Premium Member The Sea Gulls Came Home Potd

The horizon was brewing ominous clouds,
Dark as if they came out of hell.
The once azure sky became hazy
As the north wind chilly breezes
Puffed up more stratocumulus,
Rain-heavy clouds signified storms.

I rested against the balustrade
Of the promenade, looking down at the sea.
Waves upon waves dashed at the dark crags.
Seaspray washed my tired face.
Above the seagulls came to enjoy
The thunderstorm that would soon erupt
Above the small bay, now emptied of boats.

The seagulls were indeed a sight to see.
Only a hundred or so circled the inlet.
They plunged into the sea for food
Irrespective of where the chilly wind blew.
They were an elegant sight to see.

As the first drops of rain fell, I betook myself home.
My wife was waiting anxiously for me
Afraid I’ll get wet. “Watching the birds?”
Clearly, she was not very much amused.

She turned her back on me, as thunder boomed
And lightning flashed but I went with the wind,
And clasped her round her winsome waist.
She did not resist, and neither did I.

War Paint Mixture

Haudenosaunee ...
translation: They made the house
But who painted it
the colors we now see ---
Red, white and blue
Let's go back in time shall we,
and observe who cut down the first tree
in the eleventh century
Five Nations ...
called by one name, Iroquois
A French given name
Separate nations who agreed
to live under the same
Great Law of Peace
Signified by the Great Tree
that housed all five families
under one roof
Haudenosaunee ...
The long house was proof
that all nations could come together as one
under one roof
A novel idea, way ahead of its time,
the first North American U.N. of it's kind
That was a nice trip back in history,
but the question still remains: who painted the long house
the colors we now see ---
Red, white and blue
The answer, perhaps you never knew
Even so, you never thought about it much, did you
Mohawk red ... a lot of spilt bloodshed
Onondaga white ... a lot of innocent loss of lives
Oneida blue ... a lot of human souls traded too
Cayuga red ... a lot of totems toppled on their head
Seneca white ... a lot of war whoops in the night
Iroquois turquoise blue ... a lot of ancient land taken by someone new
Seems two coats of war paint wasn't enough,
too bad they didn't first try the color of love

(1) I Defy All the Obstacticle's (Believing In Prayer's)

I thought I couldn't make it, I thought, there's no-need in trying to fake it. I thought I
couldn't make it, couldn't even if I tried. One thing I had going for me was the strength
of prayer, the desire too try and shake it. The enemy use to laught at me, probably threw
party after partie's, had me the object of an pitifull degree. But like I said earlier, prayer's
are the commodity that give's giddy preference when one has given-up, still defying all the
obstacle's, treating life with stupidity. Many if not all people, do and will fall, fall-down the
ladder of life, the censentsus of marriages(why problems occur) and with no answer coming
in a timely fashion, and if one or all began to doubt the sainthood of the prosturity of trust
and surity. I thought I couldn't defy all the obstacle's, my selfishness lead to a private war,
predicated to a underscribable spell, and as I sank deeper and deeper(lump un throat) one
day with gun in hand, suicide became a source of a beginning instead of an ending (so I tho-
ught). My hand was trembling fuseily, to kill, steal your joy of life, the enemy must have been
smiling that dreadfull day, the day I thought to end it all. Tear's running down my face-out of
nowhere, a disturbing noise of siren's outside startle me, I later learn they were there for me.
Someone care enought to call when I didn't answer the phone, I had mention earlier--when
life had seem empty and blue, "that I no longer desire to live". So they prayed-and then the
authoritie's was call, arriving just at the nick of time. How could I allow things to get so bad.
It was so sad(so I thought) many times the God of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, he didn't
hear me, nor did I thought of love and peace for my sorrow.
"I defy all the obstacle's", the enemy tried to stored in my head. Now I know the reason for
life is the oddity of hate and the present of fate. That prayer's are the life-line that show's
him where is your faith, that you can carry to him, all the hardship one if not all shall face.
"The author of creation teaches love eternally is the essence that signified all that's difficult
when facing that (monster) always remember." "I defy all the obstacle's" :

Ga Ga Over Green

                        Ga Ga over Green

This green parrot pecking the green coconut,
Under the shelter of long leafy huge tree,
sings ' Green de la Green'
On this velvet green bed, in the open, I lie,
I can feel green sucking my fatigue
Ooo la la,its a refreshing and healthy feeling,

These golden corn capsules atop the green field flutter,
The green grasshopper hangs around the green caterpillar,
Transparent pearly dew drops create an emerald green effect,

Green leaves had the honour to cover our predecessors,
Green Man of the Pagan period signified fertility,
                     My religion venerates peaceful green,
Green band of my country flag connotes hope, prosperity,
                     Green is pious,national,rejuvinating,,,,colour of life,

Ma ma mia,,I wanna sink into this green,
"O Green! ,unburden me,embrace me ,sanctify me",
Wake up world, save green and prefer to go green.

