I love but I hate

I love creating art, it is my passion,
But I hate the amount of time it takes to create even one piece.
I love learning in school,
Though I hate how exhausted it makes me.
I love dogs,
But I dislike the smell when they come inside after it rains.
I love learning new recipes when cooking,
But I hate the burns from the boiling hot pans I receive in return.
I love going riding on roller coaster rides,
But I hate the tummy ache it gives me afterwards.
I love colorguard,
But I hate the money it drains from me.
I love having everything I need with me at school,
But I hate having to carry it all.
I love my mother,
But I hate when she has to be a parent.
I love my cats,
But I hate when they pee on my clothes.

Premium MemberWe Can Change

I well remember 'yesterday'.
I am experiencing 'today'.
I have great expectations
and hopes for 'tomorrow',
BECAUSE I HAVE LEARNED
THAT WE CAN CHANGE.

When as a child, my playmates
and I watched the clouds turn
grey and the sunlight go away,
we played in the barn on the
hay and plated the Maypole
in the Month of May.

When once upon a time in my
home state, it seemed to me
that hate poured down like
rain, flooding the human
landscape with pain. There
was enough misery to drive weak
ones insane, and no one gained.
BUT I LEARNED THAT WE CAN CHANGE.

When once upon a time I was ashamed
to mention my home state by name;
When I was reluctant to say where
I was from; and I dreaded to utter
the word 'Mississippi' upon my tongue.

Fortunately, that was once upon a time. I moved away after high school when I was 17; 58 years ago.
Since then there has been a changing of minds. I have
much gratitude to God, and I hasten to add, I AM CLEARLY SEEING A CHANGE.

Premium MemberNo Hate is Certainly Working

I was glad to escape the school run by demon spawn
thrilled to extricate myself from this hell-hole
disengage from a hateful situation
distangle myself from the mess they call normal
I am pretty sure the students feel the same way
Their “no hate” campaign is working.
Brain research shows that if you say “don’t climb that tree”
a person must picture themselves climbing the tree
before they can visualize not climbing the tree.”
No hate is certainly working.
I limped out of there in a listless spiritless way.
Unable to save anyone but myself.

Closure

I hate being the 'incident' of your story
Hate how you once made my heart beat so fast
Hate how I get a reminder of you
Now we're just strangers that sometimes walk past.

A memory I can't erase
Was getting dull with time
Life was getting back to it's pace
But a trigger by your sight, not my eye's crime.

Applauds to the courage
I didn't feel anything in
Left the road you were taking
Resisting the temptation of a possible sin.

The need of journeying back in time
Where your name stood unknown
As an arrogant, aggressive guy
Was what to me, was shown.

I hate being the one left behind the door
When you were the one knocking it first
Hate the time I spent foolishly
On you, now I just keep eyes on floor.

Premium MemberThe Teflon Kid

  Finding excuses, child’s play
    Just wish your mistakes away

Never a rainy day for you
    Compliments only and trophies too

You’re the best there ever was
At least that’s the ‘round here buzz’

You hit a friend smack in the jaw
Not to worry, no one saw

  Insulted your teacher after school
Her hands are tied, that’s the rule

You’re the Teflon kid we all love to hate
You’ll get yours someday, just wait…

American Future

We won’t remember 9/11
election fraud will be forgotten
school shootings will belong in the past
no one will talk about gun control
black, white, woman, man, illegal, homeless, rich or poor
old, young, gay, straight, native or cowboy
we will finally know equality
climate change will not be debated
Social Security and Medicare won’t be needed
all religions will bond together
the words Republican and Democrat will have no meaning
there will be no need for lies, no hate, no greed
no one will cry, fake news, fake hair, fake smile
the almighty dollar will lose its luster
no one will feel envy or jealousy
we will remember the value of prayer
no one will care about this poem
after they launch the thermonuclear warheads

Just One Picture

a picture
that was all you asked for
it will only take a minute you said
just a picture i say to myself

a picture that’s all it took
that’s all you wanted
it only took a minute
that was easy i say to myself

a picture that’s all it took to ruin everything
that’s all you need
it only took a second
why did you do it i cried

just a picture that you asked for
that followed me everywhere

my friends had the picture
your friends had the picture
everyone had the picture

you ruined my life
 with just one picture

Premium MemberWe All Make Mistakes

For God's sake, we all make mistakes
We all commit inmumerable errors
Nobody is perfect, everybody is under the sticks
Like the old days in the school of horrors
Where students are mistreated or beat with wires
With sticks, belts, whips, rigoises, batons and fires
Because they burn your skin when you get hit
It is a shame that kids got punished out of hate
Love never hurts, love triggers hope and success
Sometimes, we find ourselves in a mega mess.

