Gobbled Poems

Premium MemberThe Hand That Feeds You

Just picked up a pup fresh off the tit

Had a hunger that just wouldn't quit

Put kibble in a cup

And he gobbled it up

I bent over to pet him...he bit

Premium MemberThe World is Bleeding

It's said, "The world will bleed away."
It bleeds and bleeds—one pint a day.
A blood as bland as monochrome,
as voices in an echo-dome.

The drooling masses lap it up.
And lick the anchor's shiny cup.
With honeyed words that tickle ears.
Or doomsday chants, neurotic fears.

One pint a spew of ink on page;
the next a clip to bait our rage.
More deep-fake, cheap-fake, viral slop,
all gobbled up without a thought.

They swipe until their thumbs fall numb.
Each point-less short a tasty crumb.
And reach into their crinkly bag,
to find a byte with which to brag.

It flows and flows—a crimson hue.
False words—a bitter cud to chew.
When idle hour courts lazy mind,
and sightless ones dare lead the blind.

When wars are waged on field and screen.
Whilst rumor mills redraw the scene.
It's said, "The world will bleed away."
The things I see—I fear it may.

Reddi-Whip

Here’s today’s New York surprise
I witnessed with my own two eyes:
Reddi-Whip, the cans amounted
To nineteen (and yes, I counted!).

Lined up on a bench, as well
As underneath, and I could tell
They all were empty, for the caps
Were strewn around, by slobs, perhaps.

There was no whipped cream residue
And raindrops hadn’t sprinkled through,
So with these clues, I did conclude
That this was gobbled up as food.

Yet one more possibility
Did naturally occur to me –
A group of young adults or teens
Went crazy spraying all their jeans.

I’ll never know just what took place –
The detritus, though, I’ll embrace
As fodder for my daily poem
About the place that I call home.

‘When you are not fed love on a silver spoon, you learn to lick it off knives.’
By Lauren Eden

Sadness
moodiness
and melancholy
gobbled me up like termites
when rude fate snatched away my mother.
Father, like a wing-clipped bird, fell dead almost.
Who will care for me, a little chick, amidst tempests?

Love! Love!
The strange thing
caused a strange feeling
of, as though lonely and lost.
I searched everywhere to find myself.
Did I thrive in my long, struggle-filled efforts?
Torments weighed down my heart often and drowned me down. Deep!

Premium MemberMy Bloody Valentine

The night I met you, I was deeply afraid,
terrified, my nerves were badly frayed.
I pulled you from the party crowd.
My confidence, you allowed.
I cried to you. I wasn't proud.
We both had too much wine,
my bloody valentine.

I knew that your feelings were sincere.
Soon, you would always be near.
Your gentle understanding showed.
To your charms, you gave the code.
Your love, to me, bestowed,
I gobbled it like a swine,
my bloody valentine.

Thinking too much of myself, I was.
What I could offer you wasn't love.
It was a deplorable crime,
I can't wash off this guilty grime.
I should be doing time,
burning in a hellish brine,
my bloody valentine.

I'm haunted every Valentine's Day,
a lifetime sentence I have to pay.
There is every reason for your hate.
It's less than forgiveness I await.
Take my conscience off your dinner plate,
as your ghost does me, malign,
my bloody valentine.

I don't believe what just occurred!
The word I needed was gobbled up by that bird.
Oh, how could things have gone from bad to worse!
I now have this gaping hole in the middle of my verse.
And what I meant to say will be forever blurred.

Premium MemberCorny, Hairy and Schmo

Three funny guys, Curly, Larry, and Mo
Slapstick comedians, you all must know
But there are three circus clowns
Who create mayhem and frowns
The crowd calls them Corny, Hairy and Schmo

Corny thinks he's the wily ring leader
Acting as if he's a Walmart greeter
Talking like he's really cool
But people laughed at the fool
Gobbled by the lion called 'Man Eater'

Hairy can be a bear when in pursuit
Got his name from being very hirsute
He was threatened with a shave
If he refused to behave
He bit off his tongue and now is a mute

Sad has become the life of flunky Schmo
He feeds peanuts to monkeys in the show
Since he lost his two friends
Finds himself at loose ends
Three circus clowns; each one was a bozo

