I Got Her

motherhood is fraught with mistakes
hanging from her charm bracelet

hourglass wrist; anchor was hooked
she’s silent as I longed for her to erupt

I needed her warm ear, not judgment
one thing I did wrong; not the worst

much later she stabbed me with her kiss
those lips left a saturated wound; grab chest

I was brave; I handed her the tray of hurt
oh how quickly, blinking tears, she apologized

I hang that memory on my high school bracelet
I tuck it away to reuse when I ostracize progeny

air punches like exhales, soft hands, soft heart
must lay out my cards - she was better than the rest

some moms are rabid, some too friendly
I found my mom just right; her sayings wrong

she advises me, “There’s more fish in the boat.”
I lay down the ace, “Yes, Mom, and they’re all dead.”

she’d fall upstairs, get blood poisoning, eventually cancer,
loved her soaps, got news from the tabloids - I got her!

Cuba

Cuba…Mamma Mia…like most of the Caribbean; part of the 1492 slam…
Slavery, sugar plantations… invasions, upheaval, independence…
Then the American kisses; with a slight twist…who initiated the ’disses’…?
Was it Blaine…is he insane…?
Was it Marti…the heart of the party…?
Or Teller…many say he was the real speller…
Or Estrada Palma…could he have been the calmer…?
Was it San Martin…any questions of his parting…?
Or was it Batista…is he the real twister…?
With his interwove of expansion…then stagnation and dissatisfaction…
Coupled with his increased economic regulation plan…
Was this the spike for the revolution…?
Enter Castro; was he the real maestro…his thoughts, his plans; communize the land…?
Centralize, non-democratize…ostracize, reorganize…
The politics…were they laden in tricks…?
The CIA; not here to stay… but what role did they play…?
When they realize the RAF size…what will they emphasize…?
With great plans to defeat…did they end in retreat…?
Now with Eisenhower…speculations of a great shower…
But after only months…fixation shift to ouster hunts…
Severed diplomatic relations…the new sensation…
Impositions of trade embargo…the ‘Fargo’ in my cargo…?
The ‘Bay of Pigs’…will you understand the gigs…?
The ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’…what was this Tri-fit…?
The military games…were these substances in flames…?
For a superpower war…or the everlasting scars…?
Of suppression, political persecution…migration, and interventions…
In Angola, and Ethiopia…from Nicaragua to North Africa…
To the Congo…to some say; ‘Jah Mek Yah’…?
Cooperation with Russia…was this the real crusher…?
The mid-eighties…the beginning of their ending gaiety’s…?
The dissolving of the Soviet Union…continuation of the country’s isolations…
Reduced rations…the new fashion…
Unpainted buildings…now the in-thing…
Old vehicles with limited repairs…any scares…?
Lack of electricity…did it colour the ethnicity…?
A country on the verge…is there a new urge…?
Tourist attraction…one logical concoction…
Amidst the flow…of system many Cubans know…
The US now attests…it is in the country’s interest…
Cuba has withstood the test…put the embargo to rest…?

A Woman's Wrath

During the dark dreary cold winter weather
There're times of sunshine and warm rather,
Likewise the moods of a woman you can't trust
Soft as snowflakes at times or cold hard crust.

Hotter than fiercer fire or colder than ice,
Happy or sad - Oh, you'll pay the price!
Placid or provoked, she carries a punch
making the best of us a sore-looking bunch.

Do not step out into this raging storm,
Crawl under the covers and stay warm,
Let the wailing, veering wind pass you by,
Just stay put until you see a clear blue sky.

You may censure me, you can ostracize,
Oh, do review thy lady ere you patronize--
Thus I forewarn the brethren of my ilk,
Fall not for fair face and skin soft as silk.

Sarcasm

Cheeks flush and sweaty palms
An awkward, deceiving laugh

A sloppy coat, self esteem based balm
Disguising my visible half

Ive been told, I'm distastefully odd
People love to ostracize

Holding back tears as they poke and prod
It helps them to feel alive

They can smell it from a mile away
A lack of confidence, that is

Lips curled, ready to play
A class of the "popular" kids

Making fun of myself, hiding the throb
I refuse to expose the pain

Though, their doing an excellent job
Slaughtering my name

They label this behavior sarcastic
Some can't take a joke

I say they're made of plastic
Catching a high every time they poke

Why Remind Columbine?

Happy Anniversary?
Annual "remembrance" and contemplation...
Why the highlights of these low times?
Absent minded ,heartless hate crimes
debased insane lost children wielding weapons

Lets spike the ratings...point lenses at this loss
cover the whole like bitter unfeeling frost
Compassionate~~ is how they come across..
yet the exposure compounds the occurrences
amplifies minor disturbances
Attention turns inward angst to outer turbulence

Focus on outside stimuli, asking why?
Creating worlds of total shallow souls that buy
training minds to not see beyond those lines
making name-brand zombies quick to ostracize
those not fitting these molds you made
those not finding a square role to play
     not conforming
               then transforming, morphing
                   struggling deflection defeats never absorbing

But what of the war fought at home?
Parents loathing life leaving children alone
human nature is part inherent/ part learned
priorities made the tide turn, not teaching made the sky burn...
Do you believe life's value has diminished in the eyes of children
or they have no perception of what we haven't taught them???

