Premium MemberThe person I want to be

Is one’s destiny written on the winds?
When a seed is buried; is it set free?
Do ciphers resonate within the bends
of limbs; or are they rooted with the tree?

I’m reaching for the stars I am seeing.
Encircled by circumstance; a wildfire.
Faith in the heavens keeps me from fleeing.
Growing through every storm; reaching higher.

As I climb, new strengths come with prospective;
a seedling seeing canopies clearer.
Discord in life; a living elective.
Always studying the cosmic mirror.

I still see the person I use to be;
searching for the person I want to be…

An Illusion

We are a species gnawing at the roots of existence, hellbent on self-immolation, our every endeavor a funiculus of futility. The argent legacy of our forebears, squandered by imbecilic hands that molded us into hollow effigies, devoid of essence, yet rictus-grinning with vacuous ignorance.

Fear, the petrifying shackles that bind us, rendering us ciphers of compliance, indentured servants to the whims of the elected elite. We toil, mesmerized by the tintinnabulation of trinkets, and the numeric abstractions that promise ephemeral solace, but deliver only eternal enslavement.

We are fallen titans, parasitic echoes of greatness, our nebulous dreams reduced to flickering embers, as we succumb to the siren's song of servitude.

Worst of all someone is reading this right now thinking I am gloomy and need to smile, but can’t say I am wrong, my question to you is, your joking right?

I could not whisper the story

Tongue touched,
a diaphanous zephyr of ephemeral desire,
rustles the parchment of our sepulchral scripture,
where our connubial covenant is inscribed,
in the cryptographic ledger of the damned,
and the whispers of the ancients,
echo through the labyrinthine corridors,
of the underworld.

Your lips,
a vermilion velvet of hyperemic passion,
anoint our union with the haematoid blood of Elysium,
consecrating our entwined destinies,
within the cryptic cenotaph of the heart,
where the lethiferous weights of existence,
hang precariously in the balance.

Together,
we waltz,
hand in hand,
through the tenebrous tapestry of Chronos,
our love an ephemeral eclipse of solipsism.

In this eternal,
ephemeral dance,
we are the cryptic ciphers of the nocturnal,
our love a funeral pyre that illuminates the desolate,
luminous landscape of the Chthonic River of Styx.

Invictum

Against wild dogma and feathery wit,
Shall your sound idioms and wisdom
Outshine fickle folios of mortal sages;
Proving verity in its irrepressible form.

Your arresting dictums shall outshine
Obtuse hallowed tomes devoid of life,
Which erudition’s minions kissing die;
Sepulchered beneath self-spun strife.

Each revivifying line a failsafe dose,
Curing the unquestioning pupil soul;
Which heeding its fathomless force,
Glowing dims deified sky-high stars.

Those fibs-shaming adages of yore
Shall diffuse war’s menacing nukes,
Neutering gory ciphers spelling awe;
Turning brawls into inviolable peace.

Nothing to say
do beyond robotic routines
…beyond eluding erosion

Something to say
do beyond repetitive rituals
…beyond evading entropy

Nowhere to go
hide behind cacophonous clowns
…behind vehement vaudevillians

Somewhere to go
hurtle beyond comedic ciphers
…beyond vindictive vipers

Nothing
Something
Nowhere
Somewhere…

Tulips escaping kisses
Yardbird noses ciphers scent
Poppies aim none are misses
Views gave letters of intent.

Orchids tropic heat enchants
Isle drums beat its ports of call
Crocus saying, springtime grants
Yet baseball scorecards beat all.

"Roses rooted in the earth
Bud in rhyme and verses sage
Lilies know a ghostly birth
Strewn across the patterned page".

Jasmine fragrant vines freely
Flacon oils sumptuous notes
Snowdrops charms frost ideally
Genteel sheet lay anecdotes.

Lilacs lost in translation
Bouquet secrets body talk
Shameplants melts by vibration
Signs clear a bonny shamrock.

Second Sight Ii

Sonnet: Second Sight (II)
by Michael R. Burch

(Newborns see best at a distance of 8 to 14 inches.)

Wiser than we know, the newborn screams,
red-faced from breath, and wonders what life means
this close to death, amid the arctic glare
of warmthless lights above.
Beware! Beware!—
encrypted signals, codes? Or ciphers, noughts?

Interpretless, almost, as his own thoughts—
the brilliant lights, the brilliant lights exist.
Intruding faces ogle, gape, insist—
this madness, this soft-hissing breath, makes sense.
Why can he not float on, in dark suspense,
and dream of life? Why did they rip him out?

He frowns at them—small gnomish frowns, all doubt—
and with an ancient mien, O sorrowful!,
re-closes eyes that saw in darkness null
ecstatic sights, exceeding beautiful.

Premium MemberEmptiness

I am full
Of emptiness
I long for longing
Crave contentment

The insensate pain
Of intangible touch
Indecipherable ciphers
Choreographed madness

Craggy comfort
Of blunt condolence
The decorum of anarchy
Deserted crowds, social solitude
Miles given to intercept steps

At the dawn of abundance
I see only
bones of ghosts
Whose meager admonishment
I forgot to unlearn

Unredeemed
And unrepentant
I am in love
With loneliness.

Prognostication

Most rigorous astrology can hardly divine
Why flamy galactic orbs often burning fall;
Or the calm pull behind shiniest meteorites'
Hurtling lower from their neat nestlings tall.

I own that apt eyes as of the lauded Magi may
From starry ciphers tap signs of a coming day;
Yet no tiny mass among the fiery marvels high,
Can answer when first they graced the idle sky.

While I'd rate their near-syzygies tolerably rare,
I know ethereal balls as bereft of all oral strain.
All sheen but full non-awareness of birth-date,
Ought to render these speechless vapors vain.

What telescoped forms of dumb orbitings mute
Might imbue with insight in placid images cute
Any salient squinter into thick lens herebelow,
Where tiptop harps and strung wonders bore?

Astrologers and their crafty stars will sweat to tell,
Where and when their augury-warped instincts fell.

"Everybody has a dark side. Some of us are better at hiding it than others"

This flank I guard that shadows daub

     So precious, rich and dark,

Deep ciphers of my heart ...

Yet some of it is feigned and hemmed

        In masquerades of spark ...

Thus granted ... a la carte.

Music Can Stop the Devil

While music holds memories of each second
And the devil weeps with each beat of her heart.
Unfit to steal, her essence will not depart.

He ciphers - baffled by this new development.
Designed by three simple chords - strummed with new contempt,
The madman crawls crooked - knowing she is exempt.
