Ford smacked into the Cadillac
but why didn’t you hold her back?
Ford has her own ways Buick said
She’s out of control and two are dead.

there was an old man named Ford
who thought history was absurd
he said it was all bunk
then his company produced a junk
and the Edsel became the car most abhorred

Harrison Ford of action movie fame
Han Solo, a hero's name he can claim
Though not a Jedi Knight
He fought for what was right
Always wound up with a beautiful dame
Then took the role of Indiana Jones
An archaeologitst who studied bones
Although he hated snakes
Indy had what it takes
An ample pair of courageous cajones

What is that creature who lingers on the ’49 Ford? Asked Boss Hog.
We looked but were not sure until we saw the sniffing junk yard dog.
The red car with rust? The bookkeeper asked, wondering too.
Oh, yes, said Boss Hog. Is that a Faerie from the ocean blue?
I can go ask her I offered, but she flittered fast and away.
So I did not get to find out on that lovely October Monday.
It was a faerie, the junk yard dog said. I saw her filigree wings.
I thought it amazing that he could not only talk, but he sings!

It seems that the truth is never quite square
it’s just a bit catywampus you see
All about the way that the cowboys lived
back in them old westerns on our TV
Them outlaws and sheriffs had old six guns
that could shoot forty-nine times on a load
Look real close and see them telephone poles
running alongside an asphalt paved road
Good guys always wore white and bad guys black
with their pearly teeth that sparkled like snow
It just took a minute to saddle up
and get anywhere they wanted to go
They could quick draw and fire their six shooters
And hit a nickel tossed into the air
But they just could never hit the outlaw
till he got to where he’d fall down the stairs
When being chased by a few Indians
they’d throw bullets out the end of their gun
If they did run out of ammunition
that’s when they’d just throw their pistol and run
A hero could get shot right in the chest
but never a drop of red would you see
The next day he’d be out riding his horse
while chasing the outlaws with his posse
At the end of it all the good guy wins
he would get the horse, the dog and the girl
He would live happily ever after
in his black and white TV western world

It was a beaten down old rusted out 1948 Ford pick-up truck.
But it was mine for a mere twenty six dollars and nineteen cents.
Don’t ask how Grandma came up with that price.
The exact amount I had in my piggy bank.
It did not run, but I was ten.
How much driving can an unlicensed ten-year-old do?
All summer long for three summers I sat in that truck.
Driving to Portland, Colorado, Texas and Maine.
My imagination loved that 1948 Ford so much.
Getting my real truck a few years later
Was almost a letdown, but not totally.

September 4th, 1957 was Ford’s “E-Day”.
Ford had hyped up propaganda for their Edsel for a year.
The consumers were in a frenzy to buy one.
Edsel was overpriced, poorly made, and it was a recession.
The car’s grille was enormous, because it was vertical.
The critics said it looked silly, and the consumers believed them.
Eighteen versions of the Ford Edsel were unheard of at that time.
This program cost Ford Company two hundred and fifty million dollars.
A 1957 Edsel in good shape today could cost around $47,000.
Back in the day the versions with all the bells and whistles were $4700.
So if you have one, you might be able to recoup your loss.
But you still might hear people make fun of the silly grill.

I am sleek and sexy
My lines are more than fine
I have a paint job that is simply sublime
I chase down the others
And maneuver in and out
I make my driver scream, laugh and shout
I am a beauty; others are jealous of me
My racing stripes are as pretty as they can be
Get out of my way. I am coming hard and fast.
Get out of my way, Grandma. I so want to pass!
I am streaking and straining, and my engine is hot.
I am an incredible piece of metal; often well sought!

Henry Ford mass-produced the Model 'T' Ford,
A contraption the unwashed masses could afford!
'Twas the latest and greatest to include a crank and jack,
And he offered a choice of colors as long as it was black!

Life is crazy so make sure the getaway car is always ready
So, we can hop in and leave the single life behind
Crank up the tunes riding so smooth it feels like we’re riding on clouds
Let’s stop at Whataburger for a little snack and photoshoot
Still dressed in our wedding attire
The white, burgundy, and rose gold goes well with the white wash tires
1821 are our numbers but the year is 1935 on the cream old school ford
Suicide doors but I knew a long time before today I would die for you
Let’s see the world tonight I’ll be the chauffeur
Cruising to all our favorite spots anything for my queen
Tire tracks painting our love scene
p.s. I wish everything was as smooth as our ride in the Ford from 1935…
