Night Bewitches Sponsored by: Shadow Hamilton
A dream is a microscope through which we look at the hidden occurrences in our souls. Erich Fromm
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the placidity of the night's embrace,
bewitched the cosmos with an arcane grace.
The moon, a silver orb, may induce its rise.
Oozing its ethereal aurora over the skies
Whispers of worm words waft on wafture wear,
As the stars spangle, their nexus is spare.
The night wiles with its vestigial spell,
Drawing us in, under a talisman dwell.
Penumbras plaster pegs poltergeists of trees,
The twilight augury decry casts souls at ease.
Geezers of nightgown awaken from slumber,
Suing solace in the Cimmerian shade to clamber
The eventide sky overawes with a cosmic array.
Stars bedazzle and coxswain us on our way.
Moonlight sumptuous aura in a gentle glow,
Steer us through the shadow as the nexus flows.
Ebony necromancy decry a glamorous sight.
Drawing us close to the serendipity of the night.
In this cosmic wee hour, dreams bear flight.
Our souls are raised, and our hearts blight.
So let us indulge in this nocturnal delight,
As dusk vamps, squirting a glamor of delight.
Let us wander in the moonlit haze,
As sableness susurrous surreptitious sprays
Wee crepuscule twiddles, a plum night symphony
Where conceit phantasm and verity shed sympathy
Allotting an awareness acumen ariose and aureate
Upon ubiquitous utters uncanny unsophisticate.
The wind blows free in my valley
Bending giant trees to her will.
Sometimes from the north, such anger spews forth
That even the sun feels her chill.
Clouds scurry around to obey her
In fear she’ll devour them as well.
In her primal pain, she lures gentle rain
To join in her demonic spell.
In moments, fury abated,
Reverting to sweet-tempered breeze,
So mellow and light she seduces night
And vamps bright daybreak with her tease.
In arrant essence, without a fight,
Herald of vamps, in the dead of night
Ushers a raw wave that captivates,
The heights of the cosmos resonate.
Wax in our ears, the truth we long to hear,
Despite fear or quaint hopes, with zeal, we steer.
In bravery, the sun's light subdues the sight.
Rolling through the despair of a lonesome night.
Slightly too reckless, we dare to dream,
Framing a foist under the whiskey moon gleam.
Reminiscing about the warmth once shared,
Now mislaid in the miles left behind, scared.
Yet in the depths of our soul, a blaze remains.
A flicker of optimism that cannot be tamed.
Whiskey moon and a reckless wish
Guiding us through this journey, a celestial dish.
We dance with the cosmos, our spirits alight,
Embracing the unsung, chasing the light
With every endeavor, we withstand the odds,
Leaving behind the solace of familiar nods.
In the cosmic realm, we decry our place.
Unveiling the secrets with zeal and grace
Whiskey moon, shining dazzlingly above
Reminding us of castaway love.
But in the gloominess, we explore our way,
Through the shadows, we will not stray.
In the depths of our soul, we hold,
The memories of compassion were once bold.
Though miles may separate and time may pass,
The alliance we formed will always last.
Whiskey moon and ambivalent bliss
Swaying us through life's unpredictable abyss
Cunning were her noxious machinations,
Choosing those who never stood a chance.
Masterful projecting of temptations,
Brilliant timing, her alluring glance.
Naive innocence alerted weakness.
Perfect prey, a rug beneath her feet.
Wary of her charm, he played to meekness.
Vamps are blinded by their own conceit.
Love projecting trust her highest rated,
Self assured to win this rueful game,
But his insight unappreciated,
Destined to dethrone this queen of shame.
Midnight luggage packed as she lay sleeping,
Daybreak finding him no longer there.
Not his absence roused her ardent weeping,
Rather, roles reversed and woe to bear.
All her hidden plans, new beau, new city,
Lost its "joie de vivre" without a chump.
Debit card replaced by selfish pity,
Catatonic stupor, being dumped.
She was fooled, assured the man had fallen.
Not a clue his quietly keeping score.
Retribution silently came calling,
As a sliding key beneath her door.
Six plumed vamps, posed on pointe,and smiled lewdly at the judges.
Girls stumbled across the stage and collapsed into a feather heap.
Audiences went goo-goo for their camp twist on Lady Gaga.
A Brewing Storm ©
Thunder and Lightning, ‘Me Oh My’!
Blasts and ‘vamps’ its warring symbolic call
Ceiling clouds roll in a ‘smoking’ broil simmer
Pressures build, stirred to exploding crescendos
Light-bolted charges sent to spike a ground
Heavens open and release bright fire bolts down
Blackness is now showing cut sliced silvery veins
Few if more 'rests' between a signature storms charge
Will stay the night for a short reprieve to woo us into not
Sending in their hushes before the dramatic storm slammer
Is its 'gift' of quietness for reflection to what comes next
Beware, time to take a breath and watch and listen, listen!
Written 1st March 2013 by Rachel Fawcett. I am a Trained Nurse by day and spend my time off collecting stamps and trying to write poetry. I haven’t been publicly writing very long and this is only the second poetry competition I've ever entered. I love writing as it stretches my imagination and I enjoy the challenge it brings. I love collecting stamps as they bring order to my mind.
Couplet
Cornices, and Gargoyles with eyes turned low,
hold fast the passing in a frozen stare
as slow vapor rising from vents below
is churned by soles into thick city air.
Undeterred, the well-heeled leather bottom
wingtips fly past sandaled sloths at crosswalks
while clicking heels kick dead leaves of autumn
and wind their way through crowded city blocks.
Just above a breezy sidewalk café,
sheer fabric wafts a low-loft window sill,
two pair of empty vamps and laces lay,
removed in shameless haste and lustful will.
Beneath the sheets, a naked feet affair,
entwined, aligned, with dreamy souls laid bare.
You say you're not afraid
Of Were-wolves and the like
Or those blood-sucking Vamps
That fly around at night
No creature from the crypt
Could make you run and hide
And no pack of dead dog zombies
Could make you stay inside
Monsters sure know better
To stay out of your way
And if they don't, they know
That they will have to pay
You say you are the reason
That ghosts are pale and white
And ghouls and goblins only dare
To come out late at night
Now, I've known you just a few years
And I'll confess it's true
I've never met a person
More scarier than you
I remember the very day
I was most, feared, for my life
When I signed those legal papers
That made you my X-wife
Dexterity, the fluid ease of two-a-penny vamps,
Their fingers locked as vices, seize the stomach cramps,
Abruptly tug and lobster squeeze the strands of flesh inside,
Felled down upon the scabrous knees with tongue and muscle tied.
Knot that slips around the throat and snaps the neck in two,
Constraint to keep the pain afloat and turn the tissues blue,
A mass of tension gets the goat, assuring all the while,
A polished wooden overcoat to end the days in style.
Tangled by the cords of life reefed ‘round the heart and mind,
Suspicions, panic, husband, wife, the toe tag ties that bind,
Confusion, stress, to drive the knife until one cannot cope,
Hang the days with strain and strife, give ‘em enough rope.
Spiders spinning webs and broomsticks swooping low,
Wizards, warlocks, trolls and witches casting spells,
Ghosts and spirits float around, no place to go,
Dripping charnel houses, captives’ groans in cells,
Grinning Jack-o-Lantern, hanged men’s legs that kick,
Mummies, ghouls and bones, and smells to make you sick,
Toads and eyeballs dropped into the witches’ brew,
Zombies, vamps and werewolves plan to feed on you.