I Age

Between us there is only place for tears and sighs
I’m right you wrong
I can’t stand that
I can’t stand this
I’m the queen
I'm superior
I'm the star
I’m the sun
I'm perfect
I'm better
I want
I need
I’m it
I....
I....
I...

All the sudden our world is full of "i"s
The u in us is now just two disjointed "i"s
All is fading, so is it worth it to keep the ties
When the love is long gone from each other eyes

I’m jealous of the us who used to touch the skies
Flying free, careless and happy like butterflies
Just two souls that didn’t care about the why's
Focusing on creating a world free of lies.

Now all the beauty is replaced by hidden guise.
That pride and prejudgments have jeopardize.
The us that once Inspired other’s envies, now agonize
and we’ve just became two specimens that others analyze.

I hate the "i" that refuses to understand the ultimate demise
the “I” that keeps hoping and begging for a last reprise
Blinded by a love that will no longer compromise
too afraid to see IT was something “I” fictionalize

I loathe the stubborn “i” that keeps you paralyze
The biases that push you to always scrutinize
The purest soul tendered with no disguise
The “i” in you that no longer sympathize

I’m afraid of the "i” who’s ready to finalize
Of all the voices that pushes me to soliloquize
Screaming, yelling, and telling me to finally realize
It was just make believe, one soul “i” over romanticize

No need playing the blame games or trying to ostracize
There’s always later, maybe time will help it stabilize
There is always a lifetime to try until tomorrow dies
Until there is no time and nothing else to revitalize

You....
You....
You...
You’re it
You need
You want
You’re better
You’re perfect
You’re the sun
You’re the star
You’re superior
You’re the queen
You can’t stand this
You can’t stand that
You’re right I’m wrong
Does it matter if at the end we are saying our goodbyes.

Truth

Maim the drums of Truth
And sear callous palms
To beat the congas of Lie:
Yet, Truth will make its sound

Tear; mutilate the psalms of Truth
And renew the muse of the bards
To publish the proverbs of Lie:
Still, Truth will be read

Exile; ostracize Truth to distant lands
And prepare the thorn-throne
To crown Lie the king:
Soon, Truth will be enthroned

Mask; conceal the visage of Truth
And array the countenance
To unveil the beauty of Lie:
With the veil, Truth will prevail

Imprison; confine that man called Truth
And give freedom-feathers
To that man called Lie to fly:
Surely, Truth will still soar

Mute; silence the chorus of Truth
And mobilise angelic voices
To sing the anthem of Lie aloud:
The music of Truth will endure

Lie may endure for a millenium
Truth resurrects in milliseconds

Premium Member Two Eagles

We have a pair of eagles who, from their nearby nest travel to a tall power pole upon which they like to rest.

We like to greet them when our paths cross…wondering how much they understand
as they soar across the heavens or perch high above the land.

I like to bring my binoculars in case we run across them high atop their nook…
so I can zero in on the two of them and get a closer look.

The founding fathers admired eagles for their freedom, their strength, their courage and they were indigenous to North America too…which is why the eagle has been a symbol of our country since 1782.

(Hmmmm…freedom, strength, courage and to North America indigenous and connected…seems to me we already had symbol our founding fathers would have been wise to have selected.)

I like to think our founding fathers hoped each generation would work to improve our freedoms…before they slipped into the past…so the next generation and the next and the next would have more freedoms than the last.

But that is never how it worked…freedom for everyone will never come into play…when those in power use their power to take freedoms away.

Here in Florida and many other states all across this land… laws are being passed to ostracize and oppress people…history and books are being banned…

Yes, a wave of evil is sweeping across the country
freedoms are being stolen…from you…and you…and me
which means when our paths cross with the eagles
this is what I see…

I see two eagles…two symbols of America
who from their perch are witnessing America’s freedoms dying…
and as I zero in for a closer look….
I see two eagles crying.