STRANGE DREAM

I glide in dream
through musky sky and golden stream
like winged birds ,
in a space ,devoid of words.
a golden bull amidst lush grass,
adorned with gems and silvery brass,
graze in a snowy meadow,
among a herd of buffaloes.

came a roar,
from afar,
and rose a snake,
from the lake.
I stood in daze,
when like a maze,
the land cracked open.
and smoke covered the sun.
up rose a cry,
which torments my soul.
stood in sky
an army of ghoul,
of dragons and monsters.
a legion of terror I see.
I turned toward their slithery master.
whose eyes were upon me
as it gobbled down the bull supreme.

I glide in a strange dream.

Three mischievous boys played hooky from school
Big eyed Red, Ted, and Fred thought they were cool
Until frozen with fright
Their scared faces turned white
Before they were gobbled up by a ghoul

Premium MemberIt's All in Your POV

How would you feel,
If you went home today
To find a strange creature
Had entered your cave
While you were away?

How would you feel,
If the door to your cave
Had been kicked in by a kid
Who just could not behave?
Would you rumble and roar
Or just rant and rave?

You would you feel,
If you looked in your bed
To find sleeping there soundly
A wee human head?
Would you be angry?
Would you see red?

How would you feel,
If some golden-haired brat
Had gobbled your supper
And shattered the chair where you always sat?
What would you do?
How would you handle that?

No one would blame you,
If you got really mad
With a dimpled-faced terror who destroyed all that you had.
That’s how many would feel, but
Isn’t it sad
That no one had taught her
How not to be bad?

The Birthday

Ding-Dong, Who’s there?
It’s me, your student. Please come in.
I gobbled some chocolates,
And disposed of the wrappers in the bin.

Is there something special? Try & guess.
Are you going to do the ‘Magic If’?
Do you have memory loss?
You are not the boss!

I saw everything around,
And then went to the kitchen.
In the oven was Maria aunt’s birthday cake,
That somebody baked.

Maria aunty, it’s your birthday!
I should have remembered it first.
I crush my knuckles,
And tup-tup-whoosh, I hear a cracker burst.

You are very special.
You learn fast in the cast.
Very friendly and kind,
Old but not blind.

She teaches and also learns,
In her, the fire burns.
You take the lead,
At a very epic speed!

Let’s finish the talk,
And cut the birthday cake.
We sing the happy birthday song,
May God give you a life really long!

Magic

Abracadabra, the women chanted with flair,
As they waved their wands, magic filled the air.
A curious cat watched, tail twitching with glee,
As the women's spells brought wonder to see.

Abracadabra, they chanted once more,
And the cat transformed into a dog on the floor.
It wagged its tail and barked with delight,
A furry friend, in a new form, shining bright!

The women asked, "Dear cat, are you happy now?"
But the cat replied, "No," with a flick of its brow.
So again it changed, in a swirl of magic dust,
And the women laughed, at the wonder they could trust.

But then it transformed again, oh my!
As it turned into a rat, and scurried by.

And then, in a flash, a new cat appeared,
And gobbled up the rat, without a speck of fear!
Abracadabra, indeed, their magic was true,
And wonder, awe, and joy, were all conjured anew!

Premium MemberMissy Miss Stares Down Army

Giant tiger laid herself over the enormous hill.
Staring down the tanks, guns and soldiers down there still.
She knew on the other side of the hill was an elementary school.
Tiger stood guard until the army got frightened by her toothy drool.

The soldiers began to turn away, terrified by the giant beast.
She held her ground, staring them down, anticipating a feast.
The few who ventured up there got gobbled up right away.
Only the villagers knew who the giant tiger had saved that day.

She was their heroine now, and they made a national Tiger Day.
They took care of her the rest of her life and her babies Tom and Tay.
Few creatures had ever saved them from a fate like this.
They adored their super hero tiger, whose name was Missy Miss.

On a road trip to Des Moines he bought a sidecar with wheels.
Filled it with cheese and peanut butter, mice favorite meals.
The mice had a heyday, jumping aboard, eating their fill, having fun.
Too fat to run off, they sat there, while he ate gobbled them up one by one.
