We can only be grateful
For our brief stay upon earth—
The moon moves softly through the trees
As if it knew our worth.
He for she and she for he,
I with you have fished the sea,
And every tide upon the shore
Returned us gently evermore.
A boat makes all things well at night
When stars are kind and waters bright,
And magnolias in bloom descend
Like letters from a faithful friend.
The full moon lays her silver shade
On every vow that love has made;
Blue skies remembered after rain,
Tall trees that whisper each sweet name.
Broad green leaves in summer air,
The quiet grace of being there—
A full life, a good friend,
And roads that blossom without end.
For earth is brief and hearts are small,
Yet love outlives the rise and fall
Of darkened seas and passing years—
A lantern shining through the years.

he was indeed not very bright
mishandled quotes he did recite
got into a daily fight
misconstrued things, oh yes, quite!
he gave many a blatant sight
loose lips should have been more tight
he often had to change his flight
for he was jailed through the night
he was a shrimp of five-foot height
his face was furry, beard was white
this was my uncle LeRoy Dwight
He’d often give my aunt a fright
his fits in public were no delight
his pin-head-brain did not work right
he often bragged who he might smite
unhealthy ideas that he held tight
BELLE AND DWIGHT
An elderly pair, Belle and Dwight
Went skinny dipping one night.
With the harvest moon glowing
And their naughty bits showing,
Twenty-four peeping toms took flight.
