Left tall and dry, lies the pillared maize forsaken.
Barren fields of corn, stand row by row.
When yellow ears have long been gathered,
a dusty crop has paid it's garnered due.
The dry stalks bend and dangle stiff remains,
and autumn winds return to whip batons and play.
The quiet fields tune harps and violins,
making harmony from husks, with swaying stalk refrains.

Watercolour Painted Skies

Watercolour painted skies of ochre tinged with grey;
early sunset settles on a dying autumn day.
Ancient oaks resplendently release their rain of gold,
crisp leaves catch the breeze to whisper secrets yet untold.

A richly coloured tapestry breathes fragrant melodies,
suffusing notes of amber with the scent of cedar trees;
distant joyful echoes as young laughter leaves the park,
heeding grown up warnings to be home before the dark.

The last remaining sunlight lies in ripples on the lake,
slowly yielding to the surface, leaving naught for eve to take.

Seasons come
And seasons go
In all of the above
Her colours flow

Just like pages
In a book
What the seasons bring
Are worth a look

Spring brings life
In many ways
The sun radiates
From warm awesome rays

The summer oozes
With blooms and colours
Greenery greens
Canopy covers

The winter decides
Who lives and dies
The reader dissects
In passionate cries

But the season for me
Are the Autumn Pages
It's decision to end
In colourful stages

This poem came to me as i was reading poems by Autumn Page.

"october Sky"

An October sky is like no other one....
A cool brisk wind and a clear bright sun....
The whispering breeze of wood burning....
Travels under my nose, and has my senses turning....
Little leaves of color fall so softly, exposing
this maple tree for all to see....
The days are short and the evenings come soon....
An October sky that enhances the moon....
A walk in the park as our feet shuffle through
the fallen leaves....
The children play on this Autumn day, with hints
of green from Summer it seems....
The clouds thicken nicely to make a ceiling for
this night....
For under an October sky, to me every things right...

East Wind

Der Wind aus Osten
Treibt schon Schnee über das Land
Am späten Herbsttag

The wind from the east
Drifts already snow across the land
At late autumn day

El viento del este
Ya flota nieve a través de la tierra
En un día de otoño

Twilight Song

Long shaded walks neath gilded canopies,
as Autumn’s twilight song proclaimed the cold
with words from lips of russet, aired with ease,
entwined with brittle leaves of bronze and gold
in muted tones; a whisper on a breeze,
that breathed of sun-kissed hands she used to hold;
of how an arctic moon upon her crept,
dissolving thoughts of Summer as she slept.

The wind did paint in pearl encrusted hue,
o’er fading hint of fragrant amber glow
with jewelled tears of frosty morning dew;
the pale sun all but chilled the earth below.
Of ashen light, a season born anew
brought wilderness and unrelenting snow
to smother hibernating Autumn spice;
entombed, with just her dreams, in lands of ice.

My Kentucky In Autumn

My Kentucky in Fall

Peaceful country roads winding through meadows and hills,
and golden rays kiss purple asters, tall ironweed and abundant goldenrod.
Gorgeous colors are greeting me despite the warning that drought
would hold them back this year.
Glowing yellows, warm reds and burning orange leaves are clinging
to the heavy branches, limbs swaying in the autumn breeze.
Fallen leaves dance to the music of the currents,
poison ivy vines wrap the stately maple in crimson.

Damp snapping turtles sun themselves on a rock in the creek,
while further up a blue heron is standing silently, watching the
slow flowing water, until he is ready to strike.

Our majestic Ohio river reflects the cloudless, azure sky
while bordered by densely covered cliffs that are
decked in their autumn finest.
Profusely blooming red cardinal vines cling to the rocky ledges
are kissed by happily buzzing bees and bouncing butterflies.

Pumpkins, ghosts and witches decorate porches and front doors,
gray barns are brimming with hay, tobacco and corn,
contently harboring their bounty.
Acorns, black walnuts and hickory nuts are plentiful, yet squirrels
do not seem in a hurry to bring in their winter supply.