Unplugged 2

unplugged 2

form formed facilitating figurative
impressions, indicating illusory images
leaving lines lingering
lost loves looking lenient

mutually morphing mutated mild memories
yearning, yielding

still seeking superfluously some singular sensation
omitting old obsessions
until unanimously underlining
lust, loathing lost linear liabilities

withheld woes weaving worries
indirectly interfering, instilling indifference
this tame, transparently treacherous tale
haphazardly hides hate

horrified? horizons helpfully hum
after all, animosity always achieves
tremendously torrential transcendence
eliminating envisioned ephemeral

anonymity. ah, abusing amusing alliterations
notoriously nonsensical
don't deliberately deny disastrous declarations

greedily galvanized gorgeous glistening gaps
ostracize old obsessions only once

The Daily Report 03292011605pm

Time and time again, we see the power
Harnessed within the ever present wind.
Each spring, we receive a gift from this friend,
Delivering blankets of green powder.
Allergies are wakened by the hour,
Invigorated by pollinic blends,
Leaving behind trails of dust at each bend,
Yielding only to natural showers.
Right now, this invisible dust hovers
Everywhere that the wind wants to blow.
People, even those great nature lovers,
Ostracize themselves from this daily flow.
Rarely does it comfort what it covers,
Terrorizing people with that lime glow.

Premium Member Birding By Ear

The poem requires a mind
that finds meaning, even divination,
in language. Non-fiction,
up to academic standards, demands
evidence. Nothing less will do.
Most of us read fiction and this
needs a taste for action, motivation.

Lately, as have you, I have
thought about our war and its purpose,
motivation. But I have also closely
listened to the wood thrush, analyzed
its song like a tune by T.S. Monk
or J.S. Bach concerto. One belongs
to the loved ones who ostracize us, too.

A robin looks, hops, pecks, is never calm.
It is the flute-like tones, yes, but mostly
the patient, meditative clarity
of the thrush that enchants. One wants
to be that bird. How will we attain
calm clarity for the species *****sapiens?
Through the discipline of asking questions.

Mimics, woodpeckers, sing-songers, hawks,
chippers and trillers, whistlers, name-sayers,
loons, owls and a dove, high pitchers,
wood warblers and a word-warbling wren.
Unusual vocalizations.
What did the wood thrush sing
teaching its young thrush meanings?

Too much emotion is the commonest of mortals’ sins.
Peace has many faces,
the wood thrush in the canopy is one.
A word of praise here, an encouraging word there.
A wraith, a ghost against an impatient man,
verbose, unsure of the path, always longing.
Nothing satisfies like the thrush's song.

I'M Really Not That Bad

I’m Really Not That Bad

Another day, and still I sigh
This constant struggle makes me cry
Unkindness is the reason why
This battle’s all uphill

And for the ones who fail to see,
this pain that makes its home in me
YOU magnify the misery
by thinking what you will

You must admit, I’m just like you
I feel emotion as you do
Anger, hurt and sadness too,
and still you ostracize

If you could trade for just one day,
Your life for mine, I think you’d say
We are the same in many ways;
And friendship would arise

I plead with you to understand,
My disadvantages weren’t “planned”
I must go on the best I can,
But judgment makes me sad

If you’d invite me, I would stay
Include me in your game - I’ll play!
I think you’d find it's safe to say
I’m really not that bad!

Teenage Rejection

Glasses thick, bottle style
in classes social and other,
condemn the wearer young and sweet;
jailed not of her own choosing,
but for her birth place in societal realms.

Though she strives-tries-cries,
never is heard her lonely wail,
even through words well placed
in offices of the high and mighty
student council and miss jr high’s court of fools.

They see clearly her place
as they ostracize willingly her tender youth
and without thought of tomorrow’s sorrow
condemn her to the land of undesired carnage,
where she is devoured by teenage wolves.

She pleads, she screams her needs,
critical acceptance worlds away,
wanting only a friend sharing her cares,
getting only stares from foolish jesters
ignorant of love’s meaning true.

Asking why?? she is met: Blindsided
by a sinister thesis on teen angst
as unchanged as Newton's third law,
proven timeless through the awful reality
of the junior high drama.

Salvation

Saved from the pending destruction that will result in
an epidemic of chaos, bloodshed and tears.
Saved!

Saved from a lifetime of mindless searching that will result in
an unproductive and lack luster life.
Saved!

Saved from peer pressure that would have mold or shape me
and make me a replica.
Saved!

Saved from my foes or oppressors who wish to ostracize or terminate me
or rather rid the world of my existence.
Saved!

Saved from fear that would stifle and make me a loser
having unfulfilled dreams or ambitions
Saved!

Saved from my SELF--- consuming greed, riotous and under-minding living that would have resulted in ultimate displeasure when I look at my reflection in the mirror.
Saved!

Saved, saved, saved, praise God I'm saved....

Premium Member Love's Dance

Dance the tortuous path of love with me,
explore nuances of the different roads,
some snake upwards towards lofty thrills
others zigzagging downwards in despair.
Together though we can construe
a life exhilarating and true
as we wander together in wondrous ways
enjoy the beauty of a laudable life,
build a base to face the storms of love,
and like a sparkling mountain stream
face all the currents that cross our life.
Let us find comfort in each other's arms,
when grief crosses our meandering paths,
for the stream winds and turns
and a new page of life pleasantly begins
Let us laugh together at our mistakes
for in laughter, we find strength
and ostracize despair from our love.
