Eye Socket Poems

One champagne bottle to another:
I hope you won’t think me crass
for asking if you’re feeling bloated
with gas as I am, and millions of others.

Keep in mind our distress it’s not
a quirk of nature but a method
developed over years by vintners
and improved over the centuries:

the goal to change a good still wine
into a great prize winning champagne
with a worldwide fame for those rare
and special occassions when only

the finest champagne deserves to be
served. For eager party-goers
the excitement begins when the cork
is popped (a sometime dangerous

piece of work, by-the-way, especially
if the bottle was purposely shaken
for a special effect and the cork
released like a projectile fired

from a cannon and it lodges in
someone’s eye socket, God forbid!)
though the relief from years of
pent up gas for millions of us

bottles is immediate and not
unlike that urgency many
humans share when fecal matter
is long held back and with force

and effort is released – if you’ll
pardon the crude analogy.

Khandahar is where all began IED ignited

Ket Poetry Challenge

I have seen plenty of things never been experienced by an alive eye socket.
I have been through the struggle of filling my empty pockets.
Call me a sprocket.
But I have valid questions.
Like, when will our country restore its status as food basket?
When will I have fresh water in the bucket?
When will I have my next brisket?
With the above granted I will very jubilated like a player who has found a wicket.
How I wish I played cricket.

Premium MemberAnalysis Paralysis

By criss-cross catalysis,
Pillaged from memory—from pill.
Paralysis of analysis:
Stuck inside, and outside still.

Eyes locked,
No sign,
Neck straight, head cocked,
Eye-socket lined,
Long curved spine.

Focus inside outer locus,
A junk of mental hocus-pocus.
Bogus begs the beggar be,
Rather than fathomed,
Of withered crocus.

Lillith spillith an eider-dew;
Upon the eider-down.
Willith he then simmer, stew,
A ‘neath the Summer New?

Winter fell, and song-man cryeth,
To’ve been and not much else.
Itching on an itch till nigh death!
Approaches oceans inside of shells.

Echo yonder Spring in light,
And sight might be delight.
While still the tactile tends too trite,
Yet flickered, ever glowing bright.

Eyes ‘hind,
Blind mind,
Find neither sign,
Nor time,
By petty dime.
Found ground,
Deep down,
6, puddled clown,
Without beast at behest.

By liver drowned to dialysis,
Watered words upon the sea,
Crissing-crossed heaves—phthisis,
Waits for numbed catastrophe.

Premium MemberOde To Australian Numbat

australian numbat is cuter than a chipmunk, monkey or cat.
with deep claws that know how to dig out food so fat.
tiny brown eyes and shiny nose remind us of the snout of a deer.
his striped eye socket is chipmunk-like, and crystal clear.

termites are the numbat’s diet of choice of course.
never a poetic subject of Poe or Joyce, like a horse.
but he devours termites twenty thousand strong.
not yearly, but daily. I do not think this is wrong.

reptiles and raptors – pythons and eagles too….
try to catch and devour numbats as foxes do.
numbats sense of smell is overly developed, keen.
at Yookamurra Sanctuary they can easily be seen.

mumbats' caves and cottages are actually hollow logs.
where he can hide from feral cats and dogs.
george moore recorded his first one in 1833.
“Looks like a squirrel, weasel or striped cat to me.”

The Bone Tree

From beneath a long frozen earth
ancient human bones surface,
they rise far enough for an eye-socket
to be seeded.

A sapling grew from out of that skull.
In time the skull became a tree.

Like many tree’s its skeleton was on the outside
but the bone-tree’s bark was harder.

It grew gnarled and knotted, grimly striated
were it knurled as if a twisted growth
had tortured wood into blackened bone.
It’s leafage was scant, spiked, and leathery,
thorns were it canopy.

Some claimed it to be an old apple tree,
yet no fruit did it ever bear.

After hundreds of fruitless years
it fell, stuck down
by its own inflexibility,
its unbending bones broken forever.

From beneath a long frozen soil
where once a garden flourished
a serpent slid away
seeking more blind eyes.

Common Side Effects

You enter your mind daily.
Sometimes you swim in an eye-socket.
Science has proven
that poetry is highly contagious
so never go anywhere or mingle
with the rest of humanity.
Sadly there is no cure.
Eventually the brain gets spongy
which of course
is the only upside to this condition,
for it can be used to mop up
after you spill your guts
all over a page.

Premium MemberDoctor Please Hurry

A bullfrog jumped into my eye socket today.
Pushed my retina aside, and was clearly on his way.
I can feel him jumping around. My sight is blurry.
Doctor, please come quick, as if you are in a hurry.

Rain

Petrichor is practically visible.
As the sun breaks rain, taste buds evaporate memory.
Profound liquid circumstantially accumulate round eye perimeter.
Sniff some evaporated rain water here; mind you.
Point your nose holes up, there.
Roll some eye socket joints.
Always locate how normal you are.
Lie about where?
Sniff some evaporated rain water here; mind you.
Point your nose holes up, there.
Roll some eye socket joints.
Always locate how normal you are.
Lie about where?

I am standing
In a line scene
Cuz my body
Needs its caffeine

And in front of me some dink
Orders a confusing drink
Now he’s changing ‘round his order
With our patients growing shorter

And a sword from
Someone’s pocket
Now sticks through the
Guy’s eye socket
