We secured the dogs in a chain link fenced pen
I was gobsmacked to see the puppy ten minutes later
How had he gotten out?
Like a convict he had tunneled out
In ten minutes making a hole under the gate
Big enough to squeeze out his eighty-two-pound body
A space ship could have fit into this hole!
What is he doing now?
I turned to see; he was tearing up the driveway.
This is a black asphalt driveway!
We called a company to fix it;
They were gobsmacked that a puppy had done this!

It came
quite unbidden.
A cancer diagnosis,
leaving the fitness enthusiast
gobsmacked.
The doctor mouths "I'm sorry," as
she's frozen in her chair;
tears trickling down
her cheeks.

Gobsmacked, Bamboozled and Confused
I was gobsmacked, bamboozled and confused
when they showed me worn out crayons never unused
for the lines they were destined to stay within
were taken as a challenge - not a whim
as the fists that clutched the colors misunderstood
the concept of the lines - “for their own good”
strayed with the exuberance of youth
opened up a crayon kissing booth
mingled the sunrise with the moon
served breakfast at the height of midnight noon
gobsmacked, bamboozled and confused
the crayons wandered happily bemused
across a barren landscape of pure snow
trailing behind them life’s rainbow

Gobsmacked, bamboozled and confused
— how to get one day back.
Imagine if one day was robbed of all its good and bad?
Perhaps a wedding, now she’s a virgin again-
he doesn’t remember the present he unwrapped last night.
Or a baby sucking its thumb back in the darkest womb -
what happened to the light?
You remember the terror of jaws chewing off your limb
but no one else knows why you won’t go for a swim.
Your first “A” lost - they still think you’re a loser
though you studied bad.
The screaming plays over and over and over again
though your parents don’t know why you’re mad.
The car you had fixed has a dent and the love
you finally won has been lost.
Gobsmacked, bamboozled,
confused as the day.
Judge Judy pounds her hammer,
your protest’s overruled.
Your afraid to make a move...will it happen again?
There’s no one to ask!

Please explain this to me…
This has me completely
and thoroughly gobsmacked
bamboozled and confused
Where do people get off
Feeling entitled
Thinking they don’t have to
Work to earn what they get
Thinking life should be easy for them
While they have absolutely
No compassion for anyone else
Quite satisfied the world
Revolves around them
And only them
Oh, now I've said too much...

Splatter painted, Pollock blessed, leggy I stand,
among the green grass and healing Plantain
in a kaleidoscope of color panned.
A walking canvas in the meadowland
stems, humorously stippled to entertain
splatter painted, Pollock blessed; leggy I stand.
Blush brushed by daylight, a cheeky garland;
a stand bloomed within thin skinned constraints
in a kaleidoscope of color panned.
Pistils between petals unknown unplanned,
joyous the sound of honey bees restrained,
splatter painted, Pollock blessed; leggy I stand.
A plantigrade intrusion, a new brand
surface mounted digits adorned prearranged
in a kaleidoscope of color panned.
So bright the upright parts, so very grand
one can but dream the crown gloriously manned
splatter painted, Pollock blessed; leggy I stand
in a kaleidoscope of color panned.
