The Boy of Art

Ken, they all say painters paint best
When they're torn apart,
Music sounds best
When it hurts your heart,
Love’s ONLY real
When it crushes your soul, made into broken shards

So, is this why you left
With a broken heart to make art?
But, I'm not cutout for this, am I?
Someone told me I am, ‘twas my heart,

I lost you even when
You said I was your plan
When I was just your fan

You – The boy of art,
Taught me it all,
Taught me to write,
Rose me when I fall,
Pushed me to speak,
Pulled me, my walls
To Bring my wretched heart
The sky with shooting down waterfalls

But now I don't know
Where are you?
If may I meet you at all?
How are you?
If may I see you once and for all?
Gone, are you?
If may I feel you, your soul lashing gold?
The boy of art, where are you?

blues and greens, gently trickle out of the day

Shadows are unforgiving,
stark in relief,
dark in infill.
These stiff hollow silhouettes
of gutted entrails
follow us around,
lacking the detachment
to avoid being brutally honest
about our outline shape and
where we've been and why.
We avoid looking back at
the shadowy dark-side behind us
that is plain as day
to those who watch our
tell-tale umbras
that trail behind
as tails
as wagging truth sayers,
dark, stark, stiff
unforgiving naked,
rear-view selfee cut-outs.

Invasion of the Bums & Scarecrow-Soldiers & Pretty Ballerina’s
By David J Walker

What are you gonna be
	I donno
Maybe a soldier or a bum again or a Martian
My sister wants to be a ballerina
But its way too cold for that

The most memorable year was when my mom turned me into
the tallest paper mâché octopus
Every seen
in a 3rd grade class.

The Halloween parade would begin at 10 on the school stage that hosted
the most ghosts & goblins
 bums and ballerinas
		and store-bought Cops & Cinderella’s
soldiers and white-as-a-sheet spooks with big cutout eyes
& bums with bones
black magically coming out of nowhere

After dinner & Its the Great Pumpkin Charley Brown
We are out terrorizing the town
Winter coats covering our prized costumes
	Timidly
		Begging for candy
Until our big brown bags could hold no more

		Sorting
Chocolate with chocolate
	Suckers with suckers
	Candy bars of all kinds
Candy lips & candied apples
	Candy cigarettes & Popcorn balls

	The next morning
Moan/Groaning
       But still
can’t wait for school to start &
The retelling of the last nights Halloween Haul &

Scary Halloween

Upon this twilight eve a full moon-lite night appeared,
Crackling leaves with mounds of bags and children jumping with glee.
As graves flew open with ghostly sights witches began their brewing,
with stark black eyes and fiery sparks her sight glowing within.
As the smoke rose from the kettle below ghost and goblins appeared,
then cutout pumpkins with scary faces as the children ran in fear.
Begging for candy going door to door and sounds of doorbells ringing,
their faces hidden behind their masks of evil with laughter and giggling.
The night went on and their pails filled with candy and hungry tummy's,
They did not know their parents' eyes shining at the sight of chocolate.
Searching through these pails of candy the children's lot got smaller,
for the parents ate the children's spoils only to get a sick tummy.
The witch knew her brew would end up in the hands of thief’s,
giving the children a goodnight sleep with dreams of gobbling there,

My neighbor's orange pumpkin patch
seems so spooky and 'very scary' from my veranda.
A black cat cardboard cutout 'will still' give me a thrill
if provocatively poised perfectly still.
Kids love movies; oft dressing up as Rambo
or Robin Hood, complete with a gun or bow and arrow.
Halloween is a 'fright night' celebration for any age,
and bogeyman costumes are all the rage,
but if they give me the heebie-jeebies, I won't let them in.

