Suppose all around you suddenly vanished,
And you realized you were standing alone
In the twilight of your years feeling banished
Like a pilot-less, rudder-less, helpless drone.
You knew your life was mystifyingly dreamed
With many questions and answers few,
You know everything was not as it seemed
And you scarcely know exactly what to do.
The lot of many elderly in our nursing homes
Removed from the familiar, in a strange place
Victims of memory loss and various syndromes
Suddenly feeling like they are in outer space.
Many spend their last days lonely and sad
Feeling unwanted and deserted, I am told,
And some of these places are horribly bad
It makes me fight to keep from getting old!

Thank God it’s almost over, at least near where I live
Clinics, pharmacies, grocery stores and jails
There is the Vaccine Finder and companies with free time
Now will have them too and 16 year old children
At their schools ready for sports and Fall’s days of lessons
Friday is my final shot, my husband is a week later too
So I am reading and looking at the nearby parks
Point Lobos, redwoods and otters, Ano Nuevo’s seal lions
I know it will be limited and have to make arrangements
To help everyone and the seas be safe, but I wonder
If there isn’t something important that we must remember
Take care of children worldwide, wildlife, the elderly, the seas
Honor all the people who volunteered to help
For life is precious and nothing is for sure
At the age of ninety
Time is scarce,
But memories plenty!
Beneath the wizened face,
The mind reflects,
On the many defects,
Of the journeys past,
Moments that did not last,
Memories that are distant,
Of voices that now are silent,
The childhood that was,
That knew no laws,
Youth that had no fear,
That rebelled it’s peer,
And in the process lost,
All that was dear,
Moments that cannot
Be restored,
Stories that cannot
be retold,
Now In silence
and ignored,
By the offsprings
She adored...
Not land, not gold!
No! not even a treasure trove!
All She wants Is a hand to hold
A few king words of love.
WON’T YOU HELP AMERICA---
Elderly man bout to fall
Won’t you help him America?
Frail ole lady has no food
No one has a cares nor has a cue
Won’t you help her America?
Homeless and despondent
Have no one that they can trust
Disillusion misplaced and shun
Have nowhere to call home
No monies for room or board society snores
Can’t buy food at any store
All of this while the rich are rich
Middle class poor could care less
They’ve got theirs and you can get yours;
What’s more worst than elderly poor
Won’t you breathe your last breath?
Why don’t you help middle class?
This is no way to act, to treat the elderly
Won’t you help America?

What makes us feel good
Is to do the right thing
Give a few bucks to a down and outer
It will make your heart sing
Visit an elderly woman or man
Or call them on the telephone
They never hear from their families
Without you they are alone
Volunteer at your local school
Teach a child to read and write
A sense of worth will surge through you
You will have made a friend for life
Acts of kindness are often quite easy to do
And through your good deeds, you create a new you!
My first wish would be to help children
Around the world__meet all their needs
Be it need for basics like food, clothing
Or shelter from the cold, water, __meds
This would include children in the states
Who in the city sometimes aren't safe
Then my second wish for elderly
Would be for love__ care continually
Then something for me that I long for
Health and strength to be able to care
For my family as needs arise
Granted these wishes__ life would improve
Wishes for children all around world
Love and care for elderly__last me
