Getting Rid of Food

I was a casserole bride
Everything I made was
A casserole, out of
Left-overs, other foods

I could not stand
To get rid of food,
To waste it.
Today I am
A bit more thoughtful

Knowing the raccoons
And the feral cats
Are waiting for
Something wonderful
To land in the dumpster
Has helped me release
My need to eat it all

I throw a lot of bread
And crackers out now too,
For the birds.

And I dump old carrots and
Dried up pieces of celery in
The yard for the deer
And the bunnies.

The neighbor thinks we have
Bobcats now
Because she
Said “all of the bunnies
Have left.

I do not dare tell
Her that I have
Lured them all
To my yard, for
Fear she will
Demand them
Back.

I'm picturing your yard full of Disney-ish animals who have befriended you, your food and never poop. Oh, please read my "Lifelong Meaningless Musings" on page 2 of my poems because I KNOW you will enjoy it - that's why. Your writes are a breathe of fresh originality air to me! Poetry hugs ... CayCay
