An Irish Themed Limerick Poetry Contest
Tania Kitchin
At the pubs across the Ireland nights
It's a clover field under the lights
Irish men love to pluck
Stray petals with good luck
They like the pink clovers in their sights

St Patrick's Day Poetry Contest
Oliver Mckeithan
It's St. Patrick's Day and the night is hopping
A young women joins the revelers for a toast and a beer
She takes in a bar that has good window shopping
And after a few rounds she’s dancing to the cheer
The band is rocking and drumming the night
As she sails with the sea of green on the dance floors
She sterns to the beat and bows to a knight
For he's a gorgeous catch that she reels in to her shores
Love is in the air and Cupid's arrow hits her Leprechaun
There's an instant chemistry that's boiling over
For is her pot of gold at the end of the rainbow about to spawn
Or did she hopelessly find another three leaf clover
Her lucky charms were answered when he took her hand
And promised romance and courtship before they land

Truth Finds Victory
Victory alone is a silent inner joy
But, in a twining moment
We align as one
To conquere a step
Anew
An inkling
Perhaps a tendril
Pushing upward
To reach
A pivotal role
Unity does link like mined souls
Calculating a formula
To find the perfect mold
Beneath the sun of multitudes
Lifting skyward without adieu
We grasp hands of the believer
Intrigued by a lesson
Set forth in facts of truth

death finds us all

In the shadow of time, the soul finds solace,
We wonder why the years lay down in silence,
Why we remain closed, like birds refusing flight,
Seeking hidden meaning in the language of flowers toward the sun.
We close ourselves, like old, forgotten books,
Misunderstood by time, which watches with cold eyes,
We, who love words, are lost,
Searching for ourselves in every verse written with hope.
Perhaps in losing, we will discover the pure essence,
That something which makes us eternal, beyond time,
In a world where souls flow like rivers,
Leaving behind only the longing for what might have been.
If only we had the courage to lose ourselves completely,
To surrender to the wind whispering secrets,
A wind that calls us to embrace fragility,
To lose ourselves to find ourselves whole.
Perhaps only then, carried by the waves of the unknown,
We will understand the true freedom of being,
Carving our path among the dancing stars,
Carrying us to places where memories become real.
There, poets always find their place,
Even when the world no longer believes,
In their songs, forever anachronistic,
Obsolete, yet permanently contemporaneous.

"Hoping all your consequences are happy ones."
Bob Barker on Truth or Consequences
Mediacraft attacks could conclude
if words split wrong from right.
Grace and mercy would grant latitude
but truth would upend the fight.
Worthy upshot holds much in store
yet, integrity is worth much more
Worthy upshot
worthy upshot
would find mediacrats ending word wars
for lying is moral turpitude, depravity, sin.
But who finds truth absolute anymore?

Today a black ant ran out of my C and H sugar bag
She was old, determined, mission-minded, a real hag
Trailing my sugar back to her well-attended ant nest
Ultimate scout, showing the way to my bag to the rest.

Rusty Finds A Home!
Rust-hued kitty’s shunned by day, ignored through the night
Unloved and discarded in a world numb to his plight
As he meows by a door
Rusty meets family Tor
Who give him a home, protection and love glowing bright
—Robert Gorelick
Who could resist a kitty like Rusty
Who is lonely, scared and very dusty
Needing a safe home
Of his very own
And someone to adore him who’s trusty
—Beryl Edmunds

Marta’s other pets were jealous and sore
They had been replaced by one she did adore
A stupid pig! Groused the myna bird.
The dragon was angry, but said not a word.
yellow cat waited for her chance to annoy the pig, named Pooh.
She tore up the kitchen and tried to blame him too.
Marta saw through it and gave the cat a dustpan and broom.
You will clean this up and also the dining and living room.
Now the cat was irritated, and tried to complain to the dragon.
He knew better than to get involved, he rode away in a wagon.
His last owner had also fallen in love with a large pink pig.
He decided to live with a new family, Mr. and Mrs. Dig.

Willie Anne finds faeries at least once a day
Sometimes in the field, forest, meadow or hay
How she finds them, no one can say
but when we come out, they all fly away

Mercat was in the deepest of the deep blue sea
The eighth sea if you ask the likes of Pirate Lee
When she found a mirror that belonged to me
I am so beautiful! She said with pronounced glee.
The other maids were tittering about this kitty-she.
So brazenly boastful, said one of the cuter ones, Tee.
Why shouldn’t she be proud? Asked her cousin Zee.
After all, she is the only mercat in the deep blue sea.
