I remember it as yesterday
the disastrous event
when I couldn’t find the dolly
that for Susie’s sock was meant.
My folks and all the others
had gathered there to see
the small school’s Christmas program
and community Christmas tree.
I came up on the darkened stage
in my role of Santa Claus.
I found Johnny’s skates and Nellie’s book
and then there was a pause.
Susie’s sock hangs lank and lean
as I search the flour-sack bag
for the doll I knew was in there.
My high spirits start to sag.
The seconds turned to minutes.
The minutes seemed like hours.
I wished the sky to fall on me
or at least some meteor showers.
I heard the teacher whisper,
“It’s okay. Get off the stage”.
I was the most downhearted Santa
of six years or any age.
Many, many years have passed
and it’s still a mystery
how that doll could hide herself
when I searched so desperately.

I had a leopard with soft spotted fur
And a tag that said “Duetsch Gemachter”.
He carried it home after his tour;
With a bow saying, “Love from Daddy”.
My first Christmas gift, something that said,
He loved me, his oldest daughter.
But time went on, and Christmases passed,
And life took its toll, naturally.
My mother complained, “Too many children live here;
One less will surely not matter”.
The lady looked sad, as she reached for my bag,
For my mother had chosen me.
The world fell down and everything changed;
No family, no love, and no laughter.
But I had my leopard with soft spotted fur,
Which once sat under my Christmas tree.
I had proof of his love, with soft spotted fur,
Telling me once, I really did matter.
And no one could take his place in my heart,
For once, my dad had loved me.
These are lyrics for a silly Christmas song I wrote- if anyone wants to add music I'd be
interested?
Didn’t really know that it was Christmas
Until I saw a smile on everyone
Santa Clause is jaunting out on business
The party at the pole has just begun
Let’s all party now and have some fun
The reindeers are up and gone
And the night has just begun
Bells are ringing sing the song
And the children have their toys
All we elves are ding, ding, dong!
So let’s party girls and boys!
Santa Clause is jaunting out on business
The party at the pole has just begun
Didn’t really know that it was Christmas
Until I saw a smile on everyone
Rudolph said you’ll never make it
Huh! He surely got it wrong
Everyone here did their bit
Even help from old King Kong
Start the party no delay
At the pole here all night long
Yep! It’s Christmas time hurray!
Didn’t really know that it was Christmas
Until I saw a smile on everyone
Santa Clause is jaunting out on business
The party at the pole has just begun
Her best Christmas ever was when she was a kid.
The house where they lived was for sale for the
highest bid.
The fall of that year she picked cotton for two weeks.
It was so cold she had on a coat, gloves her face
was all red and so were her cheeks.
Mom and dad tried to pay the bills before their money was gone.
Dad left the house to get a Christmas tree he left at dawn.
That year they knew Christmas would be slim.
We decorated the tree but with no electric the lights were dim.
We were all suprised to see nothing under the tree.
But she knew the love of her family is all she would need.
They all said Christmas this year would be bad.
She said it was the best Christmas she ever had.

A Christmas memory my mom told me about.
A very special treat when I was a lad,
Was going to J C Penneys with my Mom and Dad,
To visit Santa sitting upon his elegant throne,
Hoping my youthful follies with him I could atone!
I'd been warned by Mom throughout the year,
That if I behaved I would have nothing to fear,
Because somehow Santa knew if I'd been bad or good;
If good, toys beneath the tree was a likelihood!
So with fingers crossed I hopped up on his knees,
To make known to him my youthful pleas.
After hearty ho-hoing he got around to asking me,
What I wanted him to leave beneath the Christmas tree.
I gave him my list and he said, "I can't guarantee,
But I'll do my best if you will promise me,
To leave a snack other than cookies and milk,
Like salami and cheese or vittles of that ilk!"
I was a nervous wreck, my angst hard to conceal,
Wondering if Santa would stick to his end of the deal.
There were heaps of toys when I awoke on Christmas dawn,
And mysteriously, all the salami and cheese was gone!

I'm sure that Daddy just forgot when he set the fire alight,
That Santa would be coming down our chimney tonight.
Does Santa have a cell phone? I'd like to call him please.
I'll tell him not to worry and set his mind at ease.
When I see Mama sleeping and hear my daddy snore,
I'll just creep down the stairway and open up the door.
Santa always finds a way to fill my Christmas stocking
But for Santa to get singed and hurt on Christmas would be shocking.
I thought our chimney ready, Mama had the man to clean it,
I'm really vexed with Daddy, though I know he didn't mean it.
I hope that Santa has a phone he carries in his sleigh,
So when he sees the smoke tonight, he won't just drive away.
Christmas is much more than toys, I heard this from my mother.
If Santa misses I'll be fine, I worry for little brother.
