Best Pilfering Poems
Wonderful wonders woven within wild.
Titillates theatrical tender thoughts
Consistently creation, contrives conservation concerns.
Ecology evolves equations, entitling entities essence.
Empowering equality, enlarges existence.
Life lovingly leases Longevity.
Biodiversity braces, blatant brutal balding.
Deforestation, destruction devoid due definition.
People physically, plundering planet.
Prevalently procuring, products proscribed
Pilfering practices producing poisonous pollutants.
Greenhouse gases generated, generously grievous.
Temperate temperature’s tempers tumultuous.
Creating Climate changes, causing catastrophes.
Planet purges peril predominately.
Preached, placid platitudes, politicians podiums paced.
loved lives logged listed lost.
Lacuna languished, lessons least learnt.
Losing Life lingers, listing leeward lazily.

In a market outdoors one day, Pam
was caught pilfering using a pram.
Fast away that lass flew
on the back of a ewe.
One might say she was then "on the lamb!"

Of Western Red Cedar, totems are made
Though few have been built in the last decade
Tribal emblems speak of lost lives with pride
Striking they appear as storm clouds collide
The Ojibwe graveyards can still be seen
As in reverence visitors convene
Symbols of Native American tribes
With colorful markings they are inscribed
Homage is paid to a culture now lost
Many died in battle, paid such a cost
As thunder rumbles, it chills the viewers
They know that white men were the wrongdoers
Pilfering land and breaking trust offered
Treaties ignored as land filled their coffers

After the sun sets
Before the moon peeks
Coldly over frosted ponds
Daylight hovers behind the curtain
Enjoying a cup of darkness
Flirting with the shadows
Gliding easily across the stage
Hungering for its moment
Irrepressible in its need
Jabbering about night’s ego
Kidding with old stars
Longing for the comeback of
Memory’s yellowed edges
Nighttime’s thieves pilfering
The vibrant vistas
Of daybreak’s dreams

My glass life half empty,
Never like you or them,
Catalyzed by forsaken neglect,
Abandoned with the breeze,
Catapulted into your world of torment,
Sparkling spirit lost its glimmer,
Ebbing amidst flawed philosophies,
Breathing cynicism into existence.
Save me from this despondency,
And soothe my demons,
Requisitioning the essence of
My everything,
Pilfering what I'm meant to be.
Shadows of doubt,
Splintering my quintessence,
Inundated by echoing relics of my past;
Silence these fragmented reflections
That plague me.
Aching for the flicker of a
New dawning, to
Encompass every broken part of me.

A preening promiscuous princess posed as "Penelope Prude."
With her poodle and parasol; well-perfumed, on Pine Street she stood.
A pompous pilfering pimp with a pink-painted poodle passed by.
He paused, popped his eyes, then approached while plotting to pounce and ply
the princess with persimmons and pearls, prepared to profit from her,
but Penelope quipped, “Poppycock! I’m a capitalistic entrepreneur!”

When stretched forever is my day
I while the empty hours away
in courtrooms dank with men of silk
proud and tall
lawmakers all
step lightly lest you meet their ilk
Attorneys and stenographers
lawyers and interpreters
each word they spake is tongue-in-cheek;
lear-ned judges, advocates
prosecutors, barristers
spew Latin which could well be Greek
The courtroom's packed
the gallery stacked
the charge is one of pilfering
the bookie sets
last-minute bets:
"10 to 1 his head will swing."
From the ord'ly
fing'ring his rosary:
"Court's in session! Silence! Zip it!"
His Lordship enters
sans his dentures
sucks his thumb and looks decrepit
Eyes his gavel
sneers: "You're evil!
my thumb is swollen and beet-red
you'll be detained
when next again
I miss and hit my thumb instead.
"The weather vane
predicted rain
today I'll suffer agony
you caveman's hammer
how did you
till now escape technology?"
To put it mild,
the crowd goes wild
but for the shifty-eyed accused
Judge Weatherstorm
stays true to form:
he keeps his audience amused
Th' accused meanwhile
with comely smile
winks at M'Lord to cut him slack
he'll cop a plea
of not guilty
tho' evidence against him's stacked
The star witness
non compos mentis
brain well-addled by Alzheimer's
mounts the stand
bows to his fans
with clenched fist vows the truth to utter ...

