Puttin On the Ritz - Just For You

Puttin on the Ritz - Just for You

Remember when I used to be dead broke,
and everyone laughed cause my dreams were a big joke?
Well I married a rich fellow and I’m rolling in dough.
Now I’m puttin on the ritz – it’s time for my show.

Visiting the old neighborhood, I’m sure feeling grand,
showing off my chauffeured Rolls Royce just because I can.
Watch me strut ‘cause I’ve been blessed by Lady Luck;
while you’re still frying chicken for a measly buck.

Oh, forgive me for I don’t always like to gloat;
but do check out my genuine animal print fur coat.
It’s no secret that Neiman Marcus is my main go-to store,
providing me with designer hats, purses, shoes, and more.

As for my fabulous make-up, make-over, and hairdo,
well they cost much more than you earn in a month or even two.
I see you’re ogling my sparkling jewelry and accessories,
Dahling, they were purchased exclusively from Tiffany’s.

Like leading ladies, Lombard, Rogers, Garbo, and Garland,
I ball room dance and jive to Callaway, Ellington, and Armstrong.
My oh my, indeed this lifestyle can make one become so giddy,
while gliding and sliding to these tunes can be quite heady.

I know jealousy is considered really uncouth and uncool,
but in your case, Sweetie, go ahead, it’s actually okay to drool.
Oh please note, my dear, I’m only passing through,
from Lenox Avenue back home to hoity-toity Park Avenue.

So for now, I'm here puttin on the ritz - just for you!

Puttin On the Ritz

Kevin Solomon 9/9/2015

The Lion and the Crown
Cobalt blue goblet and the spangled gown
Black tie and high browns
Puttin on the Ritz
Flappers dancing the Charleston
Jazz by Count Basie and Duke Ellington
Crazy dance moves like the Black Bottom, the Shimmy and the Turkey Trot
And the Cake Walk
The Tango and the Bunny Hop
The Fox Trot and the Lindy Hop
Roaring cars filling the crowded streets
Zoot suits and reap pleats
Wide leg Oxford Bags and cuffed trousers
Waistcoats, suspenders, bow-ties and knickerbockers
Ladies wearing make-up, bobbed hair, short fringed skirts and drinking
Bright colored sweaters, patent-leather hair, feather head bands and smoking
The glitz of New York
Not the grime of Detroit
Superstars
Forgetting who their real friends are
Blinded by the glitter and gleam
Forgetting you are only a human being
Going where Harlem flits
No guts no grits
The fancy rich and famous showing their glitz
Forget about the misfits
And come on down to the Ritz

Putting On the Ritz

Tip- tap-tipetty to!
Swing downtown now,
Why feel so blue?
The girls are dancing high kicks phew!
Leave your top hat on the pew,
Swing-swing-sing-a-song
Let them know that you belong!
Rhythm child, one-two- three- four,
If your’e cool you’ll pass the door,
To skip and dance and drink champagne,
Don’t hold back enjoy the game!
Ginger, Fred they’ll all be there
Ostrich feathers in their hair,
At the Cotton Club…one-two-three-four
Yes the Cotton Club... Oh give me more!

Take it away Mr Bumby!...trombone shrills,
Piano spills, the notes of fifty tapping spats,
Sounds of laughter, syncopated fits..let- it- go
We’re puttin on the Ritz!

it's saturday night time to put on-
the ritz put away the dull life dressupandmingle
live a dream leave this thing called my existence
me and my honey going high style
gonna rub noses with the noseinthesky type
smiles on their faces like wax statues
  watch the fashion show
fred astaire move your tapdancingspats over-
me and my honey
      are puttin on the ritz
jazz club big band music dance contest
                      music bursting with sound
we got it we know it all
    foxtrot
              waltz
tango maybe we will invent somemoves
the dancers moving like ripples through water-
me in my sparkling filmy flowing dress
showing off my heels and my fabulouslegspeeking
jewelry that swings as I spin dip and twirl
           like a dizzy butterfly
lost in a sea of nameless faces puttin on the ritz
oh my makeupisinpeccable pale and beautiful
my partner really knows how to swing
a walkingstick in his white glove
hands he's a million dollar trooper in spats
          and blacktuxedo
and we are gonna strut our stuff rub noses with
       the uppityups

