When I was a child everyone’s mother on my block corrected me.
Every adult in the neighborhood watched me vigilantly, carefully.
Watching for me to do something wrong,
So they could call my mother.
On the way to school I sometimes took a risk,
Knowing full well I’d get a spanking when I got home.
Sometimes it was worth it.
On a daily basis, I was called to a variety of porches to apologize.
This was the 60’s
In a small Iowa town.
It’s the way it was.
None of us questioned it.
One Wednesday Mr. Joe
Came out on his porch
And yelled, “If you don’t stop dawdling,
You’ll be late for the bell!”
We did not know what dawdling was,
But my sister and I ran to school,
Sliding into our desk seats seconds
Before the bell rang.
Mr. Joe had saved us from
Staying after school with the teacher.
We started waving at him every day after that.
“We are going to play hooky” I told my twin sister one fine day.
We were on our way back to second grade, after a hot bowl of
Tomato soup with a zillion crackers, and an ice cold milk I refused
To drink because I hate milk.
When Mom’s car pulled up
My blood ran cold.
My sister started screaming and
Ran right to her.
I was much more difficult to catch.
Neighbors ran out to tell her where
I was hiding every fifteen feet.
I got switched all the way
Back to school,
And decided I hated
Neighbors.
No child could have been
Snatched by a stranger
In my home town in
The 60’s.
They would have had him
Down on the ground under
 A sea of knees before
He finished his first
Sentence to us kids.
We were loved, protected, and raised by everybody.
Watched as closely as caramel candy at Christmas time.

Thinking of Suzanne - Raised On Radio

Thinking of Suzanne – Raised on Radio

Raised on radio, I still listen
to haunting love songs that sadly
remind me of you, lovely Suzanne,
of times when we couldn’t get enough
of each other, body and soul blazing with fire.
Oh Baby, I prayed with all my heart
that it could have been you;
you with the eyes of a woman,
so perceptive, so desirable, and so in love;
you with your soft, warm, positive touch,
that arouses and electrifies all my senses;
always unselfishly happy to give
totally and unconditionally to me.
But now you say it’s all over.
You say you don’t love me anymore.
Please stay, don’t take the magic away.
Why can’t this night go on forever?
Oh girl, can’t help it, you’re my life;
and once you love somebody,
letting go is the hardest thing to do.
But somehow, I’ll survive and
I’ll be alright without you.
So my sweet love, be good to yourself,
and just know this man will think of you,
when our special song plays on the radio.

Premium Member You Raised Me Higher

YOU RAISED ME HIGHER

Lord, you raised me from a child
Have stood by me as I walk miles
Trying to find faith and peace
A home, a friendly face, at least
I had no home, no parents, and no friends
The trauma I saw, I didn’t think would end
As I grew in darkness, I grew in your light
I saw two sides of people, like day and night

Lord, as I grew older, I learned to be
The greatest version you gave me
My soul is pure, and my vision was clear
You always helped me when in fear

I moved away from the rock, at Seventeen
I was full of hope, so full of dreams
I got to live, for six beautiful years
I laughed out loud with friends, I shed no tears

But, at Twenty-two I was brought down
Life was taken from my body, dreams crushed on the ground
And you always stood by, protecting me
While I met the hell, everyone refused to see

Lord, you raised me up higher, when I fell down
You kept my mind and soul, safe and sound
When I prayed for hope at all cost
You always raised me up when I was lost

Lord, they broke my body, and almost my mind
I fought a cruel system, lost in so many crimes
Years passed slowly, but, I refused to give in
I believed there was more, Lord, you were my friend

Thirty-five years later, I'm stronger, I am still alive
I broke all their rules because I would not comply
Now I sit in my home, in peace and faith
I see a different future, I'm in a different place

My mind is power, I am light
Now, I guide your angels, day and night
And what you speak, I freely share
To let them know there is someone always there

I survived much more, my angels, you will too
Look closely at your real mind, God shows a truth
Nothing in the darkness can take you down
Unless you make it the king and give it a crown.....

Expressions so deep that I feel within,
Has made me realize, it's time to begin.

Thoughts so tender and abrupt as well,
Exuberant so few that I just can't tell.

Capturing the essence of what it is to be,
Learning to be gentle and living so free.

The virtues of many will always fall,
As the foundations fail the Almighty shall call.

Reminiscing, of course, is good for awhile,
But not all memories are replaced by a smile.

And find one day you may just succeed,
To live your life with little to need.

