Notes About The Poem

From Friday evening through Monday night, the Sabbath and the Pentecost (Feast of Weeks) will be observed by faithful Jews the world over...

Lucky Me, I'M Free

For three days, Pentecost weekend, no bells will ring
For seventy-two hours, no devices will ping
No TV's blaring, no family member daring
to tinker with electricity, neither adjusting nor repairing

No Facebook, No Linked-in, No Instagram
No Texts, No Snapchat -- No What's App, Ma'am
No driving, no riding, neither train, bus, or plane
No elevator, no escalator, no hot water down the drain

No oven, no stove, no light in the refrigerator
No strenuous activity, no wrestling green gators
For three days, I'll be with my family and friends
In synagogue and at home is where time I will spend

Three glorious days, free of distractions
  with tried-and-true friends the attraction
Delving into the Holy Writ Moses penned
~ My eternal soul shall I labor to mend

That's not a bad practice, we should all take a day off of the world and fulfill our soul's needs. Quite a beautiful poem; well penned.

Why not try it (ditching the devices and focusing on the soul) every Sabbath?! That's what the day was made for, after all...And it really works. Multitudes will testify that one comes away refreshed. Thank you for your insightful observation and support, M.L. :) gw

Be blessed dear friend - your faith is music to the ear - and imagine no gadgets tinkling or blinking - what bliss! Warm wishes and hugs, Jennifer.

Yup, no pings; no dings. The quiet is such a pleasure. Almost like it is out in the country, sans the glistening sky. :) gw

How you have enticed me to do something similar. Three years would not be long enough to do this. Shutting off all of those things would be bliss to me. Sending you encouragement to have the best time ever with your family and friends.

Ha, Ha. You have really tickled my funnybone, Caren. After three days, I confess that I've had enough of life 'in Paradise,' and can't wait to partake of such simple joys in life as a warm shower or a telephone call to a loved one. :) gw

What a blessed relief to be away from all the distractions of the modern age. To focus the mind on spiritual matters, and meditate upon the word of God.

I really appreciate the straightforward honesty leading to the spiritual conclusion. Gives the simplicity depth and meaning, which seems to be the point after all.

Thank you so much, Faith Ellen, for your sincere, heartfelt comment. I think that it is right on the button, and I hope that doesn't make me sound like (too much of) a braggart. Wishing you all the best, Gershon
