Let me let you know how I feel.
You can learn more from a plant
than a god who isn't real.
If you gotta burn somethin'
then go and burn a church.
'Cause if you burn a book
then it's murder in the first.
Who are you to say that a thought must die?
Who are you to say how I educate my mind?
Just like in your holy writ,
Metaphorically blind,
Go destroy someone else
who's unsaved and you're fine.
You can preach out of your mouth,
But then you act from your behind.
You are all compared to sheep,
and you don't even seem to mind.
Careful what you wish for,
because you never can tell.
You know that there's a heaven,
but really hope that there's a hell.
Hope that there's a place where the suffering is real.
Well let me ask you something.
Let me know how you feel.
If you all are right,
who do you want to be there?

Living in Christ Jesus is not all easy
for there's fighting going on inside
even though the holy spirit's living in
the old sinful nature still there to abide
This is the ultimate war of all
where sin must be rooted out
so Jesus gives you the victory
in obedience to holy writ no doubt
The greatest fight is in the mind
make every thought captive to Christ
giving no room for any sinful seed
cut it at it's root so won't be enticed
Fill the mind all that's good
keep it active with all that's pure
show yourself one approved to God
for His grace brings a certain cure
Set your goal to glorify your Lord
give no place for the flesh to rule
be truly spiritual focus on Jesus alone
for when you do then you're no fool
('We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,' 2 Corinthians 10: 5
'See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.' Colossians 2: 8)

In this world of toil and strife
standing for Jesus no easy task
but He never said to would be
His strength’s sufficient when we ask
God has promised to be with us
in all of life both bad and good
He is our mighty strong tower
learn this well with right attitude
Believe with conviction His true word
stamp your life upon it as your blueprint
never move an inch from God’s truth
more precious than even the royal mint
No matter what consequences come your way
put your feet firmly on the divine holy writ
the Lord will honour you in your trial
making sure He’ll make you a spirit filled fit
In that hour God will be your peace
holding you still knowing His power
He’ll be your friend in time of trial
giving you grace whatever the hour

scratch, scratch
strike a match
throw it in
and burn the batch
lies, lies
an orphan cries
loveless words
made to despise
scare, flare
from here to there
likely tale
that goes nowhere
books, cooks
bishops, rooks
games played now
by saints and crooks
lies, flies
a prophet dies
holy writ
as moon star rise
reason, season
almost treason
heralding in
a winter season
lies, lies
death and flies
loveless beast
in light’s disguise
wake, shake
the sleeping snake
light and truth
reveals the fake

There was a time when I disbelieved
in the true sense of what it's to believe
I knew not of the true living God
in this state, my soul could only grieve
But God was faithful never giving up
revealing himself in the person of His Son
this son of God is revealed in holy writ
the Lord Jesus Christ the saviour bar none
I thank God for the conviction of my sin
in my heart thinking what can I do?
the gospel which I never had heard
then in the mid-20s I heard this is true
This was such a revelation to receive
realising to not believe brings death
needing spiritual birth to truly believe
God is sovereign even to our very breath
Now for 37 years, I've followed Jesus
the one who loves me fully without measure
He went to Calvary's cross paid for my sins
setting me free to believe on my treasure

Pope Francis's belief in the Almighty
has been brought to serious question,
when, on his speech on Origins,
the Bible received nary a mention -
save for a passing glance at Genesis.
His credibility has dwindled rather perilous
it seems - considering, of course, Catholicism's
typical rep of condemning holy writ to ostracism.
The acolytes "explode" with his
acceptance of Naturalism,
Evolution and Bigbangerism.
In a pinch he waved his magician's wand
and pronounced all prior blasphemies - gone!
God - he stated - has no such pointy stick
of which to create all, with a simple flick
of his wrist. The Almighty has limits
and shall conform to Francis's rigid
interpretation, thereof. He tips his hat
in one last show of priestly decorum:
I wish you all a most bless-ed
novus ordo seclorum.
NOTE: The term "novus ordo seclorum" is Latin for "New World Order". If you ever forget how to say it, or spell it, just pick up any American federal reserve note - it'll be right under the pyramid with the all-seeing eye.

James is my name with its historic meaning
An important king bore this name
Carrying it to its royal fame,
One reason why this name I’m esteeming
King James gave us the Bible in English
For which I am so proud
I say the words low or loud
But I could never speak Yiddish.
In the holy writ, more than one person shared
This name so renowned.
Oh, how she loved its sound ,
The name Mama always declared.
My uncle called me by a nickname;
He wanted to call me Jim
But Mama had words with him
She told him that JAMES is my name.
So family and friends, all my life,
Called me what Mom named me,
For that was her earnest plea.
Substitutes pierced her like a knife.
But I had a livelihood and bread to win
There, co-workers gave me a moniker
For which they would prefer—
They called me Jimmy or simply Jim.
Other aliases have been most replete,
Such as Whimpy, and Daneymoco,
Else, a-k-a, Hey You, or Jimbo.
Regardless, I will always come to eat.

