Premium Member Brand New Portmanteau

January is the incunabula of the year
I embrace hugely like my huggable teddy bear
With my new life’s portmanteau inexorably handed over
On that last starry night of a very cold and joyful December

A new portmanteau of life’s flavors and condiments
Portions of joys, pains and many life’s challenges
Mysteriously packed all for me in hope to gird up
To follow whatever roads with valor, love, faith and delight.

I’m eagerly looking forward to what are all in store
Perking up with wonder on a brand new portmanteau as I go aboard
Wanting to share with you whatever great surprises that I may hold
In loving wishes that New Year for you unfolds with moments of gold

May I share with you a New Year's poem I wrote last night/early morning. Once again, my warm greetings of belated happy New Year 2015!

Scarlet Portmanteau

Duke Luke by his bateau
Arrived at his chateau,
Had he travelled through large eau!

His mysterious rendez-vous
with Henry Thoreau
Yielded him a scarlet portmanteau.

Entering his bureau,
he took off his manteau
and opened the portmanteau:

The Snow Man was inside
And though not well could he sing,
Sang he a song of himself:

Stopping by woods on a snowy evening
He met Annabel Lee on a large shelf,
Frightened he was by the raven
And took the road not taken:

Crossed he the mending wall
And hearing the anecdote of the jar
To noble savage Billy Budd an honest fare he paid

Large and far
Travelled he
From spring to fall

Self-reliance: the idea he hath
The American Scholar guided his path;

He slept a long time
In a clean well-lighted place;

One winter he woke up
In a station of the metro:
He fastened his tender buttons
and found a red wheelbarrow;
'No ideas but in things' -
A lovely image this brings!

To his disappointment and sorrow,
He never saw the snows of Kilimanjaro.

Duke Luke in disbelief
Wiped his eyes
And pinched his ears;

The Snow Man disappeared.

Duke Luke
Took a look
At his portmanteau
In hopes of seeing something

He found

Nothing.

letting SNARK sayings flow from his narcissitic persona

A lovely lady dressed to the hilt

Across the cobbled train yard

Displaying an air of refined richness

                      Which adorned her every move

Rich in wordly goods and in social grace

He only had the appearance of riches

Not a cent to his name

Definitely lacking in social graces, arrogance was his game

But could he do magic

       And TOMFOOLERY everyone

Across the cobbled train yard with his eyes on the prize

He fell ASPRAWLING entangled in a slight crack in the neat cobblestones

Prostrate upon the cobblestone with verbage of a sailor flowing from his lips

Premium Member Portmanteau Word

Democracy is a portmanteau word
People in power, it’s well understood
The power is huge, and the people are not
They give power to a few who sound good
And those representatives are ruling class
They don’t smell like “demos” at all
But they like to be chosen by them, or by us
As democracy fable is told
But there is a sweet paradox I discovered
The assortment of those who campaign
Can’t recognize that it’s people in power
Because ruling’s an elitist game
Plain people aren’t very ‘elite’, to be frank
It’s believed they are not that refined
So what it boils down to is the front rank
Of the very top people aligned
But do you believe it? I doubt if you can
Considering what’s on the list
And what is prepared for us by those men
Looks not too enticing, at least.

to allow the wait staff to use a cart to serve buffet style while
the actual line at the buffet could move along evening up
