beneath the boughs of meter's grace
a whispered rhythm finds its place
each word a spark a fleeting flame
a whispered echo of beauty’s name
rhyme steps lightly hand in hand
with time it weaves a golden strand
it dances in couplets bold and free
binding thought to melody
imagery blooms in the poet's mind
painting worlds both fierce and kind
a rose that bleeds a moon that sighs
the aching truth in lovers’ lies
meter marches steady and strong
the heartbeat of the poet's song
a drumbeat soft a thunderous roar
opening doors to worlds of lore
alliteration hums a gentle breeze
whispering secrets through the trees
consonants clash vowels sigh
crafting harmony low and high
yet free verse too a rebel's prose
finds beauty where the wild wind blows
unbound by rules yet tethered still
to passion's fire to the poet's will
the hallmarks shine a timeless art
a mirror held to the human heart
from sonnet's form to ballad’s sway
the soul of the poet leads the way
Cold blue tile is the foundation from which two children build their world.
This airport has seen thousands upon thousands of feet touching its ground,
but their travel-weary weight is erased
as toddlers run, screaming joyfully, over top.
Laughter bubbles from their tiny pink lips,
and I find I can’t help but join in.
Snow-blond hair and a green dino hoodie.
These are the hallmarks of those who herald cheer into the world,
though they’re not yet conscious of anything but their next step forward.
Hold tight to your vibrant visions of castles and ships for as long as you can, little ones.
Your light is precious. May it not be fleeting.
Snow continues toppling from darkling gray skies.
And by dusk, the flurries will bank on the ground.
Landscapes painted by Nature's hand, the artist
Hallmarks of winter ~
Embers turn to ash; darkness gives up the night.
Sunlight's shadows lengthen from pine and blue spruce.
Melting ice is dripping from gabled dormers.
Morning is frigid ~
Hushed, the silent world until creaking resounds
Footsteps crunch and crackle on beds of hoarfrost
Woolen scarves and mittens for warming cold hands
Sleigh rides o'er hill sides ~
As Space knows no true
vacuum – (in a vast sense
always exhibiting abundance of
space) -- so near Nature,

blessing and sin
unlike governments
always attempting to lump
pigeon-hole
engraving community hallmarks on its
peoples
though they have individual hearts
and individual souls --
Thunderous fighter birds,
loud torrential explosives,
blood thirsty Kalashnikovs,
monstrous and destructive tanks,
bloodshed by the river banks,
numerous catacombs interred,
dismembered bodies
on landscapes littered.
Vengeful hearts embittered,
countless tragedies,
misery corrodes like corrosives,
lawlessness without caution,
insanity without option,
hell is incessantly let loose,
for safety you may never choose.
Men of beastly testosterone
on vulnerable women predate.
Bastards are pervasively birthed;
the seed of hate and discord is sown.
Each course is decided by fate,
essentials are ravaged by dearth,
refugees to distant lands take flight,
as they hope that peace will be in sight.
Oh that men will cease to wage war!
Oh that men will peace adore!
Looking back, I cherish the memories,
Of the firehouse and my fellow colleagues.
The camaraderie, the shared experience,
The bonds we formed, will always make sense.
I found purpose in serving others,
In moments of strife, I discovered my true colors.
Selflessness, bravery, and dedication,
Are the hallmarks of our noble vocation.
So here's to our firefighters, the brave and true,
Who risk their lives, to protect me and you.
May their courage and strength, never waver,
For they are the heroes, who we must savor.
If only I had never met him!
I would still be in Chicago, afraid to say how I truly felt.
Yet, it got my family to heights, with cards we never were ever dealt.
I was raised to be a quiet, obedient child.
But he got me out of my warm, comfort zone.
And elope to the West Coast, which became our home.
I felt as though I were on another planet!
Poets, artists, musicians, did not have closed minds.
But were open to ideas, most would never abide.
Eloping in a blizzard at eighteen years of age!
Having high hopes and dreams was our intoxication.
Wanting to have no part of the conformist nation.
So many great people, he brought into our life.
Today our wedding anniversary, sixty- four years!
You died at thirty, our memories never washed away by tears.
Just wanted to say, thank you, I still love you, my dear.
And being able to use a poetic pen, without guilt or fear!
You freed me from the that jail, called “conformity.”
That nowhere place, hallmarks still..humanity. You
Love you forever,
Panagiota

We got married on his birthday,!
Dreadful masters of deceit at its creation
Censorship and fear, hallmarks, it’s inception.
You think, ah, that’s just ancient history?
As the news marches you happily into misery!
Race-baiting, how you love demonstrations!
Forgetting the lessons, the recriminations.
Skin color does not make you superior!
Just a slick word that justifies terror?
Into the night, you run, text and curse?
Making this planet, not better, just worse!

Such argumentation is clearly,…Fascist!

Signs of strength for having survived
Courage shown on which we have thrived
Aways reminding that human we are
Ready for life having made it this far
Scars are the beautiful hallmarks of life
The shepherd doth provide for my true needs,
And stills the waters, watches while I rest.
All to His glory, I go where he leads;
Refreshed my soul, for his right way is best.
Tho' shadows loom, death's stench engulfs the air,
Or evil's presence close enough to taste,
Corrected, guided, safely in his care,
My journey easy; there's no need for haste.
He thwarts my foes, their plans awash, disjoint,
He taunts them, lets me breathe deep while I eat.
A servant host, His oil my head anoints.
My cup, past full, my joy in Him complete.
His mercy, goodness: hallmarks of sweet days,
Eternal, in His presence, voicing praise.
Each of us is unique and has our own STORY.
I was never meant to be you, nor you to be ME.
Sometimes, the real you and me is what we want
Least for others to SEE. Being one's self is the closest
pathway to being FREE. But it's as if we are protecting
Ourselves from a stinging BEE. It's as if someone at the
Proper time forgot to give us the KEY; that key designed
To unlock the inner workings of our hearts and MENTALITY.
One would think it to be one of the hallmarks of CHRISTIANITY.
If that is the case, we must work harder in the pursuit of TRANPARENCY.
Perhaps time and maturity will show us the roadway to our DESTINY.
Perhaps our journey will UNFOLD the SCROLL before we become HISTORY.

**ICE CREAM SUMMER NIGHT**
Let’s go barefoot, when the stars come out tonight.
Sidewalks and streets, still warm from the sun’s delight.
Stop fretting, the sidewalks are really clean.....
Don’t forget, they are our natural grounding machine!
Look at all the cats, looking up at the full moon.
Whatever, are they thinking_I ponder the city of Rangoon!
I am starting to drool for raspberry toppings atop of vanilla!
Can I lick your caramel one, I know how it soothes ya!
Peace, serenity, joy are hallmarks of our town.
Existing here,well....impossibly hard to get down.
The cerulean light rays, peek at us from stars above.
Where everyday and night, we celebrate our blessed love!

Coming Back Home
Called home my nomadic heart yearns to unpack scattered shadows,
Ornaments of blue Orion winds and souvenirs of summer place passions,
Mirrors found in attic reflections - refraction's hallmarks of nostalgia,
Image mirages of battered milestones shed like outgrown skin -
Nests of hidden pleas and prayers in locked trunks as abandoned minutes -
Garlands of tangled seasons and dried bouquets.
Home awaiting unspoken future days when trying on again
Outgrown masks of jeopardy discarded - crannies of warm hearths -
Making room for nascent triumphs to tickle laughter no longer stooping
Even as my nomad heart wanders only to return in magic primal circles.
