In the sunset eve of my life,
A recurring thought plagues my mind:
How can I, as a parting soul,
Discard my past and leave behind
My shame, like shoes put off in porch,
Pain, prejudice, like clothes worn out,
And leave all on my pyre to scorch,
And set off on journey sans doubt.
Thoughts on death, commonest of rage,
Trouble a parting traveller,
Bent down with some needless luggage,
On lips a pardon, last prayer,
Regrets for not living so light,
His dead body left like a lumber,
Oh, waiting on platform of plight,
For a train not knowing whither!

Almond promises
round oval drops
dripping song to fall
in neon light
His stares of hope
conflate when she comes
your everyday Cleopatra
cascades lofty
Acorn kisses
hanker sweet footsteps to be
on time
mystique on the commonest day
burrowed deep in the recesses

Most graffiti I have seen
Consists of tags or pictures.
Messages are therefore not
The commonest of fixtures.
Yet today, upon a wall
Not used to spray-paint inking,
Was “Sorry Mom” in boldest red,
Which really got me thinking.
Was it sarcastic or sincere?
Was guilt the motivation?
And would that mother ever see
Her child’s capitulation?
We can’t know what was in the mind
Of who scrawled out each letter,
But I am sure a phone call
Would convey that thought much better.

The commonest denominator,
stepping toward the throne
His minions with their blindfolds on,
about to be disowned
The commonest denominator,
laughing at their pain
Another lie, stick in the eye
—a life of greed and shame

Dust
by Michael R. Burch
Flame within flame,
we burned and burned relentlessly
till there was nothing left to be consumed.
Only ash remained, the smoke plumed
like a spirit leaving its corpse, and we
were left with only a name
ever common between us.
We had thought to love "eternally, "
but the wick sputtered, the candle swooned,
the flame subsided, the smoke ballooned,
and our commonest thought was: flee, flee, flee
the choking dust.

A blessed soil which perspires cashews and coughs out black pepper,
its global banner of rice is raised so high
which is only beaten by one.
Specializing in the juices of the commonest limbless reptile
with cuisines highly recommended by the parliaments of health.
From dragons to birds;
the turtle to the horse;
the minds of its people have well been bonded to these,
making historians marvel at which exactly
helped in denting the American military pride.

Observe
When you think you have beauty in your life and it is taken
When you think a world is born of your own minds eye creation
When lies are the commonest words spoken without deprecation
When the dark nights become your only truest salvation
When you believe in two hearts becoming one in loves manifestation
When I lie on a beach and hear the waves of the ocean in total concentration
When I see the tropical birds in many colours on a tree in congregation
When you walk with your thoughts and realise that living is just an observation

JAMES PHRASIS
AN INMOST SOUL AGLOW
Art,a universal spirit with
many distinct manifestations
with spontaneous productions.
The human genius of inward
attraction sheds divine splendour
with infinite riches,to generate
a ray of activity as an idea or
conception in the mind.Art is
positive,a substantive majesty,
an inmost soul aglow.Served
by nature, the menial of the artist
furnishing his informing eye,smiles
before the window of conception
in the performers soul with the tender
freshness of dawn.In a lingering glance
using the fruits of imagination to
admirable advantage to actualize
an idea with human sweetness,
pregnant with meaning,carrying
the dew and fragrance of God into
the commonest nook of daily life.

In the dark
Beyond the reach of light
When the day is clothed in black cover
And color, height and size exit the stage
When all, without exception is levered
By the highest commonest decimal of nudity
Devoid of illusion of furs and feathers
Tempting the eyes of shamefulness and shamelessness
In dead dark night nakedness
We return to beings called human
United with the effervescent rhythms of nature
A turn, and back behind the beginning, we are
Turning the time to timeless Eden
Stripped of all trappings and wrappings
Of façade and fallacy of fashion;
Vile fame and vain fortune
Base beauty of clothed eyes
We become knotted with the elements
Stark naked as we once were
When nude culture was the couture
In the stark dark night
We stand naked and true
Naked; pristine, pure and proud