For time is a luxury that no one can afford,
Death is always approaching with his raised sword.

To the Woman Who Loved and Raised Me

To the woman who loved and raised me
To her who brought meaning of life at home
A queen who reigned supreme without a crown
She cared and valued mine life as her own
Willing to give up her life for mine sake
For nine moons her life was at stake
She was the angel who sang and smiled for me
She told me the sweetest and most beautiful words
That I will ever hear
She raised me without fear
She taught me to speak and listen
She showed me how to bow and pray
Her arms were always open whenever I needed a hug
She understood when I needed a friend
Her strength and loves remains even today guiding me
Lastly she gave me wings to fly
Thanks mum

I Was Raised On a Little Old Farm

I was raised on a little old farm

by my daddy who raised pigs in a barn

my mama well what can I say

she helped my daddy on our farm everyday.

I have two sister and two brothers

we tried to always help out one other

it was just a simple life when I was raised in the 50s.

I was raised on a little old farm

we plowed our corn fields with our old gray tractor.

because our pigs had to be feed

we shucked off lots of corn

to put way in old corn shed.

As hard as my daddy worked everyday

mama and him taught us good

values that still stays with all of this

to this day.

I was raised on a little old farm

my daddy worked as a Iron worker in the day

but on some days after daddy got home

he worked and added rooms to our old home.

Money was tight while raising 5 kids

but mama always seem to keep us all fed.

But we knew everyday mama and daddy loved us even if the

words[ I love you] was not offen said.

I was raised on a little old farm

in the winter we took time to ice skate

in the back field on a swampy like pond.

it was great living on a long dirt road

with our neighbors the Boggs who had

seven children of there own.

I was raised on a little old farm

and I am going to try to tell daddy story's

about or farm life to each grandchild in the

family that is born.

I hope you enjoyed this poem

because soon we well be selling

our childhood home.

I was raised on a little old farm.

Raised

I KNOW I SAW HIM YESTERDAY
HE SPOKE TO ME OF LOVE
"IT COMES WITH A FRIEND"
HE SAID."ONE FROM UP ABOVE".
THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED
WITH HIS HEALTH
QUIETLY HE PASSED AWAY
RELATIVES AND FRIENDS
WEPT AND PRAYED
FOUR DAYS SEALED
WITHIN THE TOMB
WHEN HIS BEST FRIEND
CAME TO SEE, MANY TEARS
HIS BEST FRIEND SHED.
THEN IN A LOUD VOICE
AND THANKFUL PRAYER
CAME TRUTH, WITHOUT A LIE.
"COME OUT MY BROTHER
FOR YOU WILL LIVE
AND NEVER SHALL YOU DIE".

Premium Member Remembrances of a Girl Raised On Radio

A child of the 60’s, I was raised on radio.
Times were changing, and it was a great time to live,
for the songs made you want to be good to yourself,
be happy to love and be happy to give!

By ‘69, with cosmetics I played.
The eyes of a woman from that decade were a sight!
Our lashes were long, dark and so thick,
our lips pink and frosty; our mini-skirts tight.

In my fourteenth summer, one warm southern night
I dated a man with a positive touch.
The saying “Why can’t this night go on forever”
turns real once you love somebody so much!

The man I was crazy for lived far away,
and the year 1970 soon came along.
“Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you.”
I sighed as I listened to James Taylor’s song.

A girl can’t help it when so young and in love.
All the radio‘s sad songs made me feel blue.
To the man who had jilted me, I’d learn to say,
“It could have been you, but I’ll be fine without you!”

My Father Raised Roses

My father raised roses from the very root
they grew in straight, taunt, magnificent shoots.
They stretched high determined to touch the sky’s very brink
in blooms of mammoth reds, whites, yellows and pinks.
They caught the eye with scented perfumed fragrance
that aroused the senses of every passers glance.
Long stemmed, petal laden tight budding beauties
that swayed rhythmically in the wind as if by duty.
Sightseers awed as nature’s bounty prevailed
and he pruned and tended them each day without fail.
They gave him both joy and pleasure,
a satisfaction he found nothing else could measure.
In his garden he kept his dreams in secret quiet solitude
strengthened by persistence and tenacity imbued.
In his heart lay some inner deeper beauty flowing
from the scented rose to a hidden unknowing
    that would be forever him.
I went by the house today
so many years after he had passed away.
Everything was changed, not a rose or bush to spare,
and the garden - it was no longer there.
Only with my eyes tightly closed
could I see and recall the beauty of the rose.
The saying then is true for all women and men
you never can go home again.
Everything changes and passes into time,
for a moment, brief as it was, I saw it in my mind.
I saw him - just as I remembered, in his element, well and alive
tending each bud and blossom where he once thrived.
I wanted to embrace, wrap him close against my breast
but the vision was his and I was but a guest.

