What happened to Chivalry?

I believe women plotted to kill him.
stabbed him in the back 
while he leaned over affectionately.

He was merely asking
for attention, showing compassion.
And she, in her frilly gown, showed
him the moon.

Pointed out the stars 
with one hand
and made him suffer 
with the other.