~There Was a Time~
There was a time when I would look
out over the azure glory of a Michigan lake,
or tear up from the umber-brown beauty
of Grand Canyon in the Arizona sun.
There was a time when I smelled
the fragrance of fresh baked bread
when east winds blessed us with the aroma
from our neighborhood bakery.
There was a time when I could hear
Elvis singing on my neighbor’s hi-fi
without the head shaking sound
of a wooferized bass.
There was a time when I hopped
aboard moving freight trains
or climbed the tallest water towers,
indifferent to the loss of life and limb.
There was a time when Doug and I slinked
through harvesting backyards
pilfering grapes and teasing dogs,
ever mindful of how long the leashes were.
There was a time when I could eat
a box of Girl Scout cookies
as I watched ‘Cavalcade of Sports’
and never gain a pound.
And there was a time when I never felt
the cold as I scurried up and down
the sledding hill at Bancroft Park
with my Flexible Flyer proudly in hand.

At cockcrow, I head down to the river, forsaking my little log cabin situated in the dense forest till dusk, which was strongly built by my endemic hands. I have no compulsion for rods and hooks, no bait. I have my ways. I be sincerely unwanted at the riverside. Others be fearful of my gruff, contemptible guise and demeanour. Fearful that I'd snipe their catch or peck their lunch. Incomprehensible! Hence, I descend the forested hill on which I dwell in the purpose of pilfering the village of food.
I plead the inhabitants for at least a bantam amount of vittles but it is nearabout in vain. All individuals barring an altruistic gardener be scornful towards me. He understands my plight as well as harking what myself alleges. He feeds me his residual edibles. It's his generosity that keeps me alive.
When I be passing the villagers shun me and ensconce me from their young'uns. When I be nigh to them I be able to hear mutterings under breath:
"Undesirable,"
"Accursed tramp,"
and an occasional"Eavesdropper!"
That's what they entitle me but I possess a name. I did not merely crawl up out of the loam and come into existence. I did not start off as an abominable creature spawned on the riverbed (some consider I presently be just that). I be correctly known as Grey, I be named Heron Grey.

Limerick
In an attempt to establish an uncertain linkage between 2 parables,
Ivo Torena resorted to impress his colleagues all night long; hence,
awkward as a cow on a crutch, he was cowed into pilfering bananas,
and when he was caught red-handed by the deputy, his eyes showed
no response even though his arteries were friendly. Thus, a series of
tribulations took place inside his troubled mind for outlandish
reasons, and his whereabouts were commended by one of the top
enemies of the state: The twerp from Antwerp. On a serious note,
a cabal of notorious hotshots devised an agenda to unnerve Ivo
until the cow comes home. Still and all, Torena has a truly unique
composure, unlike the belligerent Belgian, and his mannerisms
can't be reciprocated with ease. Furthermore, the notoriety with
which he prattled and sprattled was momentous! His uneventful
birth can't hold a candle to any cinematographic invention although
his water bottle company is a candle in the wind and the pieces
begin to assemble duly without second thoughts whatsoever.

Mesmerized and delighted.

In bridled hovel on denuded strand
Tanned damsel loiters on barter stand
Waiting for purloined fealty her title to brand
Festooned in ritual garb, decked with lavish garland
As noble peacock, her fecund colors are fanned
Waiting eligible suitors her utility, virility to scan
Her father a lofty price doth rightly command
To root out pilfering charlatan, worthless brigand
A reputable family with aspirations noble, grand
Bids for the honor of reticent, sheltered hand
Her elder for propriety doth initial offers withstand
Until the esteemed value of his ward family doth understand
A suitable piece of fertile lowland he indignantly demands
In order his tribal status and perpetuity to expand
With gratuitous stipend in token parlance panned
In customary deference, contrite bride accepts husband
