Two weeks before Thanksgiving, I got a jolt,
I was driving my old bucket of nuts and bolts,
along the country road on a chilly autumn day,
Saw wild turkeys walking, they'd be ambling awhile,
I slowed and rolled down the window to say,
"Hey gobblers, soon it'll be Thanksgiving Day,
Run! run as fast into the woods as you can!
As soon hunters will be here, you'll be stuffed in a pan,
with sage and butter, and, may I be bold-
you'll be on china trimmed in gold!"
Their eyes got as big as fried eggs,
never saw turkeys run so fast on such spindly legs!
Deep into the timber they sure did disappear,
that Thanksgiving everyone went vegetarian-
and the turkeys had no fear. ~

Premium MemberGobble, Gobble Turkey

I was thinking - why do we eat turkey ?
The history of it is just quirky,
eat veggie pizza, why not;
home made- from the oven hot,
why not forget about gobblers perky !

Oh, turkeys run, run as fast as you can,
or you will be roasting in a big pan:
flap your pretty long feathers,
run, no matter the weathers;
keeping your head- feet and all ...is the plan !

Tide and Time

Icy shards reflect what is seen
but not what is meant to be
I will wait not on tomorrow
as the temples begin to grey

time moves along but not alone
it has hope, it has perseverance
it's dawns erupt, it's dusks construct
moments, where feelings come alive

where wanton needs are met
on twisted trails or amid broken sails
moments laying meaning to time
lost in an incomprehensible continuum

I will not wait on tommorow
and let time dictate the day
I will ride the trails
I will open my sails
in hope it will bring me your way

"Tide and Time wait for no man." - Chaucer

To all the gobblers out there. Just because you can't fly doesn't mean you should stop others from flying. Help lift others up not hold them down.

Premium MemberLife Giving Lake

Life-giving blue lake filled almost to rim
Brings beauty and delight to ones full of dreams

Gives plentiful to migrated Canadian geese
Offers cozy homes to duck families

Meditating Cranes stand by banks
Male Gobblers dance charmingly ruffling their fans

Red-tailed Hawks, Kestrels and Eagles circle over high
Searching for tasty meal using exceptional eye

Clever Blue Jays show presence by daring loud quacks
Chirping Robins feed on insects in small cracks

Scurrying squirrels enjoy hidden nut feasts
Draw packs of howling coyotes

Grassy greens become playground for scampering rabbits
Nourish Black-tail Deer with scrumptious treats

Ornate blooming fields of wild lupines, larkspur and poppies
Heighten magnificence of surroundings

Bursting woodlands of Digger pines and varieties of Oaks
Provide blackbirds, quails, towhees and wrens continual homes

Filled with moderate hills and dirt trails
I’m in awe of the splendor of the landscape

Glorious sunsets heighten beauty of the lake
Displaying shades of yellow, orange and fiery red

Astonished by generous affluence from dear Mother Earth
I bow to her feeling gratified and loved

Was Phil Tailgating Last Night

“Guten Morgen”… or should I say “Good Morning”…
This is Punxsutawney Phil
Hailing you from Gobblers Knob
That’s my tiny hill!
Today, I am feeling like such a lucky ground hog…
I know that some of you may be weeping
But as for me I will soon be sleeping
Because, there’s going to be six more weeks of winter ~
You may say Phil what were you thinking!
Well, it was kind of hard to see here
With the rain turning to snow
It’s the day after the Super Bowl
Yet, somehow my shadow it did show;
You know I had to go,
Because, it frightened me so
Thus, back to bed I must go to hibernate
But not before my veggie shake…
By the way, the game was just great,
This is Phil signing off… Saying
“Haben Sie eine gute Nacht”
Meaning “Have a Good Night”
I’ve been up way too late!

A Wedding Vow

Corpulent cottagers clapping like clowns
a fat Friday festival, gobblers and gowns.
Merry mad munchers of muffins and mirth
do-si-do dumbly, eaters of earth.
Champagne sugar shoved in a shoe
If love lasts not long, love handles will do.

Wild Kissing Turkeys of the Serengeti

If you should ever come to visit me
I want you to be ready,
For the view that I have right outside my room
of the plains of the Serengeti.

From my window I can view
some of nature’s most exotic creatures,
A sampling that it seems is so unique
each comes with special features.

Today from my window I can see
a herd that’s kind of quirky,
The rare and sometimes impetuous
Giant Kissing Turkey.

Never turn your back on these gobblers
while here on nature trips,
Or you’re liable to get one planted on you
by big, soft turkey lips.

Sometimes they kiss quite good
you might even say they’re savory,
But I think it could be even better
with just a hint of turkey gravy.

Fighting Chance

gobblers preen and prance,

          vying for the female's glance,

                    for a fighting chance.