Premium Member Marrow, Mud, and Loon Lake

What's the espresso this evening, Rubicam?
My random access memory will light upon it
As I riffle the files of my brain.
Pulling out something fresh,
I burst out with words to cover the enigma.
Bones
Bones are the fare--
Stewed bones with marrow deep inside.

Cracking the bones of the chicken leg,
I find essence,
Everlasting purity so well stored and tucked away,
Like a savings account or DNA.
The vapor of mud rises fleet and narrow.
This is the conduit of the inner sanctum,
The railroad across Canada in the snow.

Red vertigo covers the wheels as they turn,
Rolling asunder like a sky.
We eat and gorge on the beauty of it--
The holy thing--
Sent all holy and shiny new.
We split the marrow with a scalpel,
All sharply tooled and honed.

The operation is a success at last--
Liberation is at hand surely.
The vice has fallen away,
And the orange center is revealed.
My word-center is on autopilot;
I am still, silent, patient.

Then the marrow grows overabundant,
Needing quick hands to capture the thief,
Lest escape be granted.
The expository hose is drawn up.
The bare leg is covered and modesty satisfied.
There is no canker in this truth,
Being pure to the core,
Pure as blood-marrow.

The stigma is gone out of it.
Holy is the anthem and the chorus
Sings a greeting to the little people
Who stand waiting in line.
They watch for some illumination
Of the dark letters written on their souls

Bandits would not deride them
	in such an instance.
Horses in a fever will trample words,
But words re-form; they cannot die.
You who bear the mystery,
Who cannot die,
You have palpated my heart
And signified a vast reference point,
Pleading to me with a sad song.

My turbulence is all inside me,
A stormy affair,
Always sorting and reeling back with shock
As the ivy vine climbs the ancient wall.
If you had no device,
Would you not read more books?

The man dignified in the third person
Will ask the questions here, mind you.
Return to me again loon of the wide lake,
Loon hiding in the reeds.
Show me your face before you fly,
And sound your voice in the evening.

Premium Member Nativity Play

(True story)

As nativity plays go, this one was a doozy
with plenty of chances to fail
and even after all the countless rehearsals
it did, on a Biblical scale.
My part, I was Joseph, and Barbara was Mary,
the Jesus doll wrapped in a sheet
three wise men in the wings with tea towels on their heads
plus trainers and pumps on their feet.
The donkey was resting, a little bizarre
since the creature was mounted on wheels
and in the light of the candles it's red plastic handle
just made the scene slightly surreal.
The stable was made from the school's Wendy house
for the play they used just two hinged walls
as the wise men came Joseph leaned back on one arm
and the whole structure started to fall.
The look from the prompt at the front of the stage
signified I was in real deep trouble
as the magi and shepherds all valiantly scrambled
to pull Mary from out of the rubble.
The infant child surfaced though held upside down
from the tangle of thatch straw and rafters
as his messenger Gabriel rolled on the floor
in a fit of hysterical laughter.
The following year I found I was demoted
as teacher didn't want to lose sleep
over what new disaster I'd find myself master
so I took the back row as a sheep.

Premium Member Bumbly Bee

Wrested from my writing by a drone
which signified that I was not alone
in its black and yellow jumper it had come
fat and furry, bigger than my thumb
it cruised around the room in lazy eights
before it worked itself into a state
against the window wings fizzed on the glass
as fruitlessly it struggled to get past
annoyed at every corner on inspection
too close to even see it's own reflection
the outside world all plainly in it's sight
but out of reach, no this cannot be right
it thought “the flowers in the garden I can see
but cannot fly to them- how can this bee?”
I pitied this paradox of aviation
for being in a desperate situation
it's compound eyes with panoramic view
blind to the neighbouring window it flew through.
“ I feel your pane” I told the frame inspector
too knackered now to gather any nectar
and went and fetched a beaker and some card
then scooped it up, released it in the yard.
We, too, in life in lazy circles go
until whatever circumstances throw
leaves us adrift, no chance of some release
we thrash round for solutions, have no peace
take on our problems close up, face to face
instead of stepping back and giving space
so we may then take in the wider view
the answer is nearby what we should do
so stop banging your head and then you'll see
you won't need glass and card.
Unlike the bee.