"Puttin' On The Ritz"

Pleasing pleasure and laughter
Uptown on Lenox Avenue
To the music and beautiful, charismatic, night lights
The night is young
Intriguing with glamour and luxury the
Nightlife for Puttin on the Ritz

Out wearing my slinky, sexy sequin top to toe dress
New satin stiletto shoes to impress

Top hat, arrow collar, white spats, and tails my man is dressed like the Prince of Wales
Hand in hand, we dance with passion and grace in
Elegance of the adorn ballroom

Rhythm and dance
In riches and in style
Tonight exuberance
Zazzy, zizz, entertaining Puttin on the Ritz

A four piece string ensemble competes
with fluted crystal glasses harmonizing
to the tinkling of fine silverware
underpinned by the purring whispers
of well-to-do's and their hobnobbery.

Buttery lobster and rib-eyed supper in
opulent gravies and exotic spices;
cornucopia fruits on sterling platters
all floating about the ballroom on
white gloved tuxedos.

There’s a thick pretense in the air;
a high browed notion of superiority
reflected off each gold-fitted gemstone
amplified when ostensibly viewed
through a monocle lens.

I suppose it’s a lonely company they keep
esteeming each other as conquerors
by cordially extended handshake;
dodging and redirecting questions incessantly,
so as not to be rude, no doubt.

All the lavish excess of the night
is surpassed in every rise and fall
of her chest, as I contemplate silently
what fate has befallen that life, no more
beaming behind those sapphire eyes.

Empty sockets abound, lifelessly
betraying boisterous expressions of mirth.
Dancing corpses swig their Dom Perignon
forgetting for tonight, at least,
the toiling lilies of the field.

Puttin’ on the Ritz

She went to London where the gold-paved streets
glittered not in rainy foggy mornings.
In vain she knocked on doors in search of fame.

Uttered from beyond thick lighted cigars,
idle promises drifted hazily,
like suffocating smoke that filled the air.

Her talents never stood an acting chance,
but offers came dependant on her looks,
the long toned legs, attractive sex appeal.

Clinging to hope, she bit at proffered bait,
she gave her all, and acted at his will,
away from the bright lights of screen or stage.

She played the part of mistress to her man;
she lacked for nothing and lived like a queen,
but in the process she gave up her dreams.

She had the jewellery and choice of clothes
most fashionable and extravagant,
while hobnobbing with high society.

Sadly, she lived a life that was not hers,
following a dull script of make-belief.
Her heart was torn, her soul deceived and worn.

The pain within became too much to bear.
She knew no joy; had only grief to share.
Her life she took – a victim of despair.

Putting on the Ritz

Those weird faces
below glamorous make up,
The enormous laughs
under those debts,
Show off to whom
lesser privileged than you?
As those affluents
will never look at you !

Luxury of the motels
and wine in pubs,
Those night lusts
and hefty gifts,
Moving in bigger cars
owning king sized houses,
Best of attire
embellished in sapphire,
False faces of ritz
truth dumped deep within.

Whence our kids
crave for foods,
And poor naked in streets
are covered only in mist,
Longing for a meal
as hunger eats mankind.

Why can't we be modest
to accept in dignity,
When at the lounge we stand,
Counting our guests
wishing there was a miss,
Showing liberty at heart
that weeps on money shed,
Hard earnings wasted
on an imitation game,
Pocketed inside out ersatz,
Putting on the Ritz !

