Inspired by U Got the Look
Boy, when you walked in, my heart went BOOM.
Best-looking guy you were inside the entire room.
Face of an angel, eyes so soft it seems
I never saw a guy so schweet except inside my dreams.
I don’t need some macho man with tattoos or a beard
or some girly boy extra sensitive and weird.
You are like a Christmas gift, the best I ever got,
saying everything just right and looking hot, hot, hot.
In this world of boys and girls, I know lots of fishes.
But you are the best catch, for you simply are de-lish-es.
I can’t wait to cozy up beside you in your car.
In your red Corvette, baby, you can take me far.

To be safe is to cozy up with your past,
Like that old sweater you can’t throw away—a bit frayed, but a blast!
What you see is what you get—
A masterpiece of chaos, like a cat's hairball at your feet,
Born from the brilliant art of dodging responsibility,
And a grand delusion that mistakes are just "creative beats.”
To love is to pretend you care, oh dear,
For something outside yourself—like that plant you forgot to water, I fear.
Yes, most religions have turned this into a thriving market,
Selling “selflessness” like it's the latest fashion—what a racket!
Stained with the colors of thought and wishful dreams,
Dulled by contemplating cultures—you know, the usual schemes.
And if you ponder long enough, who knows?
The future might just wink at you—but only if it shows!
But man—oh, what man dares to take a peek,
At his own quirky quirks, his blunders, and, let’s face it, his cheek?
He is king at heart, ruling with a laugh,
In this comedy of life, where we all play our part—just look at the staff!

At Jimmy Carter’s funeral
A senator exclaimed
He saw Obama “kiss the ring”
Of He-Who-Can’t-Be-Named.
I watched the clips and verified
The two of them conversed.
It was a bit surprising, but
It didn’t seem coerced.
Most others kept their distance,
Which is what I would have done,
For I’m sure I couldn’t cozy up
To someone I would shun.
Yet perhaps it’s just diplomacy
That people should expect,
But it’s hard for most to share a laugh
With one they don’t respect.

Where we sleep there might be quilts
Or comforters or spreads
Or blankets made in varied styles
To warm us in our beds.
Some might prefer a cashmere throw
Or one hand-knit in wool,
While others cozy up to down
And can’t resist its pull.
A cotton blanket, or velour,
Keeps many feeling snug,
While weighted covers, loved by few,
In most evoke a shrug.
A coverlet atop a bed
Will make it look complete,
Yet lots of sleepers get along
With just an unlined sheet.
Still, no matter what your preference,
Any cover is okay,
But be careful that your partner
Doesn’t tug it all away!

Could have seduced you in plain sight,
but I don’t like to kiss and tell;
Stay down-low if it’s substantial;
There’s a cloak around every night,
we can cozy up it’s alright;
Magnetic’s not intentional,
could have seduced;
If you stick around I just might
do something nonconventional;
Admit it I’m sensational,
if your behavior wasn’t trite?
Could have seduced..

Today’s the kind of rain that causes
Rivers in the street
And when you cross, you’re bound to
Wet your toesies and your feet.
The puddles quickly turn to lakes,
Perhaps to raise a flood
And every garden’s sure to find
Its dirt bed turned to mud.
Windshield wipers can’t keep up;
Umbrellas funnel drips
And back at home, with sopping clothes,
Most everybody strips.
Today’s a day to cozy up,
If you’ve no pressing chores,
And remind yourself you’re lucky
That you get to stay indoors.

NO MORE WAR
MY HEART CRIES FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD
WAR, EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK THERE IS WAR
WAR IN UKRAINE, WAR IN AFRICA, WAR IN SYRIA
WAR WITH THE PALESTINIANS AND ISRAELIS
WAR ALL OVER THE MIDDLE EAST,
WHILE LEADERS OF THE WORLD COZY UP TO DICTATORS
WHO OPPRESS THEIR PEOPLE WORLD WIDE
THE PEOPLE TRYING TO HELP THEIR FELLOW MAN ARE BEEN BLOCKED BY
GREEDY LEADERS AND COMPANIES, JUST LOOKING FOR A PROFIT
WE ARE IN A TIME OF HELL ON EARTH, WE ARE FIGHTING FOR ALL HUMANITY, WAR, WAR
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A FEW CONTROL THE MANY, WITH FEAR, STARVING AND KILLING OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WITH WEAPONS OF WAR.
RISE UP PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHOOSE YOUR LEADERS, AND IF THEY DO NOT LIVE UP TO YOUR MORAL STANDARDS, THEN VOTE THEM OUT OF POWER, AND IF YOU LIVE IN A COUNTRY THAT HAS TAKEN THAT RIGHT AWAY FROM YOU, THEN TAKE TO THE STREETS, THERE IS MORE OF US THEN THEM.
WHAT MORE CAN THEY DO TO YOU, LOCK YOU UP! BEAT YOU! KILL YOU!
FIGHT FOR YOUR CHILDREN, FIGHT FOR YOUR COUNTRY
IT IS BETTER TO DIE FOR A JUST CAUSE, THEN TO LIVE IN FEAR OF YOUR OPPRESSOR.
NO MORE WAR! NO MORE WAR!

