There once was a lonely old poet,
Who wooed women with verses so know-it,
They’d smile and then say,
“You’re charming, dear ye,
But grandpa’s more apt—still, he’ll still show it.”

Return of the Bird: Grandpa Dairies

The doctor told us,
“He doesn’t have long left to live”.
He could say that again,
I already know,
So his voice to me is nothing but howling winds.
Blowing angrily,
Trying to devour my hopeful,
‘Maybe-pointlessly-so’ grin.

But really these are times we thought we’d grieve.

Sitting at the foot of his bed,
Just staring like this feeling

Grandpa the Master Magician

Grandpa the Master Magician

Grandpa was old and creaked
like a well-worn floorboard
but he always carried a smile with him
which generally won the day or the situation.
He had just spent time with his two grandchildren
which had added fun to his morning’s recipe.
They saw Grandpa as this master magician
capable of producing an egg from either nostril
..…. boiled

Premium MemberGRANDPAS PATH

Our cabin in North Carolina was built by Deborah’s mom and dad in 1983…
It rests on the side of a mountain…nestled in among the trees.

When Deborah’s dad was alive he had a garden terraced off at the bottom of the yard.
He built a pathway to this garden…to make the walk down there…not quite as hard.

This

The Shed

The Shed
...was Granddad's before he died.
And now its loneliness reached out to the boy
from the shaded, shuffling shadows
that shushed the sheltered garden.
They pulled, they tugged at his guilt-filled absence
until he slink-slunked through the greenery,
standing to attention outside its wooded frame.
It had been Grandad’s domain, his citadel,
built from leftover bits of wood and insulation
collected,

Premium MemberMisunderstanding for Grandpa

He is a crackshot I told his great-grandpa
Grandpa misheard; he thought I called him a crackpot
It took awhile for us to sort it out
In the meantime, grandpa was angry, showing a pout.
Not sure he ever fully understood
The beginning of dementia is never good.

Premium MemberHello Grandpa

What do you like about him? Her father asked.
He’s got a great smile, she said, sheepishly.
There was a giggle too, a tiny one.

He seems like a knucklehead to me, a dunce.
You have to get to know him, she told him.
I will try, he lied.

He had already seen enough of this guy.
a know-nothing, do-nothing.
he was not

Premium MemberA Gift to Grandpa

Today my grandson, the four year old one,
Gave me a gift more valuable than any other.
The fact he didn’t even know he gave it
Doesn’t make it any less precious,
In fact that lack of consciousness
Was the giving and the gift itself.

What he gave was insight,
A glimpse into his world
The natural non-dual experience of Life,
An effortless

Sun Rose

Three years ago was only yesterday:
at dawn I opened my eyes and the blinds.
Bouquets you'd left before you passed away;
those on my window daily I would find.

From your consideration my sun rose,
my very own, through those petals it shone.
It's hard to grasp in poetry or prose
how all you'd picked has taken root and grown.

Yours is

Premium MemberGRANDPA AT THE WEDDING

The wedding ceremony was over…the reception was well on it’s way…
when the grandfather took the newlyweds aside whispering,
“There’s something I’d like to say.”

“You will always remember this moment over which your love has cast its spell…
but my advice is to make sure you enjoy all the little moments of love as well.

Huge moments like today

Grandma's House

In Grandma's house it was always fun and gay,
It always was a sunny day,
Going through that old front door,
Grandma calling do you want some more,
Come and have a cup of tea,
Have a biscuit, no take three.

Grandpa is out by his pond.
Watching his goldfish of who he is very fond,
Auntie is there shelling peas,
And Grandma's made

Premium MemberOld Grandpa Cat

I'm just a sweet, old grandpa cat,
and now I love to stay inside.
When I was young, I never sat;
out in the fields, I'd hunt and hide.

My family that cares for me
has shown me how to simply live
an indoor life that keeps me free
to share with them in all they give.

I love my small and

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.” Rumi

Oils from my lantern of longing still burn,
as mamma constantly calls for you.
It's raining in mournful melodies,
serenading sorrowfully under moonlight melancholy,
as my tears reflect in a plethora of
