For a cold take
hot tea and buttery cinnamon toast
Flu? baked custard, very cold,
maybe milk toast with
with butter oozing from hot milk.
Sad, depressed? chocolate,
macaroni and cheese,
or favorite ice cream.
Tired from a busy day,
take-out – maybe egg rolls
and shrimp lo mein, delivered.
Broken leg? Get friends to
bring in a loaded pizza,
have a beer party
Headache? cold gingerale
(cold water on towel for head)
no food!
Homesick? Mom’s goulash
with extra melted cheese
washed down with
glass of wine or vodka and tonic.
Insomnia? At three am
anything in fridge
or pantry, preferably sweet,
like doughnuts, but even
crackers and cheese will do.
For anything else, large
cut-up juicy orange,
chocolate malt milkshake,
or strawberry shortcake.

Sally Stocks

Ducked below the counter
retrieving cans of pop,
Sally hidden from our view;
the counter lined on top.

Seven rootbeer, thirteen cola
three in gingerale.
Some are red, some in blue,
some are green and pale.

Pressed together warm with gas
grouped in every label.
Sally careful not to drop
or bang to keep them stable.

A list of sodas penciled down
on just a scrap of paper
as Sally fills her wanted list
and adds them as they taper.

A stubby fridge for holding pop;
it's glass door sealed cool.
As Sally tugs to pull the handle;
and acts more like a mule.

On opening she sees their place
and soon begins to stock.
She fills each hole to face them up
and sorts them block by block.

The fridge is full; the job is done;
it's shut and sealed in peace.
And Sally steps behind the counter
to see her sales increase.

We have the effect of loaded dice on each other
Running our fingers through each others blue hair
Making dates, spraying our discharge all over the landscape
Reading books over stale gingerale
Fighting the promise of promised love
Castrating the wicked
Avowing of and fleeing for solitary confinement
For the sweeping moment of total prayer
Lost in our basements, discovering our old limbs
The sum of our parts, always greater than the warm
Smile in the cold glass mirror while...

Mr. Crunch N Munch

Do,Doo-Doo, Do
I got Something for you
Are you hungry or thirsty
What will it be
I got more than meets the Eyes
Tater chips that taste like french fries
Candy, Soda and Gum
Now, who wants some
And, it's All you can eat
Do, Doo-Doo, Do
Crunch N Munch
A whole bag bunch
Do, Doo-Doo, Do
All day through
Just for you
What's on your mind
Coca-Cola, Gingerale, Rock Creek Lime
With a Big Mama or two
Do, Doo-Doo, Do
I got 'Em all for you