Premium Member Suzanne--Raised On Radio

Suzanne has the eyes of a woman, but the heart of a lonely child
She was raised on the radio, as an escape from the world
in a house without love, or the warmth of a smile.
No positive touch, to guide her along
No one to hold her, when lost, or alone, but will grow to be strong in spite of it all

The girl can't help it, she has something to tell
Happy to give what she's learned about love
That to be good to yourself, is the first golden rule
Once you love somebody, and they love in return,
you can learn how to say, "I'll be alright without you"

Suzanne has the eyes of a woman, and a song in her heart
She understands pain, but has grown to be smart
and a part of her knows to be strong, on her own
She once felt alone, but learned to be free
One flip of a coin,....it could have been you, it could have been me.

There once was a child.....raised on the radio
spending long nights in a much kinder world
Dreaming of rainbows, to take her away
and sailing on oceans of air waves all day

Ever watching as stars glisten in moonlight,
often while asking the man in the moon,
never for certain that someone might listen...
"Why can't this night go on forever?"

Raised From the Dead

three women with points on their licenses to the tomb of Jesus they ventured
as they had a love for our Savior that was totally uncensored
they were told that the Roman soldiers over His tomb were standing guard
but they had a need to consecrate His body that compelled them to do their part
it was risky and unreasonable in the minds of most
but man's reasoning has no value when it comes to our Heavenly Host
to do the impossible that is what they desired
and with the power of the Holy Spirit they were then inspired
to walk by faith and not by sight guided by God's spiritual light

and when those women got to the tomb they then discovered
that the sepulcher of Jesus was now uncovered
no Roman soldiers were in sight
just an Angel of God wearing raiment snow white
"fear not" the Angel said, for the prophecy has been fulfilled
the Messiah Jesus has risen from the dead for it is God's will
the mighty stone had been rolled away
it was a bold godly display

do you know that God will roll away any stone that impedes your life?
as He rolled away the stone at the tomb of His beloved Son Jesus the Christ
to be raised from the death of corruption and sin
restored, renewed, revived and born again
raised up from societal barriers of destruction
now a new creation in Christ's gospel production
the Lord desires that we live abundantly
and to walk with the power of His authority
so never forget the sacrifice and the blood that was shed
when Jesus the Christ by the hand of God was raised from the dead

The Raised Mound

the raised mound
resulted in change some felt oddly profound
suddenly taller
vertiginous fear has affected the smaller.

The Raised Hand

THE RAISED HAND

‘Hold my hand’ said the mom, breezing across with a raised hand;
The traffic obeyed her hand; the boy too held on and ran across.
I learned a lesson; waving my hand like a leader, I tried to cross.
Brakes were pressed; wheels avoided me; I stood with one hand,

Frozen in mid-road; ‘crazy fellow’ shouts circled me and my hand.
They made me a ramp, nay; a statue; moms and boys still ran across,
As I stood there still; girls giggled; some winked; slowly I tried to cross;
A look of surprise stilled the road as I walked across with my hand.

‘The sixty year statue on Parker road vanished’ tweets trended in android;
Soon WhatsApp made videos viral; trips were made to look at the ramp,
Built in memory there soon after; built to appease many a Tabloid,

With a raised hand; pedestrians take selfies with the hand in android;
Girls ask boys to take them to the road, to the hand and to the ramp.
On the road, time stood still once, my hand stands like an eternal Tabloid.

I Was Raised

I was raised by dark smoke filled rooms,
sittin in the corner where the fear looms.
Across the hall where the fear hides,
The room long and wide.
Down the stairs,
 My anger flares.
In the kitchen where there is little food,
Which only darkens my mood.
My body shaken,
My anger awaken.
This first half of my life I wished to die,
some may wonder why.
But they wont know how it was,
until they experiance it because,
It wasnt fun for a girl,
alone in this world.

Her Raised Feet In the Air

Parting those slender legs she raised her bare feet in the air,
she was fully ready with her slim body resting on the palms,
next moment she threw herself--a perfect landing on her feet.