I cozy up..
not wanting the cold to seep down further
into my already shaking being
somehow blinded by the fact
that the chill was begun deep and long ago
unable to shake the icy beast.
Sleep eludes me..
The tired body and drooping eyes seem
no match for the raging of remembered past
overtaking my thoughts, tormenting my future,
dashing all hope of now forgotten peace
and disturbing the pretense of nightly rest.
Be still, my thoughts.
Create a void. Let calm instead
take hold of dark and captive stay
long past the morning's giving light.
Replace with fresh directions straight
toward sweet tomorrow's warm embrace,
pierce through the cold where trust awaits.

Rattle snakes rarely cozy up in arm pits
But he was a peculiar type of evil
He wore sinister like a glove
Gray vermin followed him
Down moldy garbage smelling alley ways
Begging for a piece of his evilness
His victims fell under his spell
Almost immediately and eagerly
As his outside package was handsome
His smile hid a multitude of crimes
And violations against humanity
His dastardly charming ways
Fooling women nightly
Encouraging them to follow him
To the land where yellow rats lived

The drip drop pidder padder of heaven’s salty tears drags sorrow in tow
The woodland creatures scurry into their cozy sheltered homes,
Fearing the outcome of a splashable ground and a hyperactive sky
The footprints from a busy yesterday fade and the sidewalk canvas remain blank.
Until Mother Nature gets over her breakup,
There will be no today.
You must wait for tomorrow.
We can forget about the errands that need to be checked off the to-do list
We can forget about our happiness
It’s time to cozy up and linger in a chosen shelter for the 24 hours left of today.
Bow down to the Earth
Succumb to the wet, sad sky illuminating above
Maybe tomorrow Mother Nature and Mr. Sun will reignite their lost spark
One can only read so many good books inside after all.

#1
I go to sleep each night,
For the rest I prize,
And wake each morning,
To my great surprise.
I sip my coffee,
Or drink my tea,
And revel in the luck,
Of being me!
And then one morn,
As the sun grew hot,
The coffee percolated,
In the coffee pot,
Everyone else woke,
As was their lot,
But no coffee for me,
As I did not!
Eldon Grupp
#2
I love to go to sleep each night
For rest I always prize,
And wake each morning somehow...
Though to my great surprise!
I sip my coffee in its cup
Or cozy up to tea,
And revel in God's gifting...
That somehow I'm still me!
But then a fateful day arrived,
The sun became quite hot,
The morning I'd expected...
In simple words was not.
No coffee boiling in its pot
All missed their morning tea,
A world stripped of its atoms...
With nothing left to see.
No human woke to meet this dawn,
The scene that had unfurled,
All time to praise and ponder...
For souls set free from world.

In the deep blue realms of sadness
Floats the madness of my soul
No happy childhood dreams to cling to
No cherished memories left to hold
A crippled smile hides the weary miles
And scars carved deep within my heart
Ive searched this world for better horizons
But it seems those aspirations fall apart
Ive questioned God of my creation
And the reasons why im hear
But every time i think i see the light
The vision slowly disappears.
So ive made friends within these four walls
With the gate keepers of my soul
And i cozy up to my madness
Alone in the dark and cold.

A couple checked into a room
In some small town hotel.
They settled in but were disturbed
By some unpleasant smell.
They checked the bathroom – it was clean.
The closet was, as well;
But clearly there was something off –
Just what, they couldn’t tell.
Before they turned the bedspread back,
To cozy up a spell,
The husband peeked beneath the bed
And let out quite a yell.
His wife crouched down and what she saw
Was something to repel –
There was a corpse, perhaps the room’s
Most recent clientele.
This story’s true and creeps me out –
There is no parallel.
As for the couple, I’m quite sure
They beat a fast farewell.

It's three forty two
And I'm feeling blue.
Saw you yesterday
And can't sleep without you.
If you were here
I'd simply cozy up to you
Stroke your face and hair
And fall back to sleep.
It would be a worry free sleep
Because you'd be next to me.
You'd be warm and safe
And I'd gain the strength to go on today.
But your desire to love only your little one
Has left my mind and heart undone
And I'm sleepless in Charleston
For yet another night, oh well.
If you had told me your heart was too small
To love us here too then perhaps
I wouldn't have this heartache at all
And I'd be asleep now, not suffering so much.
All I wanted to do when I saw you
Was kiss you, hug you, touch you
And never let you go again,
But your happiness is more important than love from this man.
Well, it's four forty five and I'm starting to cry,
Will be up in two hours anyway,
Sleep doesn't matter, it's just another day
And I'll survive it somehow, someway.

Wild are the spring flowers which win my heart
wood violets blue, and those Johnnie jump-Up starts
waves of ajunta burgundy glow
pierced with lost daffodils standing apart
a gourmands delight admired a la carte
'mong seas of forsythia fences are draped.
Bushes of fuzzywillows looking smart,
cozy up to dirt roads soften the heart.
even the dandelions make a fine tableaux
as off I go my head spinning with art
to paint images, the sweet and the tart
expressionist posies, as if for VanGogh.
Indian strawberries dot gardens in beds
as buttercups yellow, slip through rye grass
tickled by warm winds and skies overcast.
Oh, I'm ready to paint the beauty ahead
with crimson, vermilion and titanium lead.
Sitting on a hummock I draw the repast
mixing my colors on a piece of glass
stunned by the wild flowers, most over tread.
*Dante's variation on the Italian sonnet.