Cautiously Caught My Eye

Cautiously Caught My Eye

This saying cautiously caught my eye;
Should never let a poor dead horse lie
Not a sound,
Made around;
Go ahead and bury him and then cry.

Jim Horn

By Big Wings

By big wings we were forced to fly,
Even when wet or soon will be dry;
We flew in curves,
Small and swerves,
In and through clouds in the sky.

Can Be Choral Response

Moore created example becoming a moral;
Many responses were in form of a choral;
Lost cause became,
And him to blame;
Sins committed are both mental and moral.

Jim Horn

All Over Again Have To Start

All over again we will have to start,
Being someone had change of heart;
Could be contiguous,
About being ambiguous;
No one did prefer playing the part.

Jim Horn

Over and Then Done

Finished things and are over and done;
Now can rest by sighting in bright sun;
You did convey,
Not your way;
Way you wanted it was not the one.

Am putting up Christmas decorations.

Jim Horn

You Can Hardly Wait

Are things to do that you can hardly wait;
What I hope and wish is you appreciate;
Might be behind;
Changed my mind;
So another new idea decided to create.

Jim Horn

Words I Am Frequently Using

I have noticed that be, being and been,
Are words I used over and over again;
Unnerving;
Am deserving;
Next ones are how, where and when.

Signified Being Dignified

In social circles certain things are signified;
You are did determine to become dignified;
Pick and choose,
And if not loose;
Then later in life on myself still being relied.

Keepers of the Man Cave

Keepers of the "Man Cave"
A revelation dawned today
I've seen the refuge built
Where the boy in a man be saved

Sandbox space with trucks arrayed
Standing guard your sacred forts
Battles wars and raids dissuade
Your hearts from changing their course

Keepers of the "Man Cave"
Protectors of cyber space
Guarding testosterone sanctuaries
This teenage "sacred place"

Slaying your dragons on congenial battleground
Plastic guns hunt the miles cross hemispheres
Where the sound of "what the hell" resound
Joyfully filling the hours of your years

Keepers of the "Man Cave"
Fantasy football and Game Day paraphernalia
Seduction and booze hanging on your walls
Left women thinking it was life dysplasia

When in truth it's not that at all
The weight you carry O'the strain of man
Under constant burdens fearful you'll f

Keepers of the "Man Cave"

Hotties looking desirously toward you
Your reprieve from things still undone

Some of us know and even understand
Your right to the "Man Cave" anomaly
And the necessity for which it stands
The place to bear up under all life demands

Keepers of the "Man Cave"
Your work it never ends
And on YOU your family relies
Your eyes and shoulders shrouded in strength
But it's a long row to hoe for you guys

So when the weary comes to patronize
Let the boy in you have his day
It's a right of passage signified
A man can stand if he's given to play

Keep guard against perilous fight
For that boy in you keeps our man tender
And in your arms all our world is right

The Star

I based this rhyme on a short story by Arthur C Clarke ...

That star that shone bright in the East
on which the Magi's eyes did feast
What was it that was really seen
Perhaps a supernova it may have been

And if that distant dying sun
which signified a life begun
had a planet just like Terra
Could God have made a tragic error?

And did He even realise
despite His omnipresent eyes
that life existed on that world
Surely He watched as it unfurled

Why did He let life start at all
when He knew that it would fall
A billion years of evolution
wasted, 'coz of His 'solution'

Perhaps a lifeform existed there
A noble species, tall and fair
A species without war and strife
Intelligent and long of life

Surely another star would do
Our galaxy has quite a few
Why choose that star from all the sky
to briefly flare and then to die

Ten billion souls were sacrificed
A beacon for the birth of Christ
To wipe them from the firmament
was that really His intent?

So when He caused that star to blow
did He really never know
that He wiped life from that place
just to 'save' the human race

Fields of Pink

i often wondered why did October
in all of her beauty
become national breast cancer month

the trees bear resemblance to the sun
the yellow, orange, scarlet folds
softly spiraling in the cool winds
was it the red, as it tumbled down
a remembrance of blood shed
as lives were lost?

was it the bitter cold bite
that signified ending
and the bare trees
that followed
as fall exited?

as i looked around me
daybreak blushed across the sky
the trees lined the streets
flushed in reds and oranges
the dormant green grass
began yellowing around the edges
amidst all of this
were fields of pink
a thousand little flags
slow dancing in the wind
as leaves twirled around them
each flag depicting
a life touched
a battle fought
a win or loss
against this disease

i then realized
October's birthstone
pink tourmaline
is said to have many faces
express every mood
foster inner harmony
and strength
it all makes sense

as i look at each flag
i see faces of many
in my community
a battle they all fought
unwillingly
i see joy
i see sorrow
i see pain
a mother
a sister
an aunt
and i see memory
all together
in fields of pink
and i now understand...

