Shifting standards in drifting sands,
where forgiveness is a sundae treat,
spins the wheel of fortune
to shuffle-card mode.
Where truth is discounted,
by dealing cards face-up,
and uncounted.

i used to think
loving you too much
was romantic.
now i see—
it was me
giving away parts of myself
like clearance items,
hoping you’d find value
in something
i had already discounted.
you thought my devotion
was desperation.
you watched me fold
into smaller versions of myself
just to fit your world.
and when i broke,
you called me dramatic.
but i wasn’t asking for too much.
i was just asking you
to notice
that i gave everything
and asked
for almost nothing.
now,
i look at who i was with you—
and i forgive her.
she didn’t know
love isn’t supposed to
humiliate.

“Pray without ceasing; in everything give
thanks; for this is God’s will for you in
Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5;17-18.
The hands of compassion echo
kindheartedness like Christ conveyed.
To the Good Samaritan’s mind,
cost discounted; duty outweighed.
In disparate worlds without slurs
the hands of compassion echo.
It matters not where needs occur;
they’re unique, unlike art deco.
They are hands that go way beyond
never grabbing, never gripping;
the hands of compassion echo,
off’ring help for someone slipping.
To make the diff’rence in God’s sight,
always pray, give thanks and check - "Oh
that we could know His perfect will!"
the hands of compassion echo.

My thoughts drift away to a time where
children played in the streets,
and lemonade stands stood on the corner
in the heat of day,
and ice cream trucks could play their gleeful tunes
that brought children running,
and running children were happy,
and happy didn't mean wealthy,
and the wealthy didn't rule the world.
And everyone's word was considered by considerate hearts,
instead of drowned out and discounted by our wounded parts,
and happiness and harmony abound in the hearts of the living,
instead of contention and derision.
These are visions longing in each heart.
We just don't know it yet.

I am your basic product in demand
I am on the market shelf discounted
50% off, marked down as special
I am on the bridge between the shifts
I am a shopping spree gone wrong
Jumping off the ledge into the river cold
Time stands still regardless of the consequence
Prices tumble but never fall
I am now drifting into savings
At landing I become the values earned
Coupons have no equal
Back on dry land I come alive
I come in 12 packs egg-less empty
In cartons at the grocery stores I hide
Behind the sales lost packaging
I am on sale at any price
I am the market value stamped
I am checked out at all cost
I am lost at a cost transcendent

Honestly Speaking
Frankly speaking one's candor
Has put me in some uncomfortable
Situations. Honestly Speaking
For instance, correcting someone of
The spelling of my name. Honestly Speaking
I often address my feelings of confusion,
Tension, chaos. Honestly Speaking
Often feel discounted, taken advantage of,
And not appreciated. Honestly Speaking
I'm not an attention-seeker nor do I prefer to chase
Anyone who sees my self-worth is also valuable.
Honestly Speaking
My straightforwardness in my process seems to
Hinder me for not being unpretentious. Honestly
Speaking

I found a hair in my egg roll
Lipstick was left on my glass
Discounted prices, no wonder
Bean curd is giving me gas
Cracks in the dishes are nothing
Cracks in the seats are too much
My bottom’s nearly deflated
Next thing, the floor it will touch
Speaking of floors, they’re so sticky
My foot stepped out of my shoe
An hour you’ve been in the bathroom
Search party’s looking for you
Get me the check, where’s my cookie
Ugh, there’s no fortune inside
Chow Mein is starting to rumble
Yuk! I think something has died

and now for my next trick
I will try to be seventy
SEVENTY!
My brain yells “We are twelve!”
My soul yells “nineteen at the most!”
My arthritic ankles yell “we are a hundred.
Being seventy ought to be a cinch.”
What does seventy look like?
How does seventy act?
I know that seventy is invisible.
And seventy’s ideas are discounted
and seventy is easily ignored.
But I have little other knowledge
of how to be seventy.
I guess I will wing it.

I bathe in the tears of your frailty.
Love has never seemed so distant as when two people are content with unhappiness.
Society assigns romance with an unrealistic interest rate.
A lifetime of loathing cost more than a lifetime of loneliness.
Before you deceive a woman make sure to dig a shallow grave with no tombstone.

across a bridge i walk
smiling at the lake's slow flow
then you come along
all of a sudden i want to buy a boat that i know not how to operate
you say hello
i reply hello back a little too quickly
then i notice the wedding band along with your smile
i wish you a good evening and stroll along
and so it goes, some things aren't meant to be
across a bridge i walk
smiling at the lake's slow flow
then you come along again
all of a sudden i want to buy a boat that i know my heck to check behind cannot afford
then i notice that i mistook your birthstone ring for a wedding band
i make light conversation on said bridge with a kind of shy, bashful tonality
you smile back at me and begin to do something similar to blushing
we walk together in the perfect, early fall weather, talking, laughing, and loosening up
we say our goodbyes when you tell me you have to go
i give you my cell phone number but do not ask for yours
i just wave back at you, admire your smile again, and watch you drive away
and so it goes, faith without works......mmmm hmmm
i think when i get to my car i am gonna google discounted, slightly used boats

The vagaries we grope with
The triumph of temptation avails
as the wind claws
Each heart is an ineligible abscess
Twisting lanes
Eternity scatters west
it all goes on paper
searching for a lunar shrine
a secret of scribbling sands
amongst the discounted heart

Matters of one's heart and mind conditions uninvited
confronts each of us. Hurdles and bobby traps complicate
our paths.
Where does one go from here ignored, discounted, or remain
consumed and forfeited or continue to persevere and hang
touch with these staying powers to master our issues.

NOTE:THIS IS AN OPEN(organic) FORM VERSE using spaces&breaks without grammatical symbols ,the ' open' relies upon 'the one breath limitation' & so inherently requires the 'reader' (reciter) to input and responds thus making this enigmatic form a two way interplay & interpretatIon unique to the moment& changing according to mood is inherently variable.