Smiling, waving hikers are climbing the autumn scented hills
to Tioga Falls, and Virginia Creeper vines show pleasing colors
along the old Rail Road Bridge.
On the side of the road the lush cedars have developed
their silver-blue berries,
and wild rose bushes are displaying their red rose hips.
Autumn has come to my Kentucky.

Golden Arbor

Turning Autumn leaves,
Fading from yellow to gold;
Brazened by the sun.

Premium Member The Autumn Mist

Mellow autumn….how refreshing!
Draw nigh that my soul may find delight
In the vibrant hues of red and gold
The long walks in cool brisk air
Watching the wild geese fly south
In quiet solitude, latent dreams resurrect
They haunt my fragrant reverie
As I walk a familiar path, down these steps of stone,
That lead me to “my place” by the sea!
Where the cries of hungry seagulls resound
As they squabble over a miniscule meal,
Wild surf crash into boulders-twin, standing in its midst
Nonchalantly, I toss my loafers aside,
“Where are you today, Sir Knight?”, I inquire aloud
“I can not find you in this mist!”
“One moment you are here inside my thoughts
The instant I turn, then you are gone!”
Like ocean spray, refreshing, you then vanish!
So, here I stroll upon this desolate shore, alone

The fireplace lit, soft, pink candles abound
What ambiance these feelings inspire
"Where are you this dreamy day?"
Hear how fiercely the ocean roars!
Wild and relentless, bashing boulders in its path!
Winds softly whispering, brush my cheek, and instinctively, I smile
”Was that a kiss from you? I whisper. But there comes no reply.
Only the silence in the whispering wind
“Gentle, autumn winds, do you know of my fate?
“Have you no secrets to share with me?”
“Do tell, is it you in the mist and wind?”
“Or are you just a wandering phantom
Lost, upon this beautiful, shore?”
“Or, perhaps a magician from afar, casting random spells?”
“What grateful audience you have found in these,
The mighty sea and its countless creatures!
Listen! Hear their thunderous applause for you!”
“Is it you I see, in my autumn dream?
“Is it you within the mist?”

Premium Member Gracefully Bows As She Leaves

Forest alive now
Autumn colors brilliant glow
Poplar_ Maple grow
Colors seen_red, yellow, rust
Auroras of autumn flow

Elegantly dressed
For the last ball before snow
She smiles at artist
As he gathers paints blends shades
Painting her colorful gown

As sunlight dances
Against gown that glows with dew
Gracefully she bows
As bare limbs begin to show
Last of grace before first snow

Fall Is a Brewing

Outside October perches it's little feet
upon summer's fading scenery,
replacing marigolds with mums
and swapping tiki torches
for dimly lit jack o' lanterns,
illuminating midnight
with another seasons mysterious approach

and I cannot help but wonder
if fall had a heart,
to whom would it belong
(a fallen leaf,
the moon's cycloptic eye,
or perhaps someone of human descent)

an owl gazing restlessly
at the cool, autumn sky
seems to be interrogating God
with the same, single question
who, who, who

but no one answers

Premium Member Tamed By a Red Rose

I sat in the park
On a dark Autumn day
The rustle of leaves
Natures death bouquet

They swirled and spun
Around my park bench
What i witnessed next
Made my cold hands clench

Where the leaves dispersed
An angel appeared
Tattooed dressed in black
My life for i feared

On approach to me
My heart raced
A black angel
To me face to face

As i await my fate
She sees what i hold
There's a sadness in her
As tears start to unfold

She has spotted the red rose
I bought for my girl
As all around
The park started to swirl

Leaves flew
In sporadic directions
Tree's cried
Like hurtful infection

The sky darkened
As thunder rolled
One lightening flash
And lo and behold

As i raised my head
She was smelling the rose
Her feathers of black
In outward pose

Staring, watching
Trying to believe what I'm seeing
A black angel in the park
With a entranced human being

The clouds dispersed
Just as soon as they came
The tree's stood silent
And the leaves did the same

Her hands clasped
To her breast they close
This black angel cries
Tamed by a red rose
