Heaven's Highway
(In Memory Of My Dad)
By Robert Austin Allison
Some folks think I'm joking,
Others say No Way, Come on!
Fifteen years from us,
Is how long you've been gone.
The hours turned into days,
The days turned into years.
It seems like only yesterday,
Your passing brought us to tears.
January 16th (2005) - we said goodbye,
The day God called you from on high.
"Welcome my Son, into Heaven."
At the young age of only fifty seven.
Construction work you did all your life,
You left behind two sons and a wife.
You could not stay for one more day,
God needed you on Heaven's Highway.

I
I said, I am here to talk
Could not talk my walk
Or is it, Walk the Walk?
Reason is The Soup Mail
As opposed to Google Mail
Did fail, and fail, and fail
But LORD will heal, avail
His grace more than I, Anil,
So friend, If I or technology did fail
The Savior's Love you must avail
(The toast I wrote for Dad)
Toward the roses with his honor
Their peaked thorns of sacrifice
To those steeds he left unbroken
And the chimes a-pealing thrice
To the statues still in marbled earth
Countless draughts thus never spilt
To that knight left rusting in the rain
The steadfast bridges that he built
To the jester in his dancing court
The somber conscript left behind
For his queen 'midst her devotions
And his swords of heart and mind
For the master, mate and martyr
Who we laud now with our breath
And the God he loved with graces
Who now grieves us with his death.
Husband, son, father, brother, friend ...

Well, I guess I’m finally that cranky
old Slow Poke: the one who does
25 in a 35—the one who rolls up
his driver’s window, when you pull
alongside with your rock-n-roll
blaring. The one who always signals
the same direction whether turning
right or left. The one who keeps the kid’s
ball when it flies in his front yard attacking
the roses--he talks to them, and God alone
can decipher their colorful language.
But the one who also limps from an old
war injury, the reason why we are not all
speaking German, and high stepping in
Bone-crushing boots. No Rockettes
do I speak of. No smiles from that merciless
Chorus Line. He was also the generation
who dropped the bomb--the big one--
and had lived 50 years with that fateful
decision. “It was the right thing to do…
them or us” repeated through the decades
of nightmares. War is something most young
people only write songs about—protest against...
smoke a joint and have a beer afterwards….
While brave young men and women
leave limbs on the battlefield to protect
the right for so many to be thankless
fools….
I have his eyes, his smile, his sense of humor
I can make the sideways glance, but it is not his.
My grandson makes it on cue,
Taught by the best
I used to have his back, mom’s sense of humor
I used to watch for him for days at a time.
He was a salesman, and a giant in his field.
He went from Fuller Brush to selling insurance
His Fuller Brush route ladies used to yell their orders
As they were leaving for Bible study or a wicked affair.
He was jotting down orders right and left.
Selling insurance was exactly this kind of easy.
He had a smile that lit up a room
And he had the gift of love all over the place.
He was a mighty man, and I loved him.
I still do, but in heavenly form now.
He was my Daddy, and he showed me
How to listen.
Which has been a fantastic gift.
One that has given me precious moments.

Words to describe your speechless
The time I spent with you is priceless
I have written about my daddy
He has a heart of gold
He did not have any Supernatural powers
But still, I call him as my hero
After coming from work he used to see my face
In my life, no one can take his place
I can never forget his encouragement and forgiveness
He gave me strength and affection
I think the relation of father and daughter is best
All other relations are next
Dad Did Die
Why was it really meant to be?
Dad did die serving his country
And me and my family were left alone
Each day when the sun had shone.
I am still so lonely each night
And sad tears off have to fight
Never receiving a one last kiss;
Him forever will always miss.
It is now Memorial Day again;
My dad was one of many mighty men
Who for country had given his all
And for him one day God did call.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY DAD
Your heroic efforts are treasured
The amazing things you have completed
The events could never be measured
That the enemies are now defeated
Your service makes you my superman
I would like to thank you for it all
I am as proud as anyone could stand
Your picture will hang in the hall
Now go on and enjoy your victory
Never forget my head will be held high
Knowing that you had made history
It will just about touch the sky
He died forty
with strength and wit
He left a son Young and young
He died nighty
With bones no teeth
He left a boy pale and forty
They meet in paradise
Dad still forty
Son at nighty
Dad thought it was grand pa
Son thought he was grand son
Who had died also
Dad Did Die