Puttin On the Ritz

Had an invite to a ball in Lake Tahoe
at the Ritz Carlton what a surprise.
To celebrate in true old fashioned style
opened a door couldn’t believe my eyes

The ballroom was all of a glitter
with walls of silk and panels of wood
Had brought in chandeliers shining like diamonds
the backdrop of Martis Valley looking good.

One whole wall was made of glass
showing a view nearly too much to bare.
I heard the sound of more guests
turned round, I couldn’t help but stare.

Here were ladies dressed in their finery
the gents in tuxedos and white starched shirts.
They gracefully walked to their tables
whilst the band tuned up ready to start.

What a night of pleasure,
we waltzed ‘til our feet were sore
Then we gathered the strength for a foxtrot,
we danced and danced even more.

Fireworks were set off in the gardens
Spiralling high in the night air
The sparkle of these were out dimmed
By the light in the eyes of folks here.

What a way to remember the old days
all dressed up, in a ballroom like this,
The last waltz is played, looked around me
We all had enjoyed Puttin on the Ritz.

Puttin On the Ritz

The highest of the class with lots of flowing cash,
with gorgeous eveningball gowns and tuxes with the sash.
They come to drink and dance the night away,
And no one goes home till they see the light of day.

The expensive luxurious cars that come and go,
traveling miles from a distance to get to the show.
The men watch and admire the women on the sly,
as the ladies sashay across the room to catch a wondering eye.

The horns start to blowin and the base gets to bumpin,
And shortly after that this joint starts to jumpin.
The men grab the ladies hands and lead them to the stage,
and before you know it everyone's dancing up the latest rage.

The ladies stay cute and the men stay cool,
never lose your cool that's the golden rule.
Dancing up a storm all to the latest hits,
Now that's what's known as Puttin On The Ritz.

'Ritz Tower, Night' 1920's Painted by Georgia O'Keefe

They closed the day behind them, and scurried to the hive
Inside a honeycomb of cells, a filing cabinet filled of lives
The night in black and blue enshrouds the city's tallest mast
As evening beckoned heads to rest, with yellow window glass
That overlooks the narrow streets, from a tower of the past

Puttin On the Ritz

Head to toe seduction is bliss
Her bed to show her suction is missed
Lips red perky and plump
Her hips twerky her stance is slumpt
Big ass with bigger ****
This girl is known for "putting on the Ritz"
From her jaw line to her tan line you can't help but get lost
The body of a goddess topped with hair thats just tossed
Biting her lip so sexy and cunning
Knowing all the boys soon will come running
This girl is no hussy no tramp of the night
This girl is pure sin with the stamp of delight
Curling her fingers to get you in her mitts
This girl is quite known for "putting on the Ritz"
She doesn't dabble with fishnets or long socks
She only straddles big checks with long cocks
A prowler of the night dressed to kill
She's anyone's lady for the night for just 1 bill
No tens no twenties no fifties will do
She only takes hundreds I promise its true
Shell ride you like a barebacked bronco
Taking you to places you never thought you could go
Screaming and shaking as you near the climax
She simply smiles and says its time to relax
For hours and hours she'll give you great dome
Only to leave your pockets empty as you make your way home
She has no shame in this game of witz
To her she's just a lady puttin on the Ritz

Understated, that's the way
we put on the Ritz in country towns.
Flashing bellies, no no no.
We do the Ritz in our own way.

It's glamorous, for sure
in country towns -
but open wallets, no no no...
Not the way at all.

Our girls have stick-on hair,
but not the blue type, no no no.
They dance and sing the whole night long,
but it's the Ritz sans raz-MA-taz.

For sure, they leave their ma's at home,
for they don't - no no no.
The ma's watch Fred Astaire instead,
and do a jig before their bed.

"Razzmatazz" has two groups of "z", but I put
them as one each time, as it gives it too heavy
a tone otherwise.

Putin on the ritz -
He’s crackers,
Without pizzazz,
the cheese.

Without Putin -
Ukranians ease,
Seize the day,
Say, “Yes, please,” -
to better reality.
