Forests at nightfall are scary to see;
not just dark forms- but loud sounds flowing free.
Far from at home, with cute puppy's bow-wow;
or from your kitten's sweet, gentle meow.
Skunks and opossums resound with a screech;
harsh sounds for us- but for them, secret speech.
Night owls all hoot, while young fox kits will yelp;
grasshoppers chirp as plump frogs croak to help.
Nightfall brings on the long nocturnal hunt;
bobcats join in with their loud hungry grunt.
Wolves and coyotes- as foxes all howl;
big bears roam free with a loud husky growl.
Not just dark forms- but loud sounds flowing free;
forests at nightfall are scary to see!
Best viewed on film- for you never will flip
creatures that find you before you can zip!

coyotes howl
desert comes alive at night
I shiver
rats shaking tin cans
junkyard comes alive at night
I cringe
wild zombies dance
graveyard comes alive at night
I turn tail
screaming bobcats
woods come alive at night
I run like mad

My brother has a mountain lion
Prowling near his street,
A cat that on a morning walk
You wouldn’t want to meet.
He lives up in the mountains, though,
So people understand
That animals like that will roam
All over on that land.
My son received a police alert
A bobcat has been seen
In his suburban neighborhood
Where bobcats don’t convene.
The warning said to check that your
Garage door’s not ajar
Or you may find a huge surprise
When climbing in your car.
It’s strange my son and brother
In such different habitats
Have been linked by sudden sightings
Of these most unwelcome cats.

Redwoods over 240 million years old
our coastal redwood over 2,200 million years that we know
cleaning carbon from the woods as they grow
giving life to Marbled Murrelet leaving the redwoods
at dawn and return at dusk through the fog from the sea
gathering fish to return to the redwoods and their nests
pumas nearby hunting then lying near the redwoods to rest
while banana slugs the second largest slugs in the world
crawl under the redwoods eating mushrooms and leaves
sand hills creek side woods pines and evergreens
coyotes, bobcats, black tailed deer giant redwood trees
ancient groves the Sayanta tribe redwood lumber mills
then taken over by the parks to protect redwoods and hills

You can be a turtle, a deer, a buffalo, a dog, frog or a sphynx,
But you never know true love until you have fallen for a lynx.
I have a pair of them, and they adore me upside down and inside out.
They give me joy and companionship; they truly make me shout!
You may refer to them as bobcats, if you grew up seeing them this way.
No difference to Hansel and Gretel, they still hunt down their prey.
Their silent padded paws help them hunt with the best of the beast.
When they drag in their carnage, we have a wonderful meat feast!
They were found by me as babies after hunters got their mother.
They are happy with me, and even more happy with each other.
A brother and a sister, they like to prowl and hunt at night.
I sigh a relief when they come home, knowing they’re all right.
They can run fifty miles an hour, faster than most cars on our road.
I like watching them skedaddle, when they are in chase mode.
They like to curl at my feet and listen to stories, and sigh.
And no burglar has ever bothered me. Don’t you wonder why?

She loved this time of day the best
Wearing her cloak of secrecy
Riding her favorite mount
Charles of St Louis
Lulled by the invitation
of the forest
Seductively quiet
Silence made her smile
Increased her abilities
Internal lantern
Coaxing her
forever forward
She gave Charles his choice
He could take her to the
brook or the hills of violet
She did this often at dusk
Fearing nothing
in her nurturing woods
Bobcats and wolves left her alone
Feeling her purity
Adoring her essence
Sure they watched sometimes
But they recognized her
for wild knows wild

They dug a deep hole and
Made a tunnel at the end
They made a
large woodchimmey
And covered the hole
With logs and covered
The logs with iron plates
The had six vents that
Came to the surface
They used bobcats
And frontend loaders
To make the field have
Depth
Walking from the back
Of the circle you felt
Like you were walking
In the Roman Collusium
They made the statium using logs
Two by fours steel beams
Pvc pipes
They sewed together
Ten large tents to make the
Top of the ceiling
They wanted a uniform
Top, the engereeners
Would be awarded for
There craftiness
This might be the beganning
Of some of these guys careers
We want to have this type
Of night for all to remember
We used folding chairs
The heat coming from the
Ground wasbscented
By hickory. They had
Grills below
Were some folks
Cooked bbq
Generates made lights
And the soundmen for the evening

