Never been to Norway
nor to Finland or Sweden
After all, my wife Eve and I
left the Garden of Eden

Oh, True Inspiration! Where have you been
Can't you see the abominable shape my poetry's in
Bring back the celebration, the excitation
the fascination, the transformations
Huh? Whuss that? You're on permanent vacation?
Oh, well. Ho-hum. Back to 'social justice agitation'

I was going to write a nice little poem
all about love, beauty, etcetera - an anthem
but cheery words simply would not come
instead, a sad song I just started to hum
now, I am feeling rather down and glum
– ho hum!

Ho hum, the doldrums:
I twiddle my thumbs
and scratch my bum.
I bumble ‘round,
and when I’m done,
I murmur, mumble, humph and hum.
Ding-dong, the same old song:
I bang my drum
and clang my gong;
I even brought
my bell along.
Tinkle, ting, naw, that’s just wrong.
Tick tock, flip flop
My brain is oozing
gloopy glop.
That metered click:
where is my glock?
Bang! that clock and make it stop!
Pitter pat, what’s that you say?
Rin tin, rain on the roof today!
I’ll squish and splosh and dance and play
and splash those doldrums right away!

i look at life from the side
i am always wrong
i look at life while perfectly centered
i am still always wrong
i look at life at a right side view
i am definitely wrong on that end
i look at life at a left handed view
things begin to become a bit clearer, but i am still thrown curve balls and strike out
totally exhausted and fully burnt out, i chalk it all down to lessons learned and call it a day
tomorrow i start it all over again, and the irregularly rhythmic beat goes on

Santa's lost his Ho Ho Ho!
Where did Santa's Ho Ho Ho go
Did it fall from his sleigh?
When Rudolph yelled out Hey!,
Stop Santa was Blitzens call,
Saying,
Did you not see them fall,
When you hit that chimney wall?
Santa, could you please drive slow,
So we may find your Ho Ho Ho!

Ho-hum, another war lost
We should have won
Our new partner for peace ~ the Taliban
Ho-hum, a new school year
First semester's curriculum
Learn whom to FEAR
Ho-hum, we're going all-electric
While 'Mr. Green President'
Begs Russia ~ Pump more oil! Protet us!
Ho-hum, California burns
The no-win solution
Gavin Newsome returns
Ho-hum, Chicago's locked down
No, it's not Covid
It's a murderous town
Ho-hum, soaring inflation
I can still sleep ~ My paycheck's
Indexed to tax machinations
Ho-hum, another day closer
To beckoning the invading hoardes
Come over ~ Here are the keys ~ Take over

Raining again, paper, pen,
switch on the kettle, sigh again.
Bread in the toaster, egg in the pan,
Dear sir or Madam, I don't think I can
write this missive, explaining circumstance,
it's too near the knuckle, to your tune I won't dance.
I'll just have my breakfast and give it a while,
whilst I just sit here, reminisce and smile.
Imagining you there, buttering your toast,
but I think that the one thing that I miss the most
is the look of satisfaction when you sipped your first drink.
Weak coffee, lots of milk, with two sweeteners, I think,
but life goes on and things must be sorted.
The tax man, work and pensions all must be courted,
letters to write and forms to fill,
the humdrum of life, you know the drill.
But where on the form do you put the hurt?
Or that you still smell her perfume on your best shirt?
That you look at photos each waking hour
or reminisce fondly over an old pressed flower?
That a lifetime of love and living together
can be compressed in the form of a letter?
So I'll just sup my coffee, look out the window and dream,
leave the letter unwritten and add some more cream.

Got up and went to work, ho-hum
Ran errands on the way home, hum-drum
Grabbed a beer and a bite of dinner, ho-hum
Checked out the news online, hum-drum
Called my sister in L.A., ho-hum
Deleted some emails, hum-drum
Played a couple of video games, ho-hum
Caught the end of the ball-game, hum-drum
What have I done to myself
What have I made of my life
Where do my kids fit into all this
And what about my loyal wife
Is endless routine a life well-lived
Don't I have so much more to give

Here's yours and thanks for mine
Candy bars are so benign
For vibrating sex toys do we pine
~ And for an extra treat, a bottle of wine

Had a Ho Hum Attitude
My friend could tell from his first glance
I had a ho hum attitude full of happenstance
After being to the point yet matter of fact
And in each poem myself I would enact.
Always true to form Terry could tell
Then from him often I would catch hell
Instead of me being a poetry derelict
Terry decided to declare an eloquent edict.
You see Terry was continually getting his fill
Of my many poems being run of the mill
So this poem to my poetry friends am sending
Knowing that you will have thoughts of amending.
My poems have rhythm like a beating drum
And various walks of life you may come from
Sometimes sending an email being scary
Electing to say my poem was extraordinary.
Been out in heat watering flowers too long
What is it with my brain which went wrong?
Even using six words with w's in same line
How it happens to be a Horn Poem of mine.

Well today it finally happened
The day I dreaded most
I just found a poet
Who could out poet me, oh woe
He just came to visit
To help check out my mind
And when he left he suggested
Where he thought I should go
I just couldn't stand it
I had to take the chance
And what I found has put me
In this bed for life
You say you can't believe me
You want to prove me wrong
Then got to Daniel Larson
And look up 'Going, Going, Gone'
Here let me give you a hint
His poem is on page 66
Whoops sorry that's Route 66
I'll try once more
His poem is on page 44
Whoops wrong again
That's Sonic Route 44
At last I think I have it you see
His poem is on page 3