Premium MemberAngela Will Visit On Fathers Day

Our oldest daughter will be here on Sunday, Father’s Day.
I will fix something tasty.
She will give Daddy a present and a card.
It will have all kinds of hand-written compliments in it.
Best Daddy in the universe, my hero, that kind of stuff.
He will take his food into his office to eat.
A refrigerator room.
He keeps it on freeze in there.
It had three windows.
Now it has central air and three window air conditioning units.
I know it cannot be over thirty degrees in there.
Baby will probably follow Daddy in and try to talk to him for a bit.
I will set the timer to eight minutes.
Carry her stiff body out.
She will be as hard as a cardboard cutout.
We will spend the rest of the day visiting while she thaws.

Still Your Date, Dear Jude

Be happy
For the peace of mind
Be scrappy
And celebrate to go blind
Of the joy you've find

Never permit
The drabness in your situation
Never admit
It could stoke up your reason's activation
To drive home happiness for there is no permanent situation

Be glad
For in life exist CHANGE
Be mad
To try cover up in range
That people wonder greatly; how strange?

Keep the fun glooming
Which braces your ways
Keep the emotion flourishing
Twist of ways to enjoy your days
And hope all wishes aren't mere says

The assurance ranting in you
Is enough to keep you moving
The precious flow of your muse ever new
Is enough to keep you inking...
And get the world whirling . ..

No doubt
Can delay the glory
No cutout
Can stop the lorry
To all threat, is a big sorry

In Christ
Rest your success
In tryst
Rest your redress
Just choose right and be not stressed

Shine bright
It's still your day... Jude Chukwu

Premium MemberIce Diamonds

After the flurry
My soul delights
Soft curves before me
Ice cream dreams
Shadows dancing and stretching
Defining infinite frozen sculptures

Ice diamonds
floating through the air
Glistening
Riding the shafts of pale sunlight
Landing on my nose
Blanketing my eyelashes
I capture them on my tongue
A frosty treat

A shiver up my spine
I wiggle my toes awake
Warmth in my belly caresses me

Surreal
This glorious tapestry before me
Silent beauty
Her dress of lace
Paper cutout high heels
A crown of icicles

Hugging myself now
A hole in my mitten
Allowing the magic
to seep into my heart

The Poet With No Soul

"I will run, when you are in pain,
After all, I have so much to gain!
To me, you are but a cutout photo
at a baseball game."

"You see I have zero compassion.
I am at the Soup for my own gain!
I don't care if you drown in the rain."

"I only write to get trophies for me!
I could care less about thee."

Words,indeed,are so dastardly cheap.
As they ignore a fellow Poet that weeps!

Matisse’s “Christmas Eve”
in a procession of candles

Through the church window
in the 20th century of faces
impaled gingerly
in velvet glow
flickering shadows against
the walls
an organ streams

Through the church window
lost cutouts found
humanity gathering
into a moment of flame

Even Godless poets
recall lifelong enigmas
of golden glow
recording the same search
the same wonderment

True note: I was married and pregnant, supposed to go to Alaska with my husband. The Senior Chief looks at me and actually says: Did you ever think of having an abortion?

Another loved one was in danger of a similar happening.

Thus I take the subject very seriously, as a mother bear protects her young from villains.

How diabolical to think human life is but a plastic doll.
— YOU CANNOT HIDE by Panagiota Romios

How diabolical to think human life is but a plastic doll.*
It’s a magic trick, the saw across the horse.
Arms hanging out of holes, the head too —
they’re spent. Hashtag to all the humans we hate.
Shall we toss the pieces into the garbage salad
or wrap them up to go — oh how awe-fully
the chef describes the seasonings of life.
Oh the madness! The insanity! The genius
hides behind the curtain — it’s curtains,
over pried open knees meant for love and delivery.
Instead…
a cutout of a paper doll, a shadow of evil
as the puppeteers break out in applause
and the screams are hidden unto judgment day.

Premium MemberFlatsie Dolls

flatsie dolls pretty
in the eye of the beholder,
not for its shapely flesh
cookie cutout figures, shoes
positioned unnaturally
to their sides.

so what draws in the girly-crowd?
hair so plush, sometimes in pink
and a Shirley Temple dress
just below each cheek.

flatsies went out of style,
never glamour dolls
but bring a smile
when pinterest chances
a childhood peek.