The difference between
the carnal and the spiritual,
has as much to do with
convictions as does visuals.
The Carnal's favorite epithet:
I will believe in it when I see it.
Living as a mere fleck in the universe
his chances of vision grow steadily worse.
While Spiritual cling to holy writ:
I will see it because I believe it.
With the number of faiths available,
all options, it seems, are on the table.
NOTE: Another oldie that I've never showed before ...

Grook
Spare me ill-considered thoughts
and tales of the enlightened sage
whose very basis of belief
arose in palpable assemblage
one late summer evening
while listening to his ringing ears,
as he lay soaking naked in a tub.
And holy writ of nether world—
its commands and promises
now in language thrice removed—
misunderstood when first uttered
in scarce remembered ancient tongue,
yet presumptive literal masters
hasten to opine.
Absurdities compound,
interstices of mind—
vacuformed and stolid—
deny calm reason’s abstract,
and flee truth’s sanctum,
dogma in their fond embrace,
awash in its decrepitude.
Humanity thus
in thrall of Mesmer’s haunt
sustains a tortured cadence
of greed, dishonesty and graft,
which now in tawdry bloat ascends,
as if arms of gods on the empyrean sphere
would open wide to greet.
Consider well and ponder such severely,
who would transcend the veil,
for wisdom gained and love prolonged
will surely ease the transit.
And those who favored having over being?
Their cherished worth is fled.
Their hubris now dismissed.

Free verse
O Lord my God full of mercy and truth
I humbly come to you to seek your face
pleading your forgiveness and redemption
in emptiness I come to your amazing grace
Teach me Lord to be on my knees
reverently in godly fear speaking prayer
learning to listen to your still small voice
hearing you clearly is like clear morn air
Give me a mind for real study
make your word implanted in my heart
help me meditate upon it real deep
so your holy writ pierce me like a dart
Provide me with all spiritual weapons
to fight off the devils deadly attack
help me to stand strong against him
clothed in Christ’s righteousness no lack
Make me faithful to the end
holding forth your word divine
no matter what hold me close
Having that assurance you’re mine
O Lord fill me up with yourself
make me true to you as my friend
give me your holy approval in Christ
to walk in your steps I ask, Amen!
(Study to show yourself approved to God’) 2Timothy 2: 15)

They say that in the Holy Land
so very far away
there really are SAMARITANS
who to this very day
at Eastertide, or round that time,
but wait, who comes our way?
Some long-haired wandering type, I'd guess
but let us listen for a jest
to what he has to say.
"My names are one and many,
to some I was Jim Crow,
GOOD AFRICAN is what you'd write
if you should choose to know."
"My name is Sean O'Hara,
your old neighbor from the Falls,
GOOD MAN, put down that rifle
before the thing recoils."
"My name is Isaac Mandelbaum.
Your face I mark it true.
It is so clear that you should write
quite plainly THE GOOD JEW."
You are an actor, do admit,
but me you'll not take in.
To change the words of Holy Writ
would be an grievous sin.
I'm sure it says SAMARITAN
in the Bible on my shelf,
but if you do not believe me, Sir,
go read the text yourself.

Didactic
Now the altar has ripped
The pages off the holy writ
And has forced it down
The throats of the thirsty pew.
They came like flock
On a pasture looking for water
To quench their thirst;
But have been given vegetable oil.
What is left of the Son
Is just an empty cross
Hanging or
Drawn on the massive walls
By a pagan artist.
The greasy haired preacher
With his imported accent,
Has stunned God again and again.
And in the chapel
Just like in a stinking cattle farm,
The cows are impenitently milked
And God looks on in utter shock.

Blank verse
Fearfully scared of truth on bottomless pit
awaiting me with its enclosing darkness, forever unlit ---
my soul succumbed to confession of nervousness whit
especially that I was guilty of iniquity’s blowing hit…
grateful to God for His compassion declared by holy writ
I clung to Him by faith; cleaved to His offered grace to make me spiritually fit.
Horrified by frightening wrath of terrifying hell*
along awful worms that die not in the lake of fire as well
surpassing eerie Halloween shows with unnerving bell ---
my heart, at first skeptic, admitted shock for eternal torment’s swell
I trusted the Lord for reaching me so in heaven I can dwell…
now, His love I gladly share; His warning, I’m not scared to tell.
*Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Holy writ - Inspired script,
Psalms divine and witty,
Fills the righteous with pearly mirth
And promises wrath to the uncouth,
Taught me aphorisms pithy-
And guides me along the right paths!
