On a journey not knowing whither

In the sunset eve of my life, A recurring thought plagues my mind: How can I, as a parting soul, Discard my past and leave behind My shame, like shoes put off in porch, Pain, prejudice, like clothes worn out, And leave all on my pyre to scorch, And set off on journey sans doubt. Thoughts on death, commonest of rage, Trouble a parting traveller, Bent down with some needless luggage, On lips a pardon, last prayer, Regrets for not living so light, His dead body left like a lumber, Oh, waiting on platform of plight, For a train not knowing whither! ___________________________________ Musings |06.05.2024| life, death