We all make mistakes. Let's forgive and forget
Let's continue to move and pay the musty debt
To society. Apologies do not heal old internal
Wounds, but they help soothing the past blows
We all make mistakes. We must not be in denial
However, we must fight for better tomorrows
When we have thick skin, the sky is not the limit
There is a bright light and hope after every defeat.

Premium MemberNo Anchor For Rancour

"Learn to consider the source ... of rancour and
ignore. All tantrums don't require your reaction."

                           Quote by _Ibadidran Omo Akinde

I have spent my childhood the target of rancour,
malicious words like chains were my anchor.
Why are people like that ?
Sometimes, my only friend was my sweet kitty cat,
at school during lunch time- alone, I sat.
My words brought their rancour !

When I was a young woman I got much stronger,
I did not listen to the hatemonger.
Gone the chains that held me !
I was learning about who I wanted to be,
and saw resentful words as a sad plea.
Oh, get lost scaremonger !

Now, I am a writer of poetry- of life,
and yes still get hurt by life's stabbing knife.
But, am a tree rooted !
And when the venomous slither I press muted,
or lost in my mind- their words diluted.
Be still, not larger-than-life !

I feel sorry for the sad spiteful rancorous,
those people who get all cantankerous.
Why are people like that ?

Their Cage

Trapped in a cage,
Can't escape,
Like birds with wings, but chopped,
What all thought was gone, stopped,
Were like free birds,
In the sky they would fly,
But now they are in a cage,
If x = this what is y?
Just why?

Premium MemberFirearm Requiem

(In memory of the 19 children and two adults killed by gun violence in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, 2022…as well as the countless others who have and who will suffer similar fates.)

Firearm Requiem

By Mark Stucky
In the U.S., guns outnumber people
and sales outpace population growth.

Guns under beds.
Guns in closets.
Guns in cars.
Guns in trucks.
Guns in purses.
Guns in holsters.
Guns in forests.
Guns in offices.
Guns in classrooms.
Guns here.
Guns there.
Guns everywhere.
Guns pointing at them.
Guns pointing at me.
Guns pointing at you.

Why let so many fingers on so many triggers?
Why protect guns more than lives of children?
Why choose gun wrongs over gun laws?
Why is America the monarch of mass shootings?

Did gun rights come from Mt. Sinai,
written by God’s own fingers?
Did (not) guns (once again)
make America great(ly pained)?

When will we as a nation
collectively have courage
to save generational blood
and beat guns into plowshares?

Love and Hate

I love the smell of gasoline,
but I hate filling up my gas tank.
	I love riding my motorcycle,
but I hate getting off afterwards.
	I love my dog Macaroni,
but I hate that I can’t take him everywhere with me.
	I love learning new things,
but I hate going to school.
I love getting dressed up for parties,
but I hate actually going to them.
I love eating as much food as I can,
but I hate feeling full after.
	I love Grey’s Anatomy,
but I hate crying over it.

I Hate Me

why was i even born
my teachers like me
my friends like me
even think i’m funny

but my mom hates me
she hates me
she thinks i’m a burden
and that i’m a bad kid

she wishes i was never born
she never said that
she sees my face and want to hurt me
she said that

i cry myself to sleep
i don’t do anything right
i have bad skin
and a bad body

i like school
i see my friends
i do good in class
i get on the bus and i’m sad

i hate home
i walk through the door
i have something to do
i can’t relax

only time i relax is when i’m on the bus
or when i die
so why was i born
i sometimes wish i weren’t

another reason my mom hates me
i dont understand why she had me
if she only wants to hate me
she loves my older siblings
and my younger sister
so why can’t she love me

why am i so unlovable
everyone loves me
she hates me
i hate me

Premium MemberHalf-Mast

Old Glory’s at half-mast today.

I wonder who just passed away?

Was it a hero from some battles past?

A dead leader whose influence lasts?

Were servicemen killed overseas,

Or humanitarians died fighting a disease?

Seems most of the time I don’t know why

The Colors only at half-mast fly.

More and more it seems to be

The flag’s mourning some local tragedy:

A lunatic shooter with a gun or rifle

Killed innocents for some reprisal;

Or people contemplating suicides

Go out committing multiple homicides.

I think the worst is killing schoolchildren.

Will this obscene madness never end?!

I Hate the Things I Hate About Summer

I love summer time,
But I hate being drenched in sweat.
I love being tan,
But I hate laying out.
I love not having school,
But I hate being bored.
I love swimming,
But I hate getting chlorine in my eyes.
I love tubing on the lake,
But I hate the burns that find a home on my elbows.
I love sleeping in,
But I hate sleeping my day away.
I love being outside,
But I hate the bugs that come with it.
I love summer time,
But I hate the things I hate about it.