Inspired by the high school children
I am proud to drive to school... they raised
over 1000 dollars for breast cancer
by selling these flags, the school grounds
are fields of pink and most the flags dedicated
to those lost...I dedicate this poem to them and
our community! Thanking them for the inspiration!

Per Ardua Ad Astra

Plentiful the storeroom as I return my kit
Everything an Airman needed for a career
Returned this last day

Air Force veteran is my new name
Retired medically for service injuries
Duty to Queen and Country
Until I could no more
And still it hurts to walk away

Aviation was my life’s passion
Destined to this career

Administrative duties
School, and a new beginning
Training and development consultant
Reinvented myself again
Airman always in my heart, until my life’s end.

Note (for the contest "Beginnings Matter" (Richard Lamoureux):

This first poem was somewhat intimidating, as I had not written in several years (almost two decades) for personal reasons. Deciding to submit this poem was actually quite cathartic (once I finally hit the submit button), as it signified that I had moved beyond what silenced my pen. Not only that, but the content of the poem signified a large portion of my life having come to a close and with closure came reality. That was more intimidating than putting proverbial pen to paper; reality is, once I came to that realization, I felt pretty good about posting this initial poem to "the Soup".

Heartstone Awakening Part2

trees whispered her name
for a queen was born
from a faerie and an archer
who had the soul of a poet
the love of his moondust
in an early summer dawn
a girl came in to this world
filled with magic and the love of all things

 aquila took his bow
drew forth an arrow
which the feathers were brown and gold
aimed towards the sky
and let it go
the arrow arced high
burst in to stars
that fell
among them
a star to carry
a star to keep
a star to remember
a new queen
that would join
all living things
under the forests of richest green

 the summer queen
laid a single leaf upon the child’s chest
it glowed, then shrank
became part of her
this, i had never seen
for the leaf
carried all of natures’ magic
in an extraordinary child
whose birth
signified all that is good
upon the great good earth

the queens and kings
the princes and princesses
all of heartstone
gathered
to see a tiny girl
who had the power of a single leaf
that lay close to her heart
that she knew
of the wise ways
that what lies within us
means, you are never alone

our tiny girl
who, in her time
would become the greatest living being
lay quietly in the great hall
surrounded by magic and majesty
past kings and queens
from above
their hearts filled with wonder
most of all,
love

the leaf as i came to know
came from the great earthen king
who had passed on long ago
that there is always a past
a history
that can never be broken
it will always last
forever heartstone
never alone

we celebrated until dawn broke
sweet faerie music filled the air
darting lights everywhere
whispering trees spoke
i felt within my heart
as i held my moondusts’ hand

Sir Raymond Smidrick

Sir Raymond Smidrick
He always walked with an air of royalty,
gaining entrance by tapping doors
with his finely carved, mahogany wood, walking cane
On the top of the staff was a sculpted silver lion,
he said it signified the lineage of kings
Most everyone in the neighborhood regarded him as a ghetto prince
A bit eccentric perhaps,
but he was a soft-spoken, interesting fellow
Wore his silk Windsor ascots always tucked perfectly
inside his checkered Belgian dinner jacket
People who grew up with him said he used to be simply called Ray,
but now he preferred to be called by his be-knighted title:
Sir Raymond Smidrick
Sir Raymond, if he chose to be addressed less formally
Word on the street has it,
that as a young man, his all-black Army battalion saved a French village
during WWII
This same village had previously been bequeathed to the queen of England
as an honorary gesture of the two nations' friendship
The story goes on to say that their whole battalion was invited to visit the
queen, and they had tea and crumpets, and she regaled them with
colorful tales of her ancestry
At the end of that auspicious day, the queen gave the men
the honorific knighthood title, Sir
That was a day that was held on to with pride by this peacock strutting man
Sir Raymond Smidrick
True ghetto royalty
He was later duly rewarded for those years of courageous service
and unquestioned loyalty,
when most of his government pension benefits were
unceremoniously reduced or cut