The young doe so alive
Brought down by one shot
Way back, several years ago
The hunters could not find her
Venison they desired to eat
Then her carcass lay at the edge
Of an open field next to the deep woods
Slowly
Vultures, crows, bobcats, ants
Ate their fill
Now only dry bones left
Still baked by the sun
My writing has hit a dry spell
Like those dry bones
Baked by the spring sun
All dried up, turned white by the sun

In the jaundiced light of the pock-marked moon,
Nevada nights many strange visions have seen
But few match spring time rapidly rutting rabbits
Racing and romping in moonlight madness;
Frolicking free in a sagebrush sea
Amidst white-crested mountain waves;
While whirlwinds swirl and in playas play
One hundred and forty fathoms deeper
Than luna-limned beach strands of dry lake shores.
Bobcats lurk in the moonbeam shadowed deeps,
Eager to feast on the bounding banquet
Of loco late-night leaping lepuses.
Madling moonshine swilling drivers pop a
Fair share of raw rabbits upon their grills
As coyotes yowl over missed moonglow kills.

I was a casserole bride
Everything I made was
A casserole, out of
Left-overs, other foods
I could not stand
To get rid of food,
To waste it.
Today I am
A bit more thoughtful
Knowing the raccoons
And the feral cats
Are waiting for
Something wonderful
To land in the dumpster
Has helped me release
My need to eat it all
I throw a lot of bread
And crackers out now too,
For the birds.
And I dump old carrots and
Dried up pieces of celery in
The yard for the deer
And the bunnies.
The neighbor thinks we have
Bobcats now
Because she
Said “all of the bunnies
Have left.
I do not dare tell
Her that I have
Lured them all
To my yard, for
Fear she will
Demand them
Back.

Today's racist is not your hate racist of the past.
Today's racist are just ignorant people, both good and bad.
Most see humanity,
as akin to the feline family.
There are lions and tigers, cougars and bobcats,
jaguars, leopards, cheetahs and house cats.
The cat family is an array of a great variety of sub species,
but a common ancestor among all can clearly be seen,
and that's how most see humanity.
All races are seen
as human sub species,
who all share a common ancestor that branched off into a great variety,
of "races", the human term for "sub species".
Let me set the record straight.
There Is No Such Thing As Race.
There is more genetic variation among a group of chimpanzees,
than there is in all of humanity.
All of us share the same common ancestor globally.
We are all directly connected genetically.
In truth we are one big worldwide dysfunctional family.
Race Does Not Exist, it is a falsity,
and this has been proved scientifically.
Today's racist is plain and simply this;
Today's racist is anyone who still believes that race does exist.

Daybreak, the first light of this morn
Which reveals a few gray streaks
Then a flock of turkey vultures
Buzzards who probably reek
There is a stillness to the air
It seems strange and eerie
The buzzards add flare as they fly
No height gained as they flee
Mourning doves' coo adds a hollow tune
Their distant song somber
A cat bird in a near tree sings
Songs I can remember
Spring's sun seems to rise slowly
Casting pastel's soft tones
A nice beginning to this day
All the human senses honed
Now a delightful fuchsia shines
Upon morn's early sky
Also reveals thick silver fog
Down where bobcats lie
Sunday another senseless shooting
Anger carried too far
People need a touch of the Master
He'll erase all our scars
The One Who paints morn's pictures
the meadow's flowers fair
Just touch the hem of His garment
You'll find His healing there

Don't ask lovely Star Magnolia
Nor blueberries' bell blooms
Japanese Magnolia won't tell
Lest quickly seasons assume
Who browned the awesome pink blossoms
Or turned camelia squishy
Was it the brown nervous squirrel
With his dancing tail swishy
It must have been Bobcats at night
Who climbed in blooming trees
Then painted tips with brown markers
Not the northerly breeze
Maybe unfinished???

Cats that purr, do not roar; Cats that roar, do not purr.
Lions and tigers roar with bluster
With all the might they can muster.
But, take them home for a cuddle
And their purr is just a muddle.
Bobcats purr like thunder.
Enough to shake you under.
But bobcat's roar is only strut and bluff
Their roar in silence, just huff and puff.
Mountain lions are just the same
All purr and no roar, their game
They purr when happy, when licking their paws,
Even when angry, their purrs don't pause.
But try this at home and it may surprise you
Get your cat happy and purring anew.
Then run a tap nearby, in sink or tub
And the sound will make cat purr scrub.
